Great cinematography, great dialogue, well written themes, great focus on gameplay...some of the few things Kojima San would have given this franchise, but he needs about 5 plus years to actually complete the game and without publisher meddling.
Kojima, in my opinion, is one of gaming's greatest "auteurs" -- a term which comes from the French word for "author" and is typically used to describe film directors. More specifically, it is a term that usually describes directors that tend to make "films" and not "movies." Basically, any auteur has a unique and often unorthodox style that applies to imagery, sound, or even storytelling. However, auteurs do not always yield enjoyable works. They are almost always critically loved, but popularly panned.
Kojima has a style that is uniquely his own. He tells the stories that he wishes to tell. That being said, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was one best games that I have ever played, but it had the most nonsensical plots that I have ever seen.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the game, but I wouldn't want that in Mass Effect.
