For the love of element zero, please don't use cheesy stock sound effect discs that contain sounds we may have heard in movies or other games.
Also don't use sounds from Dragon Age, like the way the Banshee sound was taken from Mass Effect for use as the Terror's sound in Inquisition.
To be clear, of course re-using sound effects from previous Mass Effect games makes sense. But don't just throw in stock sounds from one of those cheap no royalty sound libraries that EVERYONE uses. It seriously breaks immersion.
If you have to use stock sound effects, MIX THEM. i.e. use several bear roars and mix them so they aren't immersion breaking by being recognizable.
Thank you!

Hmm... I dont understand anything about video game audio or any other entertainment audio for that matter. But Inquisition is actually the only game I have to play with headphones, cause the sound is so good to me that I cant have it wasted on the speakers. Doesnt sound cheesy or reused at all. In fact, Bioware's audio team records a lot of the sounds they use in games...
Depends on the sound. Certain sounds may have been used so many times it becomes what we identify for that effect. And using their own sound will only be confusing.
On the other hand that stock Sci-fi engine sound in the trailer just makes me think of transformers.

They use the Mass Effect Banshee sound in Inquisition for the "Terror" monsters. This was the worst offender. They also used the same "City background" noise in Mass Effect 1 and DA 2.
I disagree, and I want 100% more Wilhelm Screams in all future Bioware games.
lol

Agreed, certain sounds like a "door closing" is generic enough to go unnoticed. However many production and game companies cut massive corners by buying a stock sounds effect and don't bother modify any of them. Invariably a few monster sounds or environment sounds slip through.

You are asking for Bio to increase the cost of the game?
Creating original sound effects takes time, effort, resources = increase in the cost of the game.
Oh, please. I didn't ask that they create every sound effect from scratch, but simply cutting and pasting sounds from a stock collection or from another BW game is a problem. They need to do some processing on the sounds at the very least. This would be extremely minor to the total budget. And I say this as someone who has done sound work for games myself.

I'm not saying you're lying but do you have videos to prove this?

Lmao the Banshee sound was taken from Mass Effect I knew I wasn't hearing things and the Terror's sound in Inquisition wow and the terrors are almost copycat banshees to lol smh.
I feel really bad for BioWare sometimes. This fan base is........... I don't think the term "whiny" really does it justice.
The fan base is just all...
I don't know what your problem is. I have a specific concern I am raising respectfully. BW does amazing work overall, look at how many of their games I own.
People are way too quick to jump on anyone expressing anything remotely negative here. You should consider turning the mirror on your own whining.
Any parts they use generic music or reuse music from other games.
You can find most of this on Youtube but it is easier for me to just say them than go hunting for videos. Also, not so much music (although they reused some of that too, but I don't mind that as much). Also, the Banshee sound reuse is specifically mentioned by other posts on these forums.
Here are a few:
Dragon age Inquisition Terror = Mass Effect 3 Banshee (A good place to hear this in Inquisition is the Fallow Mire)
Mass Effect 1 background city background sound where you dock by the Normandy = Background city sound in DA2 (lowtown I think). This sound has "horns" intermittently blowing in the background.
Lake Calenhad docks music reused from DA:O in 2
Leliana's Song battle music reused in DA:2
Here's a video for the Banshee at least, it is a bit off in the background though:

Well, I can't see them changing the sound effects of the various weapons, for one... new weapons will be accompanied by new sounds effects.
Otherwise, What do you mean by processing on the sounds? DAI, has some excellent wind blowing sounds... so does ME3MP. No need to change that.

What specific sound(s) breaks your immersions?
Oh, I agree, generic sounds are fine. Wind blowing, weapon fire, doors opening and closing etc are almost always fine. I am mostly talking about distinctive sounds.
For instance if (hypothetically) they used the sound of the Despair Demon from DA:I in ME:A, that would break immersion
Here are a few I can think of off the top of my head:
The background city noise in ME1 (used in at least mutiple DA games also)
The Banshee sound (used in DA:I)
The Wilhelm scream (sorry)
There are a few sparking / explosion sounds that has been used since early scifi days (like Star Trek: TNG or earlier, not 100% sure where/if this is used in ME though)
There is a "roar" that has been way overused in movies and video games. I first heard it in Ultima Online. (Not sure if this was used in any ME games)
Screams and creatures and certain other distinctive sounds are really what I mean.
Regarding what I mean by processing, I am referring to applying effects and overlaying several sounds, time stretching. Basically modifying the sound enough so it isnt obviously the same sound.
