Remember guys we still have one of the Forbidden Ones unaccounted for, the Formless One. He/she/it will probably show up in Tevinter and it's appearance will be different for each protagonist. One time it might be a male desire demon if you like men, or female if you like women. It might mirror the person you are trying to romance, especially awkward if they're in the party at the time.

Desire demons don't appear as what you want. They appear as they are, and OFFER
what you want.

I mean, if you wanted muffins, do you think a desire demon would appear as a giant talking muffin?

Now THAT would be epic! :D :D

All I know is that feminists wouldn't care if the Desire demons were semi naked males.

And if you're pansexual, the desire demon turns into cookware.

Seriously though, I think there should be desire demons that change appearance based on what sexual preference you pick for your character at the beginning of the game.

Also, some desire demons should approach you as being non-sexual but rather adorned with riches, or as knights/mages offering power, or perhaps even as a widow or orphan if your protag's desire is to help the needy. They should be trickier and more deceptive. Like the one who took the templar in the Circle Tower. It appeared to him as a family.

As a feminist, I want to see as few semi-naked males as possible, thanks.

Wouldn't that depend on the feminist? Straight ones might enjoy looking at scantily clad men, but I can see why lesbians might not be interested. I can see why *anyone* might not be interested in looking at a semi-naked demon of any gender. It's ridiculous.

Gotta say it, though. I really liked the fact that Imshael was the only desire demon (I know, I know, Choice Spirit) in the game. I am heartily sick of self-fondling purple women. Succubi are trite, and I'm glad they've gotten away from the cliche. Imshael, on the other hand, was interesting. His inclusion took the focus off "Oooh, boobies!" and put it where it belonged: on the choices that were offered. As others have said, desire demons aren't really about the sex. They're about power, and a clothed figure can get that point across better than someone's adolescent purple fantasy.

As others have said, desire demons aren't really about the sex.

I do so agree with the bolded excerpt.

While I very much like the design in itself, I feel it misrepresent what the desire demon is supposed to be because it emphasizes a sexual desire in its appearance. That's not to say that is all there is to its design since it's adornment of golden jewelry can signify wealth as in a desire for wealth and its body signifies a desire of or for beauty. The sexual aspect, however, ends up dominating the design, in my opinion, especially when coupled with the caress animation.

In a majority of quest-related encounters the desire demons have sought victims whose desires were almost always anything but a sexual desire: The templar wanted a loving family, Connor wanted his father alive and well, Amalia wanted a friend, Lady Harimann wanted power, Feynriel wanted acceptance, Isabella wanted a ship, Aveline wanted her husband Wesley and Quentin wanted his wife.

This is why I prefer a shapeshifting approach to the desire demons especially because that feels like it plays more into their lore image of being subtle and of the more clever lot of demons.

As a note: It can be argued that Isabella's had a sexual aspect to it but her betrayal seemed mostly influenced by the promise of a ship as indicated by her somewhat infamous quip: "I like big boats, I cannot lie."

I have further evidence regarding the appearance of Desire Demons. This regards the Forbidden One, Xebenkeck from DA2.

  • Tarohne refers to Xebenkeck as male in her book. Yet she manifests in the traditional feminine desire demon form and ancient elves referred to her as female.

From the DA wiki. This shows that they alter their appearance depending on who views or summons them.

So looking forward to meeting the last of the the Four, the Formless One, most likely female, as Gaxkang was male, Xebenkeck female and Imshael male.

Only if they become mute.

Were they meant to sound sexy? Because they didn't, they really didn't. They always sounded like you'd just woken them from a deep sleep and they were too tired to string a sentence together whilst also suffering from a cold.

Eugh.

Yeah, it wouldn't be a big issue to me exactly because men aren't usually sexualized in our culture like women are. Honestly, women are sexualized to the point that you've got people arguing in this very thread that women are a generic representation of desire! If that's not a telling statement of how women are looked at I don't know what is.

