Well black emporium has good schematics. I like perseverance and find it to be quite a bow.

Grunsman schematic is really good for getting the most crit chance out of your bow. Bow of the Beresaad schematic is better if you want more dexterity. Both schematics can be bought at the black emporium.

A really good found bow is Tezpadam's Bane, which while it doesn't give any crit chance, gives you the unique "explode for 150% weapon damage on death" and a load of dexterity. Not quite as much as the Beresaad schematic with a Wrapped Longbow Grip, but still a lot. This bow is the reward for defeating the final boss of the descent dlc.

The Elgar'nan Enaste is also decent, but doesn't give as much raw stats. Though it does make all your shots explode. You get this schematic in trespasser. I'll put its location in a spoiler in case you haven't played it yet.

Agree with above, Grunsman from BE is the best value IMO.

For looted bows at low level (still in Haven), Bane of Red Crossing can be gotten fairly easily from the Storm Coast. That will last you long enough to either earn enough gold for Grunsman, or to get to WEWH for Trepanner's Requital.

Crafted Perseverance for Artificer archer. You can get as much as 51% crit chance.

Too bad the Grunsman bow looks like crap. I don't care how good a bow is, when it looks like a twig you pick up at random when you're bored, it's just not going on my Inquisitor's back. :P

True, there are some awful looking bows.

I think the one that looks the best and has good slots is the Swan Bow schematic.

The Descent Lyrium-Reinforced Longbow schematic can (with T4 mats) get you 203DPS/180Dam with 18 Cunning, 18 Dex (or better Dex/Cun singularly) plus +28% crit dam, but I've been using the seemingly inferior Grunsmann's Bow (from Black Emporium) with 188DPS/166Dam because it gets me a +36% Crit chance and a grip option with +63% crit dam. I've been tempted to use Descent's rare bow Tezpadam's Bane because of the whopping 214DPS/189Dam and +41 Dex (plus some nice extras like +12% armor penetration, +7% sunder, and the rare explode-on-kill masterwork), but I've been operating under the assumption that it's better to get crits more often than get heavy crits less often. This is why I prefer Cunning and Crit Chance: critting over 1 in every 3 hits makes for lots of big number kapows. Add a silverite 10% chance of Hidden Blades, and I see lots of heavy damage piling up regularly, especially with Leaping Shot or the upgraded Far Shot that hits multiple enemies. Plus the explode-on-kill probably looks great, but you have to get the kill shot for it to happen and it only does so much extra dam. Still, with regular hits doing a base dam of 23 more than Grunsmann's Bow can do, and hitting 26DPS faster... dunno.

EDIT:

Hakkon's Wrath does 224DPS/182Dam, but this is with the Master Frost rune that comes with it. I get 216DPS/166Dam with Grunsmann's using a Superb rune... and there's no crit chance/dam or grip on Hakkon's.

Is there a full explanation of how the Elgar'nan Enaste explosive arrows work? I notice that the explosion can hit many enemies if clustered. But what I'm curious about is without a rune it seems to hit and also deal a lesser fire explosion damage. But when equipped with a rune the "arrow" seems to hit twice while also dealing the lesser fire explosion damage. So while the schematic doesn't have the top tier stats due to less materials and no grip would this behavior of the double hit cause it to be the best at least in terms of normal attacks?

While crafted Bows from the BE are the best ones stat-wise, I'm using Bow of Artifice from the special shipment chests. http://dragonage.wik...Bow_of_Artifice

166 damage, 42% crit chance and 6% stagger on hit are decent stats but the elemental mines are awesome because they deal the 165% weapon damage the normal skill does and they spawn directly under the enemy you hit. So no wasted mines. I don't know exaclty how many mines are spawned but the damage is really good - and most important: this bow is fun.

Yeah, I saw that artifice bow come up when I was doing some save/reloading to see what the trials chest can give me. Makes me really want to play another artificer - spamming point blank range leaping shots (thanks to the nice crit bonus) with that on hit effect?
