Not sure if it was mentioned, but if your build barely auto-attacks and usually uses abilities, mauls are good, since ability damage are based off base weapon damage.

Do they have ANY discernible advantage over Greatswords and Battle Axes? I rolled up a dwarven 2hander and want to use mauls just for the appearance sake but they have no AOE and do not seem to do more damage. Any thoughts?
I actually made a thread about this a week ago (buried by now) which had a good discussion of it.
The conclusion (for me anyway) was that mauls tend to have higher damage when they're found weapons, but if you craft weapons of the same tier, mauls have lower DPS for the same damage and lack AoE, so you're always better off with a greataxe/sword. The conclusion for others was that it doesn't make enough of a difference to matter, and a number of the 2H attacks are automatically AoE anyway, so just go with whatever you like, but I'm a bit more numbers-conscious...

But I do not care for the appearance of mauls back in DAO, and the thought of the head of the weapon smacking into the spine still makes me wince to this day.
