As a writer Kojima is Tommy Wiseau level.
Literally everyone is a better writer than Hideo Kojima. He gets by on it solely because the standards for quality writing in the video game industry are abysmally low.
Wiseau level? Escalation much?

After replaying the older MG games like MGS2 i'm not so sure about this.
I really need to know if you're citing MGS2 as in support of "Kojima as writer," because it's one of the most mindbogglingly stupid things I've ever played or seen. I watched someone play through most of MGS3 (it seemed miles better, if still ridiculous), but otherwise, MGS2 was it for me with that series.
MGS1 was serviceable, and I recall comparing it favorably to a Tom Clancy book for some reason. But... I was 14, and I thought Tom Clancy was something to aspire to.

Past all the wackiness like Ocelot grafting Liquid's arm onto his body, crotch grabs or Vamp in general but it's not a bad story. It's basically a retelling of MGS1 but from the perspective of the PATRIOTS' newly minted pawn. It's one giant training mission to create the next Snake that Ocelot took advantage of in order to locate the AI.
"I did not hit Quiet! I did NOT! Oh, hi Snake."
slander.

...this post does nothing to validate the writing of MGS.
The Boss (the female Boss from MGS3) is one of my favorite video game characters of all time. But, no. Gawd no. I don't want Metal Gear Solid's level of crazy in my ME.
Wiseau level? Escalation much?
I've been known to turn up the hyperbole at times, but not in that post. Kojima's writing is literally Wiseau quality. He can't write dialogue, characters, or a coherent story. He just gets a pass because he works in the video game industry and the standards are sadly much lower than TV or film.
He is a good director though, I will give him that.

All you cited was MGSV as if it's the entire series.
It'd be terrible story wise. Kojima can direct a well made game but his writing while creative and dealing with cool themes is still ****. He's the type of guy that really needs someone to say no to his ideas once in a while.

To be fair, I played it when it came out like thirteen years ago, so maybe I'm not doing it justice or my memory is hazy. Weren't the founding fathers actually robots? Holograms? Robot holograms?
All you cited was MGSV as if it's the entire series.
Do you really want me to cite MGS IV? There's about 94 hours of terrible, unskippable cutscenes to pull dumb **** from...
Maybe we need to establish peoples criteria for good writing. To me Frank Herbert, Dan Simmons, John Scalzi, Robert Heinlein among science fiction authors are examples of good writers...and have crafted some of the finest books ever penned. I haven't encountered anything in gaming as fractionally as good. Maybe, I would consider The Last of Us as an example of good writing. Maybe.
I'm not even sure it's possible to have good writing as the VG industry stands. The writers likely have to make all sorts of compromises to accommodate all the different ideas being pushed by the artists and devs...or last minute changes or additions or cuts...any of which could seriously impact the coherency of the story line. And all this while (insert parent company) pressures to get the release to meet the quarterlies...even at the expense of damaging the brand long-term.

Dialogue i won't deny that it's average at it's best and god awful at it's worst, the characters are debatable. On one hand you got Ocelot, BB and Hal who grew during the course of story, while on the other hand you got MGS4 Raiden, and the B&B unit who are better off left forgotten. In terms of coherency the issue is the lore bloat as the series is almost 3 decades old while each title is out of order rather than following a linear narrative.
Seriously how do you guys do Kojima dirty like that. I'll be damned if Ride to Hell Retribution is considered better writing than Zone of The Enders and MG.

Let's not get crazy, there.
I'm actually not going to say Kojima's bad per se, and I think the games themselves are technically pretty masterful if no longer to my taste.
I think he's dumb, though. You can't account for taste, and I know I think some really dumb things are brilliant, but Kojima's dumb turns me right off.

If by terrible you mean excessively long sure, but them being unskippable is false since the Foxhound rank required 5 hrs or less of game time in which the cutscenes are also factored into.
This thread can be summed up as ''You don't like what I like? YOU'RE STUPID. HA GOTCHA, I'M SUCH AN EDGY PSEUDO-INTELLECTUAL'' Also implying Bioware doesn't write fan-servicey characters when you had Cullen and all that ''ride the bull'' crap that was going on in DA:I . LMAO. Quiet is obviously a fan-service character but discrediting all of Kojima's work because you didn't like it makes you look dumb.
That said Kojima's writing would not fit the tone that bioware has set previously for mass effect. I wouldn't be opposed to them going completely crazy with the writing and turning it into a parody of itself though, I find it hard to take mass effects writing seriously anyway. Although most fans of the series would probably be opposed to that idea.

The problem with Kojima is that he's overly preachy in terms of his themes like MGS2's perception of information theme, while he's better off telling than showing since the games GZ, and PP are redundant in their showing of BB transition as the antagonist of the original MG games.

Ironically that also sums up the part of the MGS fanbase that enjoys the story over the gameplay.

Man for me Metal Gear Solid 2 was one of the most thought provoking storylines I've experienced in a video game. I don't think any Metal Gear game I've played so far comes close.

Exaggeration much?
This. I find it hilarious how some "whine" about BW "pandering to SJW's or some sh!t" yet completely miss the fact that the game they oh so praise is also full of pandering.
All in all, all games do pander. Bioware just panders to all groups, not just only straight men. That's why i'd prefer their pandering over games like MGS or GTA, anyday everyday.
Meh, it depends on the context.
I say yes! Put Kojima in charge of every video game franchise BSN loves.
