Maybe I am missing something but was there a point to crafting ,having collected all the schematics and all the required high end armour metals and cloths I could not make anything as good as the Armour and weapons I found in Descent .

I spent a lot of time in Skyhold trying out different recipes but there was no way I could compete with the in game loot ,and to be honest crafted armour even tinted looked like tat .

As I said at the beginning was I missing something or was it just a game filler ,mind you I thought the wardrobe in my quarters at Skyhold was a good idea I loved changing into different outfits when I was home :).

All in all a great game and I am missing it now its over Trespasser could have been a little longer I

So Bioware please hurry up and get another game out there longer if possible, as I now have withdrawal symptoms .

I don't know if Descent changed things since I don't have that, but the general opinion is that crafted gear is ludicrously overpowered compared to found stuff.

Did you find the Taken schematics in Trespasser? Or the dog vendor in the Hissing Wastes?

It also depends on what you're looking for. If it's just high armor/resistances, looted DLC armor should be serviceable. If you're looking for specific characteristics, then crafting is the best way to achieve those goals.

For example, I don't care how much resistance a piece of rogue armor has, if it doesn't grant as much damage as their crafted armor, I'm throwing it away. My rogues shouldn't get hit anyway, so resistances are useless to them. Ditto when I picked up amazing weapons for warriors, but their crafted weapon casts Horn of Valor, which applies a DPS boost to my glass cannons. That's more of a DPS boost than they'd get from using a sword with slightly higher personal DPS. My mages tend to be CC-heavy builds based around Flashpoint, so I often put them in crafted rogue armor just for the extra crit chance. And so on...

You're in a spoiler-free forum, OP, you really-really need to edit some things about your post. Like whom you wanted to fight. That's kinda HUGE one....

Its is. I prefer my own crafted items than what I find in the game.

Crafting Stuff is ridiculously superior to anything you find, except for Descent.
But even when you consider Descent the Fade Touched skills make crafting material superior.
But if you compare to anything else other than those 45 stat armors from descent crafted gear is WAY better, no comparison. Those armors just made it a little bit harder to beat DLC loot gear, but the Fade Touched materials make a huge difference since you can get 40+ stat AND the effect of your choice in crafted gear.

And I'm talking about armors because when it comes to weapons not even Descent can be compared to crafted stuff.
Rainbow Sword, Axe of Dragon Hunter and so on... UNBEATABLE. Plus Trespasser stuff allows for 2 effects, 1 inate from some new schematics and 1 from fade touched, game gets ridiculously easy even with trials on.

I thought this too, but then I realized all I was looking at was the base protection of armour or fps for weapons. There's much more you can do with it.

In principle I agree with some of your points but for my human warrior inquisitor the armour and helmet plus the shield I picked up ,and belive me you need to explore Descent a few times as its well hidden ,but if you use the war table in the lower section it helps (trying not to give any spoilers here) even after defeating the Titan I went back a few times and I am glad I did.

Wearing the pieces I found and equipping the shield I became pretty much invincible for the rest of the game ,maybe they fitted my build, but equipping crafted items and crafted weapons had nowhere the effect these items had on attack and protection.

I can honestly say I never hardly used a potion afterwards my group was Sera Cassandra Vivienne and my warrior .

My crafted gear is far better than than the gear I find in game. Also I like that I can customize things to my own preferences.

So whilst not essential, crafting can be pretty usefull.

Getting the materials can be a pain though, so I guess that's the trade off.

With crafted gear I'm invincible from level 1 (actually lvl 3 since I need to reach Haven)...
plus things die in seconds once I reach skyhold (now we get fade touched from trials so when i reach there I already have the best stuff)

But one important thing to notice is that the fade touch effects in Descent are good defensive buffs, which I completely ignore on all classes, so that must be the reason you like the stuff. I focus only on killing regardless of class so those defensive fade touched from Descent (guard on hit and walking fortress) disgust me. But for a defensive warrior perhaps you are right (I will never know, never gonna wear defensive stats).

My problem with found items is- I find something actually better than a crafted item, but it is useless because of the level restriction. Do I hold onto it until I can use it, which by then I will have better crafted gear, or do I just sell it outright and forget it.  I usually sell.

With the new 1000 item store box in Skyhold I tended to put the higher LV items in there until I could use/wear it . Personally I think crafting would have been better if the items looked better ,the armour from descent along with the helm made my Char look so great that it makes you feel better. Marching into battle was a pleasure ,there was also items for all the group rogues and  mages mind you get Viviennes build correct and she is unbelievable in combat ,I had her on defend and she keeps you all alive as well as great DPS .

