I'd go SP first because Mass Effect has always been about singleplayer to me.
If you had to choose between a really good ME:A MP or ME:A SP, which would you choose?

Because without ME3MP's runaway success, we would not be discussing ME:A right now in any respect, which makes everyone complaining about how MP destroyed ME rather droll.
People say this as if multiplayer outright prevented the game from being an utter failure, but they don't know this.

Much as I have loved MP (and I have played and played), ME is surely about the story first.

ME3's falloff was the largest in TRST history until A:CM and not even the GJP's dubious at best "over 70 perfect scores" stopped the grumpy train. 5 million in sales sounds great until you look at the lifetime curves of the other two games.People say this as if multiplayer outright prevented the game from being an utter failure, but they don't know this.
But of course the fact that even Halo 5, DA:I, and BF4 took notes on ME3's MP is just an extremely convenient coincidence right?

For MP, maybe.because Bioware learnt how to design decent gameplay and levels.
They already had the best RPG gameplay around. Their real-time-with-pause combat was a revelation, which is why they've used it every RPG they've made except one (Jade Empire).
That's BioWare's strength, and that's what they should keep doing.

The degree is arbitrary, the definitions blured.
If I´m to choose between one evil and another,
I rather not choose at all.

No competition, single player. The ME3:MP was a fun little bonus activity (DA:I MP, not so much), but the only reason I buy Bioware games is for the the single player.

SP without question. I played the hell out of ME3MP but it wasn't the gameplay (fun as it was) that drew me back was the fun of playing as races like the Turians, Krogans, geth etc. This was primarily because of how invested I was in the game's setting and dumb as it sounds I used to make up little stories about how my MP characters were affecting the Galactic war effort. This is the reason I don't really care about DAMP, I'm not as invested in Thedas so if I want to play a dungeon crawler I'll play Diablo. Unlocking a magical loot player is less thrilling to me than getting a Krogan Battlemaster.

SP should be the priority. Only look at MP if the SP is as good as it's ever going to get.
