I wanna be the very best,
Like no one ever was.
To catch them is my real test,
To train them is my cause.

I will travel across the land,
Searching far and wide.
Each companions to understand
The power that's inside

companions, (gotta catch them all) its you and me
I know its my destiny
companions, oh, you're my best friend
In a world we must defend

companions, (gotta catch them all) a heart so true
Our courage will pull us through
You teach me and I'll teach you
(companions) Gotta catch 'em all

Every challenge along the way
With courage I will face
I will battle every day
To claim my rightful place

Come with me, the time is right
There's no better team
Arm in arm we'll win the fight
It's always been our dream

companions!

(Gotta catch 'em all)

It's you and me
I know it's my destiny

companions!

The only character I have ever declined to recruit is Sebastian, and that was only because I wanted The Last Straw to play out a certain way for RP reasons. I actually liked everyone in DAI, so they all get at least some time in the party rotation, but there are some characters I travel with more than others due to utility.

I totally didn't like Sebastian.

DAI I recruited everyone.

Just to see how things shake out, I've occasionally chosen to tell Sera, Blackwall, Iron Bull, Cole and Vivienne to take a hike or never brought them along in the first place. Dorian is one of my favorites of the new companions, so I always keep him around and befriend him as well, although I've only romanced him a single time.

I play female and he is always my favorite.

In my headcanon my Inquisitor ends up executing Vivienne. If only that was an option in gameplay. I recruit her just so my Inquisitor can ****** her off. I'm annoyed at the lack of dialogue choices for putting the uppity woman in her place.

I find Sera good fun but my husband hated her - didn't recruit her once and booted her the second time. Also I wouldn't bother with Blackwall and possibly Cole.

Love Cass, Dorian, Varric and Solas. Iron Bull is a bit on the fence for me.

I don't bother recruiting Viv or Blackwall.  Recruiting Sera is 50/50

I always keep everyone around in case I get bored of certain characters tagging along. I can never really roleplay DA games to the extent I would want to, so I don't really even try. I do have some preset opinons on certain matters on different characters, but not ot the extent of booting companions.

Especially since I like all of them on some level.

One of the nice things about DA2 was that benching companions didn't really feel like that, because they all had their own business here and there and lived in their own spaces, with the exception of the live-in LI. So even if I don't particularly care for Sebastian, I can still recruit him but then just leave him to linger in the chantry and it doesn't make me feel like I'm not using my group properly.

Yeah, I know what you mean, and that's pretty much what I did most of the time, but Sebastian is kind of a special case. If you recruit him at all - even if you never use him - he interrupts the cinematic between Meredith and Orsino with his (in)famous "Maker, no!". I was doing a playthrough where I didn't want that interruption to occur, so I didn't recruit him. If you don't recruit him, you lose out on his companion quests, obviously, but he never appears in The Last Straw, either.

I actually liked Sebastian and I recruited him on every other playthrough, but I had something specific in mind for that one, so I didn't.

I recruit everybody, even if they don't appeal to me and I don't use them in my party much. I still do their companion quests too.