Huh? Looked better? The items look the same with or without crafting and you can tint items. With crafting you can choose the appearance even better with crafting upgrades (for the weapons/armors that allow it of course). I sincerely don't understand what you think it is superior in Descent items compared to crafting items, I get it you never found Fade Touched materials that give you the same effect you find in Descent items? Specially because you can craft them choosing the stats you want since you get schematics for all of them, even the helms. So exactly what is superior in the found items? As I said maybe you were lucky they came with the stats you wanted and were unlucky to find crafting material before playing the DLC that gave you this same stats but it is not a fault of crafting it is a matter of you not being able to craft.
But just to keep on topic, let me focus on this question: What is superior (in your opinion) in the found items?

Okay to answer your questions I have already mentioned tinting which other that altering a few stats and changing the colour does nothing to improve the way your char looks .

Quote "I get it you never found fade touched materials " you really do make me laugh .

I believe I mentioned that I had recovered most if not all the schematics from 1-4.

As to the items I found to be superior these were the Revered Defender armour and helm ,my shield was Isatunoll and as a weapon I preferred bitter axe with a Demon Slaying Rune .

So  IMOP these worked better for me than items I built using strangely enough Dragon items ,after all I killed all 11 in the game plus fade touched material .

Again this is MOP, if you belive you made wonderous gear and weapons crafting than so be it ,all I know is that after equipping these items never once did I have a barrier broken or come near to defeat .

Yet you did not answer anything. Compare the items and show me in what a crafted item is inferior
I just crafted a tier 3 with more Constitution (50) and more defenses (8% melee 17% ranged) than the revered defender armor

I really do find you funny ,I bet you were a real wiz at debating as you really do not read a post before you jump in with both of your big feet lol.

Maybe I should put a code breaker in, IMO translates as In My Opinion ,not yours mine ,your concept that crafted Items look good is totally without foundation as the Defender Armour (now remember what IMO means) IMO is 100% better looking than any item I (that means me) crafted at any point in the game ,right up till I kissed Skyhold good bye.

Again with fear that I am repeating myself the stats on the Defender range fitted like a glove to my build which was 1 hand and shield ,Champion quest completed full champion points alongside battlemaster and Vanguard .

Why I am bothering to explain all this surprises me as I am not sure you understand the mechanics of the game .

Yes, there is a point to crafting. Crafting allows the player to create the exact armor and weapon that the player wants for each party member. For example, I can construct  armor with interchangeable parts that will give 80% fire, electrical, spirit or cold resistance which means no need for carrying that particular potion. I do not believe that is possible with looted armor.  In addition if the player is using mats that give double stat changes the effect can be even more profound.

I understand that you personally have not crafted armor better than the revered defender but others (myself included have).

Wow, so let me translate for you...
I crafted an armor with the SAME features of the defender, but better.
And if you are going for the looks well craft the defender LOL
Crafter can offer both things you said superior in the found item, stat wise it can offer better, visuals wise if can offer the same
So in your own opinion crafting is superior, your wish to ignore numbers and features is not excused by "it is my opinion"
So again, unless you show me what crafting can't do better I'm just going with "you said things you don't know"
You like what you did find, ok, I will never argue against it, but something being better is not opinion when numbers are on the table, also when you can craft the same 3D model it is completely absurd to say that and item VISUALLY IDENTICAL to the other is better.
So please repeat your "it is my opinion" mantra, a thousand times, perhaps the numbers will change or 3D model in the game files will change...

The only problem I had with crafting in Inquisition was the fact that I couldn't craft a staff that looked like Tyrrda's Staff. :crying:

Okay last try ,I crafted Armour ,I crafted weapons ,I added different runes ,I added different stats ,I added heavy legs ,light legs ,I crafted shields ,I crafted helms ,

and for all your I can craft as good and better than defender armour that looks as good then I am going to disagree with you.

Wearing my crafted armour made with the stats needed to defeat each Dragons strengths  took longer used more potions ,wearing defender equipment I breezed through each Dragon without barely a scratch ,my Inquisitor needed no portions indeed I refrained from wearing the extra potion belt instead using the superior barrier belt .

I finished this game like a knife through butter ,indeed there were a couple of bugs in trespasser where my group didn't follow and it ended up 1 on 5-7 and there were no chance of losing the battle .

