You have to get your theories from somewhere. Where are you getting your theories from? Of course elves separated from the Fade are not his people. That's why he wants to reconnect the elves to the Fade, to restore his people. Just like he says he wants to. How does any other theory make more sense than this one?

We are discussing why he might be luring modern elves to him. If not to save them because they are not of his kind, what else could he use them for? What could help him gain entrance to the Fade?

He says he does not use it... so now people say he will use it. When he doesn't use it. Seems legit. He doesn't use it to help Cole or to defeat Coryphepants. But now he'll use it because reasons.

You might want to step back a bit and stand down. The whole point of theories is coming up with stuff to try and fit puzzle pieces together. Some of it is silly or insane and can be discarded, but discussing what might be does not need a fully tested and proven hypothesis for people to put it forth. Four years is a long wait until the next game, and people will try and fill some of the questions they have until then. Foaming at the mouth in rabid defense is useless and unnecessary.

I don't remember loads of elves being sacrificed to breach the Veil, Cory keeps using the elven artifact to rip holes in the sky.

The first time.  (spoilered for size)

Asking people for reasons for their theories is hardly foaming at the mouth.

How do you think the seven magisters go to the black city? They did a mass ritual which required elven blood.

Just because they took a brute force approach doesn't mean Solas is going too.

Seriously, we have people claiming things like Solas is actually Dirthamen/Falon'Din as well as Fen'Harell or that Sera is actually a vessel for Andruil. People theorize that Morrigan is Maric's daughter after a night he spent with Flemeth, which makes the Dark Ritual really funky if you have Alistair do the deed. And they do it with less evidence than the casual coincidence that the last time a ton of elves were brought together it was for blood sacrifice. I think there's room for all of this here, as insane as any of it sounds.

So Cory uses blood magic and the Tevinter magisters use blood magic. Doesn't really change my point about Solas, in that he doesn't practice it, doesn't use it, not even to help out spirits like Cole. He's a powerful, resourceful mage who has found other ways to get what he wants done. That's his history, that's what he says and what he puts into practice.

And nobody is stopping them. Still, part of discussing them is asking for where in the story these theories could come from. That's all I'm doing. Why is that a problem for you?

So if he had no more artifacts, no more ways to manipulate the Veil to pass through it, and he had to tear it down, he would not do the worst thing possible? I love the guy but if he is wiling to kill everyone to regain the world he knew, what stops him from doing this? When I say it's the last thing he would do, I mean last. This is if everything else fails, including the Eluvians.

It's not a problem for me, dear.  I really hope you are correct that Solas is the man you think he is.  :)

I just wanted to make sure that you were aware of all the connections to blood magic there are in his situation.

Except this doesn't explain the coincidence. 1.) Solas says he's going to restore his people. 2.) The mass exodus of the elves upon this announcement. Can you explain away this coincidence? You can't. The simplest answer is the correct one. He's drawing them to them to restore them to the fade, just as he said he wanted to do. You can keep saying "he doesn't see them as his people" and that's correct, that's why he has to restore them. They aren't his people until they've been reconnected with the fade.

He could need the elves for his plan. He doesn't want his girlfriend to see what he will become.  How could he be ashamed of becoming Moses?

He doesn't say modern elves will survive. He does say he has used countless people before.

At least for now I have no reason to believe he doesn't intend to use them for his own purpose.

There's no evidence that there are no other ways to manipulate the Veil. In fact, the evidence is strong in that he's working on something, since he's taken possession of the eluvians. Morrigan hid there, in some pocket plane. Solas could use them to dig up other artifacts, or place the modern elves in a place to wait out the chaos. Solas has already used Mythal's power, it's a possibility his plans are to use the remaining elven "gods" power as well, probably against them. It fits his M.O. far better than blood magic.

Exactly my point. If all of that failed, there is still a way, and having loyal elves let him do it willingly would make him feel like he's not a monster, as he says to you twice in Trespasser.

Modern elves aren't going to survive, they're going to be restored or die in the choas. In either case, modern elves will cease to exist as they do now. The story has made it a point to show us that the modern elves are still connected to the fade in a way other races are not. There is a reason for this.

It's not a problem for me. The whole point of theorycrafting is looking at the pieces and considering them, which enough people will eventually do to try and form a part of the story. It might be wrong, but it's good to consider all angles.

