ME:A is in space, not on the ground; it needs no grounded ending.

Picture the stork.

leylek.jpg

In so many fables, the stork brings babies to worthy mothers, worthy fathers. Does the stork ground itself? Not for long, at any rate. And neither does Mass Effect: Andromeda. Indeed, it could be said that this next great chapter in the Mass Effect saga is like a stork -- delivering us a newborn tale if we are worthy to receive it.

Each ending in the original trilogy is grounding. Each ending is definitive. 'Tis not fair to say, "oh, Andromeda requires an anchor." 'Twas an anchor in Dragon Age: Inquisition; that time has passed. What Andromeda needs is a fresh start, one which none of the four endings can provide. It needs a stork, and fans worthy to receive one.

Fly with the stork, fly with it to the Helios Cluster, in the Andromeda Galaxy. Fly there unchained, untethered by circumstance. Fly there and begin your journeys anew, free from destruction, control, synthesis and refusal.

Sequels are anchored to previous stories whether the writers or audience likes it or not. We don't have a choice. Nobody likes the ending of ME 3. The players depise it. EA despises it. I'm sure BioWare thoroughly despises it by now. We all wish we didn't have to deal with this crap, but all of us do.

Don't get technical with me, Mister! This topic is far too silly for your logic!

So, by having not mentioned grounding, I win by default?

Yours was a difficult topic to reconcile with, I admit. You're on higher ground by default, I'd say.

I still hope they have a version of the Dragon Age Keep for MEA, though. I'd like at least some aspects of my trilogy world state to be carried over, even if they're only mentioned in passing or included in codex entires.

Nobody likes the ending of ME 3.

Well that's wrong.

The players depise it.

So's that.

EA despises it.  I'm sure BioWare thoroughly despises it by now.

I was going to ask for a source, but considering how wrong you were with the previous two statements, I don't think it's worth it.

I kind of like the ending. Endings don't have to be triumphant.

If Shepard had been my character, I would demand more agency. But as a largely non-interactive story, ME doesn't need that.

Feels like it's high time for me to once again lay claim to the phrase "Mass Relay" for such a potential program. Get it? 'Cause like, it's like a Mass Relay, like in the games, right? And it... relays your save data so that...

...

...I swear, I'm the only person who thinks this is clever. ._.

This implies that the studio won't make the same mistake.

That's a good thing.

...okay, then, Jeff. We will fly, and all that.

Tbh, for the most part I'm totally cool with that. Come on, let's just go already. Hoping to fall in love again. New things. New dynamics. New situations.

However, there are times when I am still wistful. There are times when I really wished I could have seen how the MW I'd known and loved was shaped by these apocalyptic events. I could see so many good stories in that setting. Stories that had nothing to do with galactic level sacrifices and all that. Rather just dealing with a very turbulent time. Galactic infrastructure destroyed. Warlords. All kinds of crime and difficult situations.

Heck, even Earth--didn't the Reapers destroy all the nuke silos?--the fallout from that alone must have been overwhelming. (Hey, maybe that's why we have to go and find a new home planet.)

But hey, okay. I'm willing to see. Give it a chance. Hoping for cool new experiences, and hoping to fall in love again.

Soooo, okay, "Magical time travel" it is. "Go with it."

Not every player hated it. Perhaps original, but I never seen the original (except on YouTube), just the extended. I actually liked the destroy and control choices. because they're the two I'd choose if I had to make that choice for real.

Still my favorite film, that.

Loved your post. I echo your sentiments to a tee -- especially when they're boiled down to these two key points. I think many of us know exactly how you feel.

I didn't mind the ending. Original or extended one.

I don't recall anyone at EA stating they hated it though, or Bioware. I read Bioware's founders were proud of the team and they stood by what they did in it. Regardless of whether people were displeased with the ending.

Only thing EA said was that the ending thing was all Bioware, without any EA intervention.
