And now the hyperbole starts.

The males get theirs and as soon as we ask for ours, it becomes this: "So why not have a male trailer that has a Black male, and another for an Asian male, and another for a Hispanic male. Then do it over again for the female gender. I mean how deep in this are we going to go so that we please everyone and not make it feel like some groups are being excluded?"

I mean if you give women our trailer, where does it end? You have to give every single group on the planet a trailer. Yeesh!

Are you that threatened by women? Is this the real issue? I think it might be.

I'm going to err on the side of caution and assume this is jsut you making fun of the progressive butt-babies, Julia. Don't disappoint me by actually being one of them.

What's a "progressive butt-baby", exactly?

If gender isn't such an issue, then why Bioware, or any other company that has games with gender options, are so persistent on focusing on dude protagonists only? To attract male buyers because they think only with a dude in trailers, they'd be interested in the game? So that means if it was a woman instead, they wouldn't be interested? Okay.

But when I want to see a woman instead, "i take a non-gendered issue and make it all about the gender".

It's called "picking one and sticking with it". It isn't some weird misogynistic conspiracy to keep women out of their games or out of their marketing. I think if that were the case, they wouldn't have the FemShep trailers for ME3 or the DAI demo with the female Inquisitor. I also don't think they would make the female protagonist an option at all, but that's just me.

Why do you think that putting a guy in the trailer will attract men to buy their game? Do you assume we're all gay?

My attempt at not calling them something far more vulgar.

Ooooooooh so they don't try to attract men by putting dudes in trailers... right. Why put men in trailers then?

All that fuss because some people, including me want female trailers.....

Given how only 18% of people played femshep, they shouldn't have even bothered.

Well if it makes you happy, EA included female players in the FIFA 16 trailer/commercial.

However, a male still is the one being marketed on the box art. I expect MEA to be similar.

If you only advertise the game with a male protagonist, logically more people will play as a male.

It's not as cut and dry as 'more people play as male shepard therefore there shouldnt be female shepard trailers' as male shepard was used as the default in advertising before a single person played Eden Prime.

It's not only that gameplay influences advertising, but that advertising influences who plays the game.

Lots of my female friends hadn't played Me1-Me2 when I asked them because, while the games appealed to them, they thought they couldn't play as a woman, which they prefer to do. Because the popular marketing for both of those games provided them no reason to believe they could play as a woman.

Not to mention the fact that lots of people picked the default shepard just because it's easiest, hence all the Sheploos running around (if advertising hadn't featured sheploo, I doubt many would have kept the face like that - advertising led them to believe he was the 'true' shepard). If you advertised the female protagonist just as much as the male, and randomise which appears as default like dai did, I bet far more than 18% of characters would be female.

Given how only 42% of people finished the whole game, they shouldn't have bothered with the game.

Yeah sure pal, cause people are too dimwitted and sheeplike to notice and select the female option in character creator unless outright told in an ad(that they might not even see to begin with).

Just imagine how tiny the percentage of that were femshep players.

Are you saying that if sheploo hadnt been in ANY trailers, and it was only femshep, with an iconic appearance, and femshep appeared as the 'default shepard' in the character creator, then still only 18% would have played as Femshep?

Furthermore, I'm not talking about people who do play the game only picking manshep because he's the default so much, rather that if you only advertise ever a male then obviously fewer people who only like playing as women will play the game. It's just common sense.

Having trailers about women doesn't 'matter', but complaining about threads on a video game forum does 'matter'? Interesting perspective of the world.

You don't get to say 'ugh this doesn't matter' then go on to debate the ins and outs of which you prefer our of Me2 and Me3 as one of your recent posts shows. Does that really 'matter'?

This point every time - who cares how many people use a particular option, the more options the better.

I don't have any views on Bioware's marketing, just the absurdity of less represented folks wanting more representation. In a trailer no less.

There are men in the trailers because there are 2 genders to choose from. The figure in the trailer is either a man or a woman, and they went with a man. Bioware isn't exactly a stranger to putting women in their trailers either, so why you give any kind of s*** about this is baffling.

They didn't buy because they couldn't play as a woman? Sexist.

If you think people only pick the male because he was in the trailers then you are actually stupid. It's also just as easy to pick the default female one as well, the fact is there are more male gamers and no don't quote statistics that say it's close to 50% either way, mobile games don't count.

Male / female gamer ratio doesn't automatically decide the ratiot of male / female characters played though. I am a male gamer and I play female characters 90% of the time.

So if someone wants to play as their own gender is sexist? This is a new level of stupidity.

I guess those "80%" of men who played male are sexist too.
