So, now that the Trials have made it a lot easier to get your pick of Fade-Touched materials, I want to know what people like to use with each character.

What is, in general, your favourite Fade-Touched effect?

What do you use most often (if it isn't your favourite)?

Do you use specific materials with each character?

Personally, although I usually play on at least hard I usually choose a weapons masterwork material based mostly on colour. Obsidian just looks better then other metals, especially for daggers.

Before I had the DLC (was on a hiatus from DAI and only recently bought all DLC), my favourite on my rogue was +guard on hit. But now with the upgraded Horn of Valor, my entire party has full guard. :P Kinda in limbo what I'll replace it with now that I've started new playthroughs.

Probably;

  • DW Rogue: Hidden Blades on hit;
  • Archer Rogue/Mage: X% damage bonus if not being hit for 5 seconds;
  • S&S shield: Chance to cast Pull of the Abyss on a hit (gather ALL the mobs! :P)
  • 2-H Warrior: 10% chance for 5 seconds of Walking Fortress (I don't play 2-H, but it helps Bull survive if I choose him and don't respec him to S&S :P).

Shield bash on hit is great for Artificer and tempest archers

I haven't tried it yet but War Horn upgrade and Mindblast masterwork should allow every warrior to cross-class combo

As someone who only plays with ff on, i like walking bomb, chain lightning, immolate and pota on hit since they dont deal ff.

What would you guys recommend for an Assassin Archer?

That depends on what you want for the character. More DPS? Survivability? Stealth buffs? Stealth buffs are fun.

I want a heavy hitter, massive damage to deal with the most dangerous foe on the field quickly while the party keeps the weaker ones busy. As for survivability it's enough that I manage to stay alive to be able to deliver the pain, I guess stealth and evade will have to be my tools for that. I'm thinking guard on hit wouldn't be as efficient on a setup that deliver it's damage in big chunks, and other fade-touched effects that rely on percentage to trigger on damage. Perhaps one could work around that by adding Poisoned Weapons into the mix? I've yet to start this character so I'm trying to get some insight on how to set him up to be efficient.

EDIT: Oh, and tell me about stealth buffs, fun you say?

I have yet to play an Assassin Archer, but between the stealth focus of Assassin and the range focus of an archer I can't imagine they will be getting hit that often. So what about the fade touched materials that buff you if you go a certain amount of time without taking damage?

Either - 20% ability cost or + 20% damage.

A consistent + 20% damage boost is nothing to be sneezed at on a damage build.

my faves are

- Hidden Blades

- Immolate on Hit (on Mages, cause I can use the free spot on the skillbar for something else)

- Guard on Hit (for Rogues)

- Walking Fortress on Hit (on armor)

True, looking through that list it seems options are limited for that type of character.

Hidden Blades and Guard on hit for rogues and mages.  I tend to put quite a few (maybe too many) of my warriors' skill points into the guard building abilities, so for their items I use fade-touched materials with offensive ability.  One exception:  I have yet to put many points into Iron Bull's Reaver spec b/c the AI doesn't know how to coordinate the use of that spec's abilities properly, but even so I often find Bull needs extra help keeping his guard up, so sometimes on armor I'm making just for him I'll throw on a '+ Guard on hit' or 'x chance for x seconds of Walking Fortress'.

Fade touched bloodstone/pyrophite for +7.5% extra damage per enemy in 8M radius. I rate is as one of the best melee masterwork in the game especially warriors and KE.

Fade Touched Everite for healing. Mandatory on pretty much every mage imo. You heal for 25% of all damage you take, whether it be to guard, barrier or health. Avaar rogue going to one shot you? Guardian spirit and Fade Touched Everite will save you, healing you back to max within a few seconds.

Fade Touched Plustian Velvet. Hidden Blades proc is super good on every class. Free precision detonator too.

Fade Touched Nevarrite (On death: Target explodes for 75% of weapon damage) Perfect for Rogues. Wait, so you take 75 % of my killing blow and apply it in an AoE around the target? Amazing.

Fade Touched Dawnstone. Best anti death defensive masterwork in the game. Guard on hit wont save your rogue from being one shot. Pure invulnerability will.

Fade Touched Varghest: 20% damage bonus if not hit for 5 seconds is great on mages/archer rogues.

Fade Touched Bloodstone: 7.5% extra damage for each surrounding enemies is godlike.

Most overrated masterwork is probably guard on hit. 5 guard isn't going to save squishy classes, and is now even more redundant due to new Horn of Valor.

I know about guard on hit, but masterwork materials like 3x hidden blades on hit would work on a mage, for example?

I utilize Guard on Hit most often, but have become a fan of Fade Touched Honeycomb with Bees on Hit; hope it can appear in the base game now, too.

Sure it works, used it on my mages :) and why would you use 3 x Hidden Blades, if you could use 5 x Hidden Blades on hit ;)

I've been trying to get away from abusing Hidden Blades on everyone, but i agree that with Horn of Valor, +Guard on hit is no longer a must-have.

For my S&S Warrior, I've always kept an eye out for Pull of the Abyss, but now I'm thinking the chance to cast Mind Blast would be good for some combos. Anyone try it out?

why? use the new war horn for your stunning needs, depending on mind blast for combos is kinda wasted. War horn stun+dispel will give you on demand combo.

The 1% Healing On Hit was recommended; seems good for Mages and high Attack stats.

It is still good, and i personally always rated it as a better defensive masterwork than guard one. Simple maths made it better and now with the new upgraded horns it is still very good. Rogues who use poison weapons do not need it now.
