It has a better topic now.Okay....this thread has gone remarkably off-topic.
Fiona gets a bit too much unjustified hatred

Not really. The mages have always been presented as disunited and fractious, with lots of splits and people going their own way. They're united only because of the Templar policy of mass slaughter.
*snip*
I don't think she was talking about politics, but rather mage's tendency to refer to other mages as "our people", regardless of origin. The good example is Fiona herself, calling rebels "your fellow mages" to a mage Inquisitor, despite having just met him/her for a first time.

Now, on topic, just how evolved does a species have to be in order for asari to reproduce with them?
All animals have a nervous system. The ability to do calculus seems to be a criteria based entirely on cultural norms rather than biology.

A Tevinter take over could have been plausible, but it would have required making it a bunch of steps that each made sense
Like a Tevinter Magister sending his own lackeys to infiltrate Fiona's group and use time magic to retry over and over again until the right mix of arguments, threats and pressure made her say yes?
Because that's exactly what happened. For all we know, Alexius tried to convince Fiona 800 times, failed 799, and kept reset the timeline until e finally succeeded after 800 tries.

Well, that certainly gives a new meaning to "screw the pooch".

Oops, I'm really sorry, I didn't meant to offend
I'm only offended on behalf of women everywhere, not myself.
But mostly I'm offended for my One True Love, Dez. She's so sweet, when she's not making badass and incredibly intelligent posts.
(I miss you, Dez! Come back to me!)
The photo gave me a false idea, that's all. (Name didn't help, that said.)
Democracy is non-negotiable.
(I find it funny. And distinctive. Both of which are me.)
Srsly, your name tricked me.
Really?
It refers to the position as much as anything. I used to be the geek on a debate team, and they'd joke I should be Dean of a College when I got older. I was like, why wait?

Next you'll say you thought I was a guy.
Wait now, I distinctly remember in the other Fiona thread a girl, using the Templar's Insignia for an avatar, calling you a man and you saying she was your gilfriend.

I think you're taking the numbers presented in the game too literally. They tend to reflect more what is likely not to cause someones Xbox360/PS3 to catch fire than what is really intended.
Whether it's literal or not, the point remains that the numbers are a red herring: why are the Mages of Redcliffe the only mages we can use? We've clearly stabilized the Breach enough to travel to and around Orlais and the Free Marches- so why not take a ship further to Tevinter, or the Qunari?
Even if Tevinter is to a mage smug and condescending and uncaring about the demon invasion (I don't think they are, but hey), the Qunari clearly care a great deal. We've got Bull, and the potential for a full alliance, to prove it. They care about demons and fade enough that they not only considered an invasion, but that a possibly rogue group sacrified mages just to strengthen the Veil.
Even if Vivienne's loyalists weren't sufficient, there were other sources for mages. Why not ask them?

Or if they could be matched, it would require a commitment of resources that would make it impractical. I mean, the Qunari sending essentially all their Saarebas, and all the necessary handlers for their Saarebas, and the security they would need? What you're essentially asking for is a large scale Qunari invasion, and you're in no position in act 1 to get Fereldan to sit back and allow it.

Because the assemblied mages of 3/4 of the continent aren't the sort of thing that can be matched by another faction.

The mages at Redcliffe aren't- can't- be all that much, considering what we see and know. The Mage Rebellion at the end is a shattered husk of what it was: a number of the Circles were outright annulled, significant numbers of mages were either loyalists/fled/died in the schism, the Mages lost the war and all their other strongholds outside of Redcliffe when the war was militarily lost, a good number of the powerful leaders were lost in the explosion that caused the breach, and of the mages still left in Redcliffe an unclear but significant number are the weak, injured, or children.
We aren't looking at a thousand. We're looking at dozens, maybe a few hundred on the high side- and most of those aren't needed for the Breach closure.
The Qunari sendint Sarabas (or Tevinter volunteers) doesn't require an invasion of the South.

What's contrived is that Redcliffe has the only mages we can use. It takes, what, a dozen mages to help the Inquisitor seal the Breach? And the Inquisition can't find that many in its own ranks? Or from recruiting Vivienne and her loyalists? Or by recruiting from the Carta/underworld? Or by asking around Tevinter?
You could say the same about the Templars too. Why do we need the ones at Therinfal and not ask the unaligned Templars at Hasmal (the second largest group of Templars after Therinfal) or Ostwick? Or train our own?

Listen. Strange fellows dwelling in forums, distributing blasters and titles, is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical internet ceremony.
