Should there be roles in Multiplayer?

I know this isn't a MMO but i can't help but think this might serve a purpose in ME:A and future ME Games.

Classes are in fact one and only one aspect of it in my opinion, they generally only effect playstyle in the since what fits your "Power Fantasy" do you see yourself as a huge gun wielding badass? then you'll likely play Soldier. If Space Magic and the fantasy there in is more your style then Adept is probably going to be your choice.

However, none of the classes really fit the typical MMO roles, and while Multiplayer was certainly doable without roles, some classes kind of worked as shoe ins for filling the niche of a role.

Geth Juggernaut could put up shields to protect allies, and basically steal threat from players and sustain heavy damage longer than most other classes, this made him the ideal Tank in any match.

The Geth Infiltrator with the right upgrades and a piranha was a terror and could sweep most rounds by themselves within minutes, this was the obvious DPS.

The N7 Engineer with its supply device could help protect allies and regenerate shields, improve weapon damage, and gave more grenades over time, making it a ideal support/healer type class.

So idea of roles isn't necessarily out of the question in the game, but rather should it be categorized as such? Should it be a design focus when working on the game and its multiplayer aspect from scratch? Should every class have kits or builds where they can fill out 1 or 2 of these roles?

If encounters were based around needing certain roles filled in order to likely survive would this increase of decrease your enjoyment in comparison to ME3 multiplayer?

I like the idea of the player having the choice on how to build a class in at least two ways.  A couple examples might be the volus in memp and the keeper in DAMP.  You can build them and spec them as a near support only class and play them in that roll however you can also build a hybrid support/offense or actually go mostly offense.

The roll of the character is often pretty apparent the 1st few times you play them and see their ability trees.

If Bioware are going to do multiplayer then I would like to seem them do something different from what they did last time, I would like to see something that actually complements and ties into the single player portion of the game and I would like to see something more fun to play than "hold off the waves of enemies".

Buuuuuuuuuuuut with how profitable multiplayer was for them last time and with how many people actually drop cash on item boxes for the chance at random loot I can't see them changing it from what they had last time, I personally wont play it but I can't stop others from doing so.

I think classes are a safe bet, the class based design as used by battlefield and team fortress 2 make the game enjoyable for people who are not good at multiplayer gaming by including support roles involving stuff like driving, flying, building and capturing, which means more people want the game. Games like Counterstrike are off limits if you're not good at it.

Don't want roles past how classes worked in me3mp. When roles are solidified into a system level and mission design are shaped in ways to enforce it. I don't want LfHealer crap in the lobby.