So for all of you out there who loved the crafting and made wonderful armour and weapons good on you ,though why I ask myself are there so many people across a wide range of forums asking for help to defeat Dragons and complete battle heavy quests if crafting was so wonderful.

I understand the excitement of crafting ,though the early times in Haven are a joke, just part of moving you along in a direction .

If you look at the game as a whole it is wonderfully crafted in design because each area if completed before moving on supplies everything you need to complete it before you move to the next .

So for fear of repeating myself In My Honest Opinion crafting though fun is not required ,having better quests that lead to better equipment is a far better way to go as the hidden stats applied to game generated stuff works better IMHO.

Isanas Song is  the best staff I found deadly in Vivs hands along side wearing Master battle Mage Armour,  Caliban was one of the best swords I gave to Cass to use and the Divine Armour and Helm made her pretty much invincible ,Sera like wise in Stone stalkers coat and using Hakkons Wrath became a killing machine .

Making sure you understand the correct paths and where to apply your points IMO if far more important than crafting TAT .

To many want to rush through

Again you didn't answer and did not address what I said. It is mathematic, not opinion or how you felt.
Defender have 45 constitution, I can craft armor with more constitution AND more resistances. AND a better Fade-touched effect like guard on hit or chance of walking fortress. Constitution and resistances are NUMBERS they can be measured they are not opinions.

All the reasons you pointed are just screaming "I Have no idea what I'm doing with crafting", like this "Wearing my crafted armour made with the stats needed to defeat each Dragons strengths  took longer used more potions", never have I crafted specific gear for dragons, never I had trouble with them, even with even ground making them all level 27.

You probably don't even understand what in the Descent armor made you so "unbeatable", something a crafter knows just by having a glimpse of the equipment, and the reason is guard on hit of the sword and walking fortress of the shield, both fade touched effects you can apply on crafting. If you crafted your armor instead of repeating "found armor is better duh" you could craft items with even more guard generation or any other effect better than "abilities cost less stamina", and also, as I said, better stats. To be honest with a champion, having "to the death" and "walking fortress" I can't picture someone having difficulty in the game, was the easiest of my playthroughs to the point of being ridiculous.

Oh and you are not that deep into the game right? "though why I ask myself are there so many people across a wide range of forums asking for help to defeat Dragons and complete battle heavy quests if crafting was so wonderful" - People actually kill bosses on nightmare without equipment (no bugs and no exploits, just honest play),, this is how easy this game is, just watch on youtube, also people teach their builds and strategies freely, no one is keeping any big secret. With the new "Combat Roll" rune and the "rainbow sword" my champion exploded enemies and bosses in seconds, with crafting game do not get easy, it gets so ridiculously easy you can't believe it, you not only become imortal but enemies don't last enough for you to know they were on screen.

But still on what matters, in case you didn't get, and it seems you didn't:
Descent armor have stats, it is mathematic. 50 constitution > 45 constitution. 16% defense > 5% defense and so on. But again, I'm pretty sure in all your blindness you didn't realize it is not even about stats, as I said what wonders you is the walking fortress and guard on hit from the sword and the shield, that make you "immortal". It would be easier if you just admited you don't know what you are talking about, which you partially did "I just know game became easier with that stuff", meaning "I have no idea what I'm talking about, I absolutely don't know why or how, I know nothing of crafting, but it became easier and I'm gonna argue that I know that crafting is inferior even when I don't even know why my equipement is superior and can't prove it"

But in all your posts it became pretty clear you don't understand high level crafting neither high level gameplay. It is not a problem, not at all, as you said, a lot of people have problem going through the game, but it becomes a problem when you argue thinking you know it. So yes, for a person who don't know what they were supposed to craft to achieve what they want it is obvious that found equipment will be better. You are amazed by features you didn't even know you could have and that were amazing, if you ever have crafter gear with Walking Fortress and Guard on Hit before you would be enjoying all this "Descent DLC Immortality" from the beginning...

I never had trouble with anything on nightmare except for the first time I played Jaws of Hakkon. Descent and Trespasser were laughably easy.

Crafting lets you make items with Fade Touched Silverite (+5 guard on hit), Snoufleur Skin (+1% heal on hit) and Plush Fustian Velvet (10% chance to use Hidden Blades on hit, with 5 extra blades). Those are some of the best special abilities in the game.
