So, Drew Karpyshyn has rejoined BioWare. (Working on TOR for now.)

No kidding, he co-wrote the narrative trainwreck that was ME2 that destroyed the entire overarching plot of the trilogy.

At best. Drew's comments indicate that the decision to kill and resurrect Shepard (and jump ahead in time) was made quite early on, which makes sense given Cerberus' prominence in the narrative. Far more likely that Walters came on after those choices were made.

I'd rather hoped the got Chris L'Etoile back, I still give him more credits than anyone else from the orginal writing team.

Yeah, there are plenty of ways this can go. Either he's there for a long time, or he's prepping the early stages of a new Star Wars IP (honestly, I find this pretty likely), or he's helping out with TOR for the near-to-mid future but then switching up and aiding the Mass Effect brand, or the Dragon Age brand, or the secret IP. Or he does TOR and then leaves again, but I'd rather not entertain that reality.

My dream would be if Disney gives Bioware the reins of 1313 and lets Drew work that.

Honestly...

Drew is an overrated writer.

Yes he is, he's quite enjoyable, but ME1 is shock full of glaring inconsistencies and rule of cool writing

I am neither happy or upset about this, to me his strength is his ability to make a group of different writers sound like one voice.  I don't think his writing is that much better then anyone else at BioWare because of how the original story of The Old Republic worked out and he worked on that for three years before leaving to write his novels.

I'm hoping he gets transferred to the ME:A team at some point. He can only work on TOR for so long.

Doubtful.

In interviews after he left Edmonton during ME2's development to move to the studio at Austin, he specifically discussed how he was tired of enduring another Canadian winter.  I think climate and what he perceives as quality of life have a lot to do with it (perhaps also related to family desires).  I think he'll stay at Austin for more than just project reasons.

Anyway, I'd much rather see Chris L'Etoile come back than Karpyshyn because I thought he was a better writer, but L'Etoile has been much more critical of Bioware since he left, so that ship has probably sailed.

Well, he did play a huge role in KotOR and that's likely my favorite Bioware game, so no complaints here.

I for one, welcome him back.  I loved KOTOR and ME1, even if the story pace is unbalanced.

Meh, I rather have David Gaider write for the ME series. Him and Patrick Weeke are the best. Too bad neither are on ME series.

Don't say things like that, you will trigger the DA (especially DAI) haters.

Whatever position he has on the writing staff, I hope there will be a strong cooperation between all the writers in order for them to be able to challenge each others ideas and help refine them into the best writing possible.

True, but I'd still pick Drew over Mac any day.

I'me fine with Drew coming back and I acknowledge that he isn't as good a writer as some people say he is.

Wrong.

Walters was one of those whom made changes.

Gonna have to source that. Drew's comments indeed suggest otherwise.

Most intriguingly of all, Karpyshyn mentioned a discarded plot idea for the beginning of Mass Effect 2 that sounds similar to what Walters and the Mass Effect 3 team eventually chose for the trilogy's ending (er, spoilers):

"There was some ideas that maybe Shepard gets his essence transferred into some kind of machine, becoming a cyborg and becoming a bridge between synthetics and organics - which is a theme that does play up in the game," Karpyshyn concluded. "At one point we thought, maybe that's how he survives into Mass Effect 2.

What's so absurd about his opinion? Seems rather accurate to me.

He didn't support nor condemn the ending. Stop putting words in his mouth. All he said that the core idea of the ending was there, And that's something that even i agree on. But he also said they tweaked things. Exactly as i suggested. But he also pointed out that the entitlement of gamers on the forums may not be on an accurate basis. That their admiration for him is just concidential.

Whatever my opinion of him as a writer I think he's a cool dude:

"Funny. Some upset fans say ME3 was awesome until the end ruined it. Claim it would have been better if I was still on the project. But fans upset about my [Knights of the Old Republic] Revan novel claim it was awesome until the ending ruined it. So maybe I wouldn't have made any difference."