But demanding that people back up every random thought or idea they had about a character, or situation, or plot point does not necessarily help. Maybe they didn't have a big theory worked up, but another person can work with that tidbit and add things they remember or saw in the game. It goes back and forth, and you may not get an answer from the first person who put the idea forth. You can't just loudly declare that one person is wrong because they don't have a thesis ready for you. It suggests a tone of hostility and then no one wants to engage. There's room for all of us here, and we should keep it that way.

Still wishing the (attack) option had worked like refuse and you got a non standard game over.

I mean even on my guys who want to stab Solas they're not gonna say so in his face right after he turned half an army to stone. What kind of moron move is that?

That's all true, but I thought attacking Flemeth was fairly amusing

I guess there's room except for me, who's asking for reasons behind theories. If there aren't reasons, that's all they have to say. I could very well be wrong, but so far my theories are backed up by the story and fit all the pieces logically. You're coming across like this place isn't for me, since I'm asking questions. This is the place to do so, and I'm doing it politely and I'm backing up my theories with what we have as evidence from the story. So no, you're not going to get me to shut up and no, you're not going to stop me from asking people where they get their ideas from. No offense.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people leap to this blood magic thing when Solas has shown no affinity for it whatsoever, not even to help out Cole. He could have easily done so, in secret. Blood magic is clearly not Solas's cup of tea or his "style" and he goes about other ways to get things done.

If you want to promote this blood magic theory, find something in the story that backs it up, with regards to Solas. Every opportunity he has to use it, he passes.

I had a conversation with him, and he is not against blood magic.

We know ancient elves used it. There might be other ways to use them. He might eat them. For now I just can't picture him as Moses.

You certainly don't have to stop. Just don't act like everyone else is wrong if they're suggesting something you don't like or agree with. I'm never going to get behind the idea that Solas is Dirthamen, but hey, the theories are fun to read anyway. Do as you will.

Here's a few reasons why your Lavellan might want to join Solas

  1. Sandal's prophecy sounds a lot like Solas will actually suceed, so the Inquisitor will ultimately fail to stop him anyway imo.
  2. Selfishness - some Lavellans may just not give a **** about the rest of Thedas anymore (clan dead, believe destroyed, elves are treated like **** and will be for centuries) and if there are people who will survive Solas' plan, they're most certainly the elves who chose to join him. There's the crossroads and an elven inquisitor's connection to that place + their bond with Mythal if they drank from the well. Our chances of survival should be the highest if we actually join Solas, especially if your Inquisitor doesn't believe that an elf with Solas' powers can even be stopped.
  3. Backstabbing - you may want to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. It will be easier to stop Solas when he believes you to be on his side, just in case his exact plans turn out to not be to your liking
  4. Morbid Curiosity - Thedas is a horrible place anyway, why not just see what that magical world without a veil looks like? Solas painted a very interesting picture. It can't possibly look much worse for the elven people than current Thedas.
  5. More selfishness - your organization just went to crap and your boyfriend happens to be the mastermind behind that other giant veil-destoying operation. You will surely have one or two things to say to his thousands of subordinates once you're part of the plan... also access to eluvians, fancy armors and some ancient elven magic that might be able to restore your arm or otherwise make you more powerful.

Of course joining him is not the most morally correct thing to do and he won't let you either way, but I could absolutely see one of my Lavellans really want to join him for some of those reasons... maybe more than those, that's the one of my two Solasmancers I havent' actually created yet. The other one would stop him at all costs if she can't change his mind, cause she actually cares about people.

Oh, I know he's not against blood magic as in... he doesn't leap to judging the character of someone who uses it.

Still, that doesn't change the fact that where he could have practiced using it, he doesn't. He finds other ways to get what he wants. He doesn't have to be Moses to do that, nor does he have to be Moses to want to restore his people.

In fact, what's the point of restoring the Fade if it's not going to benefit the "modern elves". Who else is left to benefit? Death came into the picture when he severed the elves connection to the Fade. Most if not all of the ancient elves are dead. That's why he's calling the "modern elves" and that's who he's going to restore. Makes perfect sense.

They won't be "modern elves" because they'll be re-connected to the Fade. "Modern elves" will cease to exist. This is how elves were originally, where magic comes to them as naturally as breathing, because of this connection.
