You can use the anchor invulnerability thing, but barrier works well too

Yeah, the new Anchor Discharge power allows you to become briefly invulnerable.
The other way is to cast barrier and either fade step, evade or charging bull (depending on class) through it before it wears off from the damage.
Or both, if you can manage it.

Adding to what others wrote, Walking Fortress works as well.

I made my mage go through the flames. I had to use Barrier plus another ability, one that creates an automatic defense should the character be near death. It's avaliable in the same tree of talents where Barrier is and works in a similar way to one of Blackwall's talents (it creates 3 luminous shields that rotate around your character).
Usually, there's more than one obstacle of purple flames to cross at a time. If you only use Barrier, it won't protect you against the second barrage of flames. You need this extra talent to make sure you can make it safely.

Mine got geeked even with a barrier on. But I didn't try the shiny new power.

It looks to be a different version of Amaterasu, so a sealing jutsu would probably work best.

The new power works well enough but you have to hurry. If you have to go through more than one or return through the same one, it is best to wait a short time to let your hand recharge and then do so. I told my companions to stay put while I was doing this.

I'm pretty sure you're referring to walking fortress (?)
It sounds like you may have added fade-touched material to your armor to gain the walking fortress skill for your Mage (?)
Cast barrier and quickly blast thru the flames and you'll be fine.
Fade step, charging bull etc if you don't have the new anchor skill yet.
I know I ran into several locations with the blue fire before I ever earned the new anchor ability.

Sounds more like that Spirit passive ability that creates a barrier when your mage gets low health.
Personally I used either Barrier, Dorian's Necromancer ability that creates a ghost of him when he dies or the new Anchor power.

I'm sorry for not having been more specific in the previous post. I have a bit of trouble remembering he names of each talent.
Usually, I just read their description before deciding whether to activate them or not.
