Radio stations for the omni-tool? Also, omni-tool for the new pause menu?

Fallout 3 had multiple radio stations that had music and even certain decisions you've made, the radio host spoke of it!

Why can't ME:A have something like this, and why can't our omni-tool be the new pause menu? It would allow us to actually see what the omni-tool does instead of looking like transparent orange glass.

Or like the Dead Space in game menu

I don't see why not. The system certainly lends itself to

Unfortunately, BioWare don't have access to Now That's What I Call Music 2557, so populating the music list would be more difficult than it was in Fallout. The best we could hope for would be to include the game's sound track. Beyond that would require synthesizing entirely new music that fit in with the new culture.

News broadcasts would be easier, though less entertaining likely, but it might provide an easy way for BioWare to communicate the player's successes back to them.

It's an omni tool. I want TV stations.

That only play Cowboy Bebop, Kamen Rider Amazon, PMMM and Shark Week.

This would be really neat, actually.

Maybe they could use the music and soundtracks from the Shepard trilogy.

That'd be nice. Also use our omni-tool to view the map, like in this concept art.

Well in another galaxy radio might be dead, killed by the video star.  Or more to the point you'd have a huge list of saved music as a way to save your culture since you are fleeing to another galaxy.  Have ME1-3 music, have music from now, the past, and poor guesses of music from tomorrow.  Put 20-30 songs in your I-tool and allow yo to hit play.

Yea, the only music BioWare could use would be any music they already have the licences for, so only sound track music.

However if BioWare wanted a Krogan music station that played Krogan opera music, they'd need to make that from scratch. Fallout has the benefit of living in a time period where all the music actually existed and is probably in the public domain.

The problem is that other than literally classical music (which is in the public domain), the only classic worthy music are probably still protected by copyright and would cost an arm and a leg to license. The same goes for recently released music.

And yet Rockstar and other game developers do it routinely.  So I'm thinking its not quite the arm and leg costs you propose.  It might not be this year modern, but 2+ years old chances are they just want more exposure so it would be sold on the cheap.

I like this idea, they could have news updates on the radio like they had with the Cerberus New Network but it's spoken on a radio instead.

This is a good idea. The music wouldn't have to be in-game music from the series. It's not like music is just going to be electronic bleeps and bloops in the not-so-distant future. They could license some good dreamwave/retrowave to get back some of the vibe of ME1. The omni-tool as the menu interface also seems like a good way to make the game more immersive.

I want something like Glyph for my protagonist. He would follow you around playing music during combat ;P

Depends on the song. Ones that can be considered classics of our time probably know that. I wouldn't expect Bruce Springsteen to just hand over Born in the USA for cheap. You're right, it's probably not an arm and a leg for most, but it's still an expense for an unnecessary feature.

I would expand from having a radio station to having other station as well. haha

A music station that plays AC/DC, Ozzy, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and more. Excellent

Have an all sports network like ESPN. I like for my main character to keep up with the Panthers every Sunday. Excellent

Have the ANN(Andromeda News Network). Maybe a distant relative of Kaslisha al-Jilani gives news reports of how well humanity is doing in Andromeda.

Maybe a movie channel. My main character will have a squadmate drive the Mako to whatever location while she/he watches a Clint Eastwood movie or a Cary Grant movie. Even a James Bond movie. Excellent

Maybe have a AWC(Andromeda Weather Channel) It tells you what to expect on whatever planet you're heading to.

That would actually be a cool feature, so long as the only station isn't one that plays hits from the 21st or 20th Century. In universe those songs would be a few hundred years old, so it would take me out of the setting a bit. Bands/songs that aren't as well known and that have unique sound that could pass for futuristic would be better.

I want thaaaat. I'm hoping the omnitool will serve this purpose as well as add a layer of immersion, such as bringing up area maps, and not just as a may to spam tech powers.

Seems like a cool idea and if the game is going for full long exploration, it could make the experience more memorable. Also, yes to the omnitool being your menu and map.

As far as using the original ME soundtrack, I think that's a given. The music from ME:A will most likely be remixed from original trilogy, with a few new pieces.

And even though I'd love to have real life music, I don't think it'll happen. As long as it feats the theme and they don't go "here some classical music from 200 years ago: Lady Gaga".....

I'll die of happiness when I hear this again in ME:A

Just imagine it like this:

You press start and the game smoothly switches to a first-person view as your PC raises his/her arm toward the screen and your omni-tool takes shape. A familiar circular menu appears in the circular, hard-light form over the back of your hand, displaying in-game options like music, map, inventory, codex, suit status, etc, along with an option to take you to the meta-game options like save and load.
You open the music menu and start a playlist that you made earlier. Then you go back and open the map, which opens in a 3-D hologram that you manipulate with your right hand, zooming in, expanding out, looking for shortcuts, etc. Then you set a course that will appear on the 2-D map in your helmet's HUD and start moving to your destination.

The pipboy is just the Fallout incarnation of the general concept of a wrist-attached small computer, and the Omni-tool is its Mass effect incanation (with some extra functions).

The Broccoli's would probably charge them $1,000,000 to use the Bond music.

The omni-tool for the new pause menu is a great idea. A radio station would also be nice to have while exploring. The option to change the omni-tool's color would be pretty cool too.

I like it.  Make it happen, BW!

Just make sure you mix the sound right so if there's banter I can still hear it....

Yes, I want it all.

edit: and yes, pause, menu, too. check your journal, map, stats and upgrades and relative/related...stuffs.
