I kind of understand Solas a bit when I think of it this way

I just got some idea about how Solas think about modern Thedas, don't know if anyone bring it up before.
And I'm sorry if my language is confusing because I'm not a native speaker.

We're living in the world without magic but if we substitute it with electric power. I think it makes some sense for what Solas is planning to do.

IRL, we don't use magic. Everyone knows that but we use something else to facilitate our life.
And that is electric power. Most of us use it almost all the time in everyday life.
Our gadgets like cars, mobiles, computers and so on need electric power. Not to mention those facilities we use for
more essential aspect of living like oven, stove or refrigerator.
Even our clothes or medicine are produced by machine generated by electric power.
Our lives depend on it so much.

If there is a huge nuke war in the future. A war that might wipe out mankind from earth.
And the only way to stop it is to shut off all the electric power. Some of us might decide to do that and go hibernation.

Then you wake up and the world turn into a post-apocalyptic state and human evolve backward (if that's possible at all) or other races conquer the planet instead (like in planet of the apes or so) Human aren't as intelligent as once was and/or they are slaves.

You live there and eventually make friend and accept other races as people but you still want your world back.

And that might be why he romance only Lavellan.
(This maybe a bit over exaggerate since humans look familiar to elves more than apes to humans)

I don't think what he's going to do is right but I kind of understand him, maybe.

Off topic - His tarot cards might foretell his future. Since his romanced card is the hierophant instead of the tower I have some hope for Solavellan.

That's.....actually an interesting way to think about it.

That's vastly overstating Solas' position though.  If we carry your line of thought through to conclusion, Solas wants to nuke a nuclear wasteland to bring back the world before the nukes. Sounds legit.

He lost his people, his civilization.  I get it.  That's sad.  But he wants to go destroy countless civilizations and kill EVERYONE - literally everyone - to bring back ONE civilization, one he caused the destruction of. A civilization, if we're being honest, was not all that great to begin with.  Life in the Dragon Age universe has always been crappy for someone. And it's been said that Mythal is the best of the Elven Pantheon, but last I checked, Flemeth isn't exactly a shining example of goodness. And he wants to bring those individuals back?  That is an extremely worrying thought.

If he wants a better life for elves, he could start with doing what he can in the world he now lives in.  Uplifting the Dalish and City Elves.  He has the power to do so now.  He can lead them into a better future, because despite what he wants to believe, they are his people.  Fen'Harel has helped the elves in the past.  He could easily do it again.  I'd even support an elven rebellion instead of complete destruction of the entire Dragon Age universe.

Rant over. I know you said you don't think what he is doing is right, just thought I would add a little extra to that.  Solas/Fen'Harel is doing what he thinks is best, but as a certain paleontologist once said, "Some of the worst things imaginable have been done with the best intentions."

The only thing I'd add is that the awful world you wake up in is somehow ALL YOUR FAULT.

I'd add that the people in this new world are missing several senses like eyesight and also only live to be a few years old!

I think it has to do with nostalgia - Solas wants to bring back the world as it used to be before the elven gods started getting sticks in their butts. But yeah that does overlook the more awful parts.

Flemeth though, I think it's more Flemeth as herself rather than Mythal possessing her; she simply carries the goddess' soul inside her and uses its powers, I believe.

But yeah I agree with your thoughts on the elves - Why not assist them? He apparently tried a few times but was turned down, so he has been bearing a stick in his butt about that ever since? How mercurial. Did he give up due to the culture clash, as well?
