So i just got my Mass Effect Library Edition Volume 2 that has all of the foundation comics. After first one i was very excited for more stories in ME universe. Evolution was actually quite amazing. I get to know why TIM had his glowy eyes and their even foreshadow ME3 ending with indoctrination of Illusive Men. Homeworlds was really good and invansion was fun to read. Actually, at first i thought these comics will be dull but they added so much to the lore.

So it boggles my mind why Foundation is so...bad. I don't know where to start actually. Art is from bad to mediocre at the beggining and quite good actually at the end. But amount of plot holes this have...

Why Miranda know about clone and Rasa? (Hope Lilium huh?)

If Vasir has Rasa's DNA how she managed to get to Citadel without being noticed?

If Thane's wife make him stop being an assasin why 2 pages later she is like "ok, fine, go kill some people".

Ohhh so Jack can defeat Kai Leng but that Krogan Mercenary behind her was so sneaky that he just shot her in the head with shotgun.

Aside from that, stories in these comics are actually...ok at best. Character development? Nope. Maybe Rasa got some but not really.

Stories are short, they show nothing new (aside from Rasa story) and they are really confusing at times. I got confused several times about what actually happened. Foundation 5 with Miranda and Jacob was really messy and in the end this story has no impact whatsoever. Character development? Nope, just some running around Omega and shooting Batarians, then it ends with "Well Shepard is not here". Stories are dull and you don't even need to read them. Why? Because if you played games you already know these stories. They just recycle them, not adding anything new.

Still it had some positives. First female Drell. Even if her development was beyond stupid. Kasumi mission was fun to read even if it made Kaiji suddenly be worst thief ever. Ashley get's some backstory. Very little but still. Some better pages here and there. But still it's not too good. Actually it's bad.

And what do you think? Maybe only I am so negative about this.

And yea, I know im a little late with it.

The stories werent so bad just thought of them as a prequel to the events on ME1 though it does get a little confusing when Miranda doesn't know who Rasa is in the citadel DLC but maybe that's why she wasn't present with you in fighting ur clone because she would've known that brooks was Rasa in disguise xD well as for chap 5 with Jacob and Miranda I thought it was a slight nod to the start of their relationship which ended before shep rose from the dead... All in all well was an OK addition to the overall storyline

Don't forget Zaeed meeting the Shadow Broker face to face!

It also never explains what was the point of having Wilson in ME2 considering all the havoc at the beginning of ME2 was supposedly wrought by Rasa stealing the clone.

I didn't understand why Leng and Rasa allowed the krogan to carry Jack away. Then Leng goes all drama queen mode about having failed the mission.

I admit I picked up the Foundation comics mostly because I wanted to learn more about my favourite characters and I found what I was looking for to an extent, but aside from that I have to agree. I didn't really find them that good. They were perhaps okay.

The problem with the art was that the characters looked different in every panel. Rasa, Ashley, and Rahna looked like one person. The art wasn't very consistent. Not horrible, but... not great, either.

As for the stories, I agree many of them didn't have that much going on and they had quite nonsensical moments. Some didn't have proper closure. Especially Miranda's and Jacob's search, true. I felt like they were perhaps too short to really tell a story. I don't know how many pages Western comics usually have, but about 25 almost seemed too few to tell anything proper to me. (But maybe that's normal amount?)

I have mixed feelings about the comics because I was happy to get more info on the companions. Some of them were quite fun or interesting, like Kasumi's, Zaeed's, Kaidan's, Ashley's. I find Rasa to be an interesting character.

I guess I can say that I didn't love them, but I didn't hate them.

Everything you said, i agree 100 % I don't hate it, but there is so much wasted potential. I react like this because I love this series so im always like "this should be better!" :P Still i enjoyed some stories from it, but plot holes, mediocre art and comics that were too short to tell a story made this...a lot worse than previous library edition. I'm happy for your feedback in this :P

I understand that completely. There are things in the games and literature that make me lose my crap, too. Much like you, it's just because I enjoy the franchise so much and because I've gathered a lot of knowledge on the topic in my head. So sometimes I see something like that and am like, "No. "

I think Zaeed meeting the Shadow Broker in the comic was the most memorable plothole for me. That made me WTF really hard. You're right that there were many others, though.

Or Keiji being able to say goodbye to Kasumi before he died when he was fataly injured on the head. (I assume that's when his grey box was taken.) That's not so much a plothole as it's just... awkward.

Thane's story made me pretty depressed, actually. I've always imagined they had some big romantic thing going with Irikah. The way he talks about her in the game, I've always imagined he must have loved her very much. Turns out he actually stalked her. (That kind of creeped me out.) But I guess that's in character for him since he probably didn't know a whole lot about interaction and romance. The way it ended with him taking the shot "through her"... I don't know, it was somehow disturbing...? I mean, this is probably not valid criticism, but Thane's chapter was surprisingly depressing. On the other hand, it was interesting to see how he struggled to be a normal person.

Don't forget Irikah having lizard boobs! (by the same artist responsible for the horrible art (Kai 'gibbon arms' Leng) in Ashley's issue.

Dear lord, do I hate it when they slap boobs on females of every species (and on female armours) just because "If no boobs, how can people tell it's a woman?" So unimaginative.

Yeah, the art was curious. I haven't read many western comics, so I don't know whether this is common, but at times I felt it was kind of clumsy and ugly. Especially when the characters were shown from distance, the details sometimes lacked completely or the characters were unrecognisable sometimes. I gave up thinking about it sometimes around when they put even 17-year-old Kaidan into the spine-breaking boob & butt pose and when his face looked different in every panel (when he didn't resemble himself much to begin with). It's strange, because the environments, on the other hand, looked rather good, in my opinion.

"Kai 'gibbon arms' Leng," lol. Amazing.

The comics are fake stories and Foundation is there to seal the deal.

And ME3 was in a Reaper.

I refuse to accept these comics as actual events in the Mass Effect universe. They're actually a story written by the Stargazer's grandkid in the days/weeks after that 'one more story,' featuring their OC who's totally cool and awesome and has ties to everyone in Shepard's life, they just didn't know about her.

The fun thing about this is that it explains the plot holes - the kid can't be expected to remember EVERY detail, and they're the only one who the Stargazer was telling the story to, so they couldn't be corrected.

The whole purpose of Foundation was to push Cerberus' status as Space Illuminati to ridiculous degrees by making them involved in every major event in the entire franchise.