Despite all of those issues though, if the Desire Demons were depicted as half naked men, I'd be sympathetic to the complaints of all the men that would flood this forum with duplicate threads asking for a female Desire Demon. I'd laugh at them a bit and point out that, 'well now you know how I feel in 99% of games that don't take my perspective into account' but I'd still support them. But, that's just me and I'm probably more sympathetic than you towards that request because I know that it sucks when your perspective is routinely ignored. I suspect you don't have this perspective as you are probably part of the crowd that is catered to.

I was a big fan of the Sloth demons in Origins, and it sucks that DAI lacked them. Lust ones were cool too - as mention mainly due to the fact that you get to talk your way out of a fight and what-not. Inquisition demons for the most part were boring as shite.

I'm all for bringing back Sloth and Lust demons, and I'd like to see conversations with demons make a return too - especially in Tevinter.

True in many cases but not all. The one during Night terrors in DA2 does change herself into  100% Wesley-look alike in order to seduce Aveline and also into Feynriels father in order to fool him. Similarily Dorian talks about meeting a male-looking Desire demon and that enthralled templar in DAO clearly perceives the Desire demon as his wife.

Only if it would let me eat it otherwise it would just be taunting me by appearing as a delicious giant muffin when I was hungry.

I would like a demon companion in DA4, but Pride would probably work better than Desire. Fanservice aside, it would be interesting to explore how a demon interacts with the world, particularly in Tevinter where bound demons are more common.

I would also like an Awakened darkspawn companion. Been waiting for that since Awakening.

But wouldn't there demon form always be the succubus type we have now? I can understand it shapeshifting when outside of the fade if it wanted to mask its true form and play to your desire but once it fights its true form would still be what we have now. Fear demons don't change to represent your fear in battle. Just there fearlings they fight in there true form.

Yeah I assume their default appearance is always the succubus because they see the lust of men and how easy it is to manipulate them if you are sexy. If they are dealing with someone not interested in that then they change.

I like the fact their default is an attractive/monstrous succubus, that should not change.

The only thing that would be awesome would be a male/female toggle based on your pc's love interest, but if that is too much work, just the female form would be enough.

How do you know the fear demons form is actually the dude with the spider legs from their back? It could very well be that the Inquisitor just perceives them as such because s/he is afraid of spiders. I say if the way weaker fearling can do it so can their way stronger versions.

No, I wasn't referring to sexual attraction.

I meant that they only make a big fuss about it when there is a woman involved.

Yes I would love to have them back in the next game and as a companion! Imagine playing a desire demon as a succubus futanari (of those who don't know what a futanari is look it up on Google or just put Dragon Age Futa NSFW viewer discretion is advised and 18+ only) hunting sexy female mages and non-mage females alike and make love sweet love to them. Think of the possibilities!

It bothers me that they actually care about feminist whining.

Every reference to desire demons has described them as male ever since.

Uhm..... no.

Unless by every reference you mean two times. Once by Dorian and once in reference to Imshael (which is probably a wrong classification anyways).

In codex entries they are still mostly refered to as female.

Like the codex entries in the haunted manison in the Emerald graves where the mage-girl in her diaries refers to her "new friend" as she. Or that one about a young man "saving" a "girl" from a rift which kind of ended with him being slaughtered by said "girl". Also there is that poem about a spirit of love (described as beautiful women) being summoned repeatedly and being ultimately corrupted into a desire demon and sinking her new claws into her lover.

Not really. Tresspasser codex entries refer to her as, well....  "her"  (http://dragonage.wik..._Forbidden_Ones)and she has a slightly altered standard-Succubus-look. Only Tharone I think refers to her as male in her forbidden books.

That being said the Forbidden ones are all described as very capable shapeshifters so she might have appeared as male from time to time. Also like Imshael I'm not entirely certain wether or not she actually falls under the classification of an simple Desire demon.

And this codex refers to it has a him. So two different codexs two different genders. in reality though they all have no gender probably just a preferred human form and since xebenkeck hasn't shown its human form him or her is neither right or wrong
