I think the blocking ability of the spearman is a tad overdone. They can block attacks from the back without turning around. They can block all three steps of Assara's Leap, even if I am flanking. They can block the whole Baoqun Barrage. They can block the invisible blast from Itwa-Adam Explosion, even the Blizzard part of it. Just by wriggling their wrist.

Why? Who thought it is a good idea? Or is it because the SP team hard-coded the blocking like the Venatori Zealot and the MP team can't change it?

They can sunder you and is invincible at range and can knockdown in melee. With, again, inflated health. Not a fan of the 100% Sunder on each spear either.

Please L2P stop asking for nerf. If you change attack type or flank them they don't block those.

According to this thread they only block if they are not attacking but it feels like they are not attacking most of the time . If you are using a bow/staff and don't have an AOE skill you better attack someone else. My auto-attacks get blocked in most cases (I still aa them, I'm stubborn  :D).

explosive shot with bow, chainlightning/winters grasp/immolate with staff, devour/payback strike/mighty blow anything that changes the attack vector

And why is it that guys with shields still take damage when they block (granted reduced but still damage) but they can block an AOE like power chord with a spear and take 0 damage?

CremeDelight, what are you promotions and what difficulties do you play?

You guys who are quick to judge peoples playing skills should ask questions like this before you harrass them.

I've noticed that the spearmen can block all of Izzy's crossbow attacks, took me a little by surprise, but I just got in & took them down, it was a shock, but yeah, nice tactic to overcome really, keeps it fresh, keeps players on their toes as not to get sloppy.

Just keep in mind you'll need to be more attentive & creative with the Qunari.

Just My opinion

I dont know what classes you guys are bringing to a qunari fight but I wouldn't suggest a staff, a sword is much better option...

If only there were some way to know what faction you were facing before you started a game ;)

Just curious, what attacks can reliably get past their blocking while flanking? When using Stealth + Twin Fangs, occasionally it still get blocked despite the guy not turning around. Also, does Assara's Leap not count as flanking if you hit them with the Flow step from behind?

It is really confusing for me, because the Qunari Defender can't block if I flank them, or in case of Barrage if the projectiles decide to hit them in the back. But when I try to attack the Spearman with the Baoqun Barrage, they block all the projectiles from all angles.

The only thing they haven't blocked so far is Elemental Mines, as far as I see.

Mostly been playing a duelest today, so this is all I can tell you.

Flashing Steel gets them, so does flank attack.

Also from previous goes I remember the Power Chord from the Virtuoso is effective.

Firestorm from the Ele.

That's all I can tell you unfortunately, hope it helps a little

they block just about anything if they aren't attacking, if you stop attacking they start then it resets and you can attack or attack via ability, mighty blow/assara's leap type don't get blocked, you just need to change up what your doing and  add variations or move around the battle field more actively. you can even change target and come back and they don't block.

i have seen them block power cord but if you move around and power cord from the side or back, then it works and then the front works again. Whatever you do need variations instead of standing in front and spamming same attacks

The problem with a game like this is that people need to buy into the whole fantasy aspect to begin with. When it becomes too ridiculous many people find it absurd and the whole fantasy crumbles.

For a lot of people, a basic unit that can block energy barrages and AOE spells with ... a spear (or sword), find it borderlining the absurd.

The Jedi can do it.

A Jedi is not a basic unit... they are SPECIAL !!

Luke explained that this is either turn on or off switch. Why they programmed it that way is way too late, it is what it is

I have to say, it caught me off guard when I used Hidden Blades while stealthed from behind the first one I saw, and it blocked it.  I've gotten used to them now, but that was a nasty surprise!

It feel quite different from the regular swordsman though. I guess they use the same kind of invincibility frame, but the Qunari's animation and long weapon allow him to block a wider area (the whole character) and for a longer duration.

i think the blocking animation is funny as hell. They make it look so effortless.

I'd admire them more if they make a more dramatic show of it or produce forcefield instead of wriggling their wrist. Just watching them blocking Baoqun Barrage from several Hissera makes me feel like having Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Thanks, I hadn't noticed as I keep moving while playing Zither.
