After everything, now this banter caught my eyes.

Iron Bull: Hey, Varric, I was reading your stuff. Where do your bad guys come from?

Varric: Well, some of them come from Tevinter and some are Ben-Hassrath spies, but I like the story where the villain was the man beside you the whole time. The best villains don't see themselves as evil. They're fighting for a good cause and willing to get their hands dirty.

Iron Bull: All right that's... really deep and all but, I meant where do the bad guys come from literally. The way you write it is like they just fall from the sky and land on top on the hero.

Varric: I like to leave some things to the reader's imagination.

It's just so....all the clues BW've given to us... I just couldn't stop staring at my screen. Well played, BW. Well played. are there any other specific banter caught yours?

Technically, that's Varric referencing the enemy spawns in DA2... (remember, we never actually were Hawke - we just listened to the story of Hawke, so to speak)

And foreshadowing at the same time.

I see what they did there.

I don't think it qualifies as banter but I played Tresspasser, listened to Solas talk about Fellassan's death...and then I replayed it and listening to 'Slow arrow breaking in Sad Wolf's mouth' from Cole...OMG.

Solas and Varric have a chat about Varric's book. Solas comments on how most people in it end up being some sort of trickster or spy, and was really interested in it. I got the foreshadowing there ha!

Cole: He hurts, an old pain from before when everything sang the same. You're real and that means everyone could be real, it changes everything but it can't. They sleep, masked in a mirror, hiding, hurting, and to wake them....(gasp) where did it go?

Solas: I apologize, Cole. That is not a pain you can heal.

I will also add that we should watch out about the Inquisitor.

Whether through institutional corruption (keeping Inquisition) or personal corruption (staking it out on their own, with incomplete knowledge and therefore ignorance about Solas), and that they likely will not be the player protagonist in DA4, anything can happen. The Inquisitor is seeking someone 'Solas doesn't know' basically. They may be right by the side of this new person.

Again, they may be right by the side of this new person, and do not necessarily need to stay the hero archetype. They may seem to stay in that role, and maybe even contrast with a potential Tevinter-ish protagonist personality, but keep your guard up, because DAI may be teaching us things that new players to DA4 may not be as aware of.

Solas going after Bull about the Qun,

Iron Bull: Tell me something, Solas. Do you think the servants here are happier then the people living under the Qun in Par Vollen?
Solas: It doesn't matter if they are happy. It matters that they may choose!

...

Solas: Your Qun would crush the brilliant few for the mediocre many!

I hear the working title for Dragon Age: Inquisition was Dragon Age: The Foreshadowing.

^^^ THIS ABSOLUTELY THIS

In so many ways. Everywhere.

(I think the same of Mass Effect 3 but we'll have to see if I'm correct on that, while most here would disagree.)

The general banter between Vivienne and Solas early in the game still cracks me up. So much snark; so little time!

Vivienne: So, an apostate?
◾ Solas: That is correct, Enchanter. I did not train in your Circle.
◾ Vivienne: Well, dear, I hope you can take care of yourself, should we encounter anything outside your experience.
◾ Solas: I will try, in my own fumbling way, to learn from how you helped seal the rifts at Haven.
◾ Solas: Ah, wait. My memory misleads me. You were not there.

I'm not fond enough of Solas to call him Brolas, but he does wipe the floor with Vivienne perfectly.

Serza Greatly Approves.

This. Now that we know what we know...

Plus it's the romance banter, AFAIK.

Yeah got this one recently and was like ayyy writers, I heard a tapping. On the fourth wall. I keep telling myself to go through all the Solas banter on the wiki for hints and/or foreshadowing but I never get around to it.

Cole: You don't need to envy me, Solas. You can find happiness in your own way.

Solas: I apologize for disturbing you, Cole. I am not a spirit and sometimes it is hard to remember such simple truths.

Cole: They are not gone so long as you remember them.

Solas: I know.

Cole: But you could let them go.

Solas: I know that as well.

Cole: You didn't do it to be right, you did it to save them.

Quiz: Solas, what is Cole talking about?

Solas: A mistake. One of many made by a much younger elf who was certain he knew everything.

Cole: You weren't wrong though.

Solas: Thank you, Cole.

I absolutely hate Vivienne (and she ended up being Divine for some reason even though I supported Leliana and outright insult her everytime)

But I love taking her with Solas. He absolutely wrecks her in every conversation they have. After your first playthrough, the banter is even more hilarious because you see Vivienne trying to show her superiority in magic. Like really? Do you know who this guy is Vivienne lol

  • Cassandra: I did my part. But the power you describe was never mine to carry.
  • Cassandra: I know myself and I cannot be the leader we need. Thus, I have no regrets.
  • Solas: You surprise me again, Seeker.
  • Cassandra: Your opinion of me must be very low to surprise you so often.
  • Solas: Not low, but realistic. Very few, however honorable, release power they have won.

  • Cassandra: I noticed, Solas, that you did not seem surprised by what I uncovered about the Seekers.
  • Solas: No? They are an organization.
  • Cassandra: You think organizations to be inherently corrupt?
  • Solas: Given enough time, yes. To survive, an organization must devote resources to maintaining itself. Those resources inevitably accumulate until the original purpose, however pure, is all but lost.
  • Cassandra: You make the Seekers sound like a mindless beast.
  • Solas: A beast, no matter how mindless, will die and give way to a successor. An organization is eternal. There are always corrupt men who hoard power for their own gain and there are always honorable men who hoard power to fight them.

They were even foreshadowing the last choice in Trespasser, about disbanding the Inquisition.
