Why can't we just...join Solas?

I get what people mean by asking this question, and it's not just a "suicidal Lavellan" thing. Who here remembers being able to go all Dark Side in KotOR? Yeah, same thing. Some people want to see it, want to experience what the game will show that way. Just like people would complain that their Shepard couldn't join Cerberus. I mean, why the hell would you? But if that's how a particular character would roll, it's a fair thing to ask.

Meanwhile Solas doesn't even want to be doing what he appears to believe he should, so why would he bring anyone else along for that? He tells you as much. And if there's a chance to have the Inquisitor show up in another game to deal with Solas, either with redemption or force, they couldn't have the chance that any one in particular would run off with him.

It's one thing to want to join Cerberus or turn to the Dark Side, it's another entirely to wish to properly join The Opposition and turn the entire plot of the story around into a "conquer/destroy the setting" game.  Even turning to the Dark Side you still stop the bad guy.... admittedly, just to pretty much replace him, but still.

Ummm... no... Solas includes you in the nonpeople category. So if you could join him you'd basically just get used and discarded(again) and probably die when the world ends. Smart move.

Precisely what I would want to. Story is full os martyrs that die for a better world. Thedas too, like the Hero of Ferelden, possibly, or Andraste.

That'd be an awesome twist, wouldn't it? "I want to join you, Dread Wolf!" ... and then proceed to overthrow him and take his place as divine being. Of some sort.

But I still get why people ask the question. And if there wasn't a possibility we could see the Inquisitor in the future, they could have had the choice to join the opposition after all. I think it leads to a more interesting story in the future that we can't, but I guess we'll have to wait a few years to see if that's true.

"I just saved the world from a force that wanted to change it at the cost of everyone who lives currently"

"Great, that's done, now it's time to change the world at the cost of everyone who lives in it currently"

The same reason why you have:

 - Divine Victoria

 - both, Circle and College

 - both, Ferelden and Orlais hating you

 - Qunari attacking Tevinter

 - and Gaspard on the throne :P

at the end of every playthrough.

And the reason is something about the same world state for possible future DA games.

Gaspard on the throne was a bug. Seeing as it happens if he's dead.

I can't see how Solas is bringing back a better world.  He wants to bring back a ridiculously decadent civilization ruled by tyrannical 'god' aholes that enslaved a large portion of their people.

Even if Lavellan or any other elf survived Solas' 'Veil-be-gone' extravaganza they'd just end up as slaves in this new world.

It's confirmed to only happen if all three are cooperating or Briala and Celene reconcile.

Oh it's a bug, but the bug only happens in those two outcomes. If Celene is ruling alone the bug does not appear.

We can't join him because there's literally nothing good about it.

Worst case scenario, everyone dies and a pack of psychotic jack-asses claim the world as theirs.

Best case scenario, everyone lives but will be under the rule of  a pack of psychotic jack-asses.

You just can't win.

My own assumption is:

he knows the inquis is too attached to the world as it is now, has too many friends and loved ones to really go through with his plan along side him. Solas is effectively going to kill everyone and can see that the inquisitor would not be able to do such an injustice to THEIR people.
Solas can be your inquis' lover or friend - and in this case I feel he has too many feels for the inquis to put her/him through such turmoil. The inquisi has done so much to save thedas, why would he then just take the inquis along to destroy it.
As for bioware, I think they have plans anyway. It would cause complications for some people to go with Solas and some people to play that they didn't.

Because of plot reasons. I have a feeling that the scenario is going to be fairly complex and that it won't be a zero sum situation. Perhaps those who do still have somewhat of a connection to the Fade - like mages - will have a higher chance of survival if the Veil is torn down again. There's a lot that they still need to explain regarding Solas' plans.

My Lavellan romanced him but her clan and friends would always come first before a lover, and by trying to redeem him, she's saving the man shes loves, not encouraging him to continue on his path of death and destruction.

One thing that would have been hilarious would have been if you could only get the option to join him if you had no friends, your clan was dead and you were a tyrant. It would end with a Game Over screen.

That part is so frustrating! I always think Josie is the best option until I read the choices closely. You can see the subtle hints that you are heading down the wrong path each time you get a continuation mission.

And why would a Dalish inquisitor want to join something they won't even live to see?

Who said they won't? Solas's plan is for the elves to ascend, not die. 'Destroying your world' probably means the dangers of the Fade fusing suddenly with the real world, demons and such, which Solas's faction will be ready for.

Same reason you couldn't join Corypheus, whose plans were essentially similar but less villainous since his plan was to enslave everyone, not kill them.

No. Corypheus's future looks like Redcliffe. Solas's future looks like the Crossroads. Their goals might intersect a bit, but their visions are wildly different. With Corypheus, everyone but Corypheus loses. With Solas, the elves win, and Lavellan will also be a beneficiary.

Well, he did strongly imply that the Dalish and city elves would not be immune or resistant to the effects of tearing down the veil, which includes our dear lavellan inquisitor too. So she'd probably be against that. The only way it could work is if the writers had Solas say that the modern elves, not just the ancients, would also be positively affected by his plan. Would've added more to the grey morality that Bioware has lately been obsessed with, instead of making it relatively black and white.

Although you don't get to cement it as a choice, there's a line Lavellan could say to Solas, "You know I'd give my life to restore the People'. I don't think Lavellan would have cared that he/she'll be a casualty. And I suspect that holds true for most elves who'd go to join Solas as well.
