I just don't see where the fans are getting this from. It is an accusation made by the Inquisitor, which Solas doesn't actually confirm or agree with.

You would expect someone with that description to be often dismissive of other people's opinion and generally indifferent to everything surrounding him.

But take your time to go through his party banter in the wiki. Solas is genuinely interested in what others have to say and even concedes on a few points.

In the short time he's been back from his slumber, he immediately sympathised with the plight of mages. He also despises slavery in Tevinter and has tried to help the Dalish before though they aren't his people.

(I'd sooner believe Vivienne doesn't think non-Orlesians are real people, ha ha.)

Don't get me wrong, I'd never condone his current plan. But to say he sees everyone who isn't an ancient elf as no more than just things already is a stretch.

Must be an approval thing. The response I saw was "It's my fault for creating the Veil".

He has a low opinion on humanity.

Sure, he talks about Cassandra in a fair light and the Inquisitor as well, but it is because of what they do, not what they are.

If you are just another elf or human, he won't have very high opinion of either, but a lower opinion on one who is human.

This can be seen in his needlessly racist remark about humans if one is romancing Sera.

It's good that the Inquisitor can help change Solas' outlook on people, as one can see through the course of the game. At first, the Inquisitor was a means to an end, but later grew to possibly be a friend to Solas, which gives Solas conflict with the mission he gave himself after waking to a world that seems broken to him.

Cole also suggests it if you finish his romance arc.  "She's real and that means everyone could be real", implying that he doesn't acknowledge most people as "real".  There's also his analogy to the idea that post-Veil individuals are like Tranquil, and while you could argue the humanity of a Tranquil (in fact, that particular analogy makes me really wish there could have been some reaction between him and Minaeve, now that I think about it), it doesn't change that they get referred to at times (even potentially by the player characters) as not being "real" people.

I have also seen a scene on You Tube where he talks to an elven Inquisitor who is basically hostile to him the moment they meet.

"I guess you have questions."

"When have I ever wanted to listen to you?"

He then gives the short version of what he has done, the motivations for his actions and the likely results.   It is perfectly clear from that conversation that he doesn't regard anyone but the ancient elves like Abelas as true People and that if his plan succeeds then everyone else is likely to die.    He seems to have this odd idea that if he gives the rest of creation a few years of pleasant living, then that makes up for what he is going to do to them.   Hence his desire to help free the mages, rail against the slavery of Tevinter and the Qun, etc.    Finally, as he removes the mark through severing the arm, he says he is doing this because without the Inquisitor there will just be more chaos and suffering, which he wants to avoid because of this idea that giving the population a few years of peace makes him less of a monster.    When he tells you to enjoy what time you have left he is not referring to the after effects of the mark, which has been removed with your arm, but the few years he has given you before he tears down the Veil.

The reason why the definition of "real" is important to him is that previously he considered his actions okay because nobody but his ancient elves were "real people".    The Dalish says that the ancient elves regarded the humans as no more than vermin, in order words animals, and since modern elves are little different to humans with pointed ears, they are now considered in the same light.   Abelas makes that clear in no uncertain terms.    Solas has been given reason to doubt, having spent time with them but chooses to ignore the evidence as it would conflict with his grand plan.   Hence if he is in a romance with you, he initially was going to tell the truth and possibly alter his plan, but then steels himself against it to remain true to his agenda.    I think the most horrific thing he says is "I will never forget you" as if that is somehow consolation to her for what he is going to do to her, her friends and (if still alive) her clan family, not to mention everyone else.
