I have never used the lancer. Is it supposed to be a good weapon?

It excels at being Average in all respects, which puts it above par as far as ARs go. It's decent if you care about your Power Cooldowns, but a pure weapons kit would benefit from a heavier AR.

Unless your "heavier ARs" are at a lower level. Lancer IV rocks my world, I keep having to take it away from my characters, they do still keep a tight grip though. I use my Typhoon IV on my Destroyer and Volus Adept, but most of my characters are some sort of power/gun hybrid with the Lancer (Some of them, like the Shaman, have been forced to use the CSMG III because I am out of AR Amps, you should've heard what he had to say about it, he refused to fire it for an entire match, with a lot of roaring and shouting!)

I love you, finally someone has recognised that unless you take the reegar the only efffective way to play the useless volus adept is tu put the spitfire/typhoon

My friend runs PPR Volus Adept (Pretty sure he used it to solo Plat as well). Our all-volus games are insane. Volus Adept is a good weapon's platform. With Biotic Orbs specced for cooldown, my Typhoon IV gives me about 5.4s recharge speed on SHield Boost, which is enough to A) Reload cancel with non-extended clip, B ) Keep the 6sec 50% DR buff from Shield Boost, C) Always in Soft Cover, D) Always aiming Up, so probably a headshot.

It's the AR with the least compromises you need to make. Unlimited ammo, decent damage, autofire, decent clip size, workable accuracy and recoil. If you just want pure unspoilt dakka this is a good option. Especially with the wide range of ammo at our disposal. Also comes with the sound of the original for the feelings.
Heh, I thought the Lancer's muzzle flash was one of those things everyone knew but for some reason never talked about. Sort of like the Indras explosive rounds or the Typhoon ejecting shell casings. Turns out it wasn't. ![]()
You're welcome, fellas. ![]()

It's a great gun for reasons mentioned above. I personally prefer the CSMG but I think the two weapons cater to different playstyles and aren't really comparable. Lancer is better at sustained damage with its larger magazine and more damage per round while CSMG is better at burst with its higher rate of fire, a much easier to control recoil, no bloom and a 1.5x multiplier against armor.
Their cooldown mechanics are also different. CSMG starts cooling down as soon as you let go of the trigger but takes longer to fully recharge while the Lancer has a slight delay before starting to recharge but recharges quicker overall. For me personally, the CSMG's way of doing things is better as whenever I pick up a Lancer, especially after not using it for a while, I overheat it so often it's not even funny.
Also the CSMG is a submachine gun so unless you use it exclusively, you're guaranteed to never run out of amps.
^ Accuracy of CSMG & Lancer are very close.
Not even in the same zip code. CSMG recoils straight up and doesn't bloom. With a slight pull down of the mouse/stick you can keep the reticle on a target's head at any range. Lancer blooms like hell and has this weird popcorn recoil. Hard cover and various stabilizer mods help a lot but to say a stock Lancer and CSMG are close in accuracy is just wrong.
Capn223 did a visual test on them awhile back against close and distant walls on giant and it was hard to tell a difference. But Cyonan said the CSMG is still a bit more accurate.
Recoil wise, you do eventually learn to adjust to it. But lately I've gotten lazy and prefer stability help on most weapons. Even stuff like Claymore and Raider.
Are you talking about the one where capn used a 100% stability turian soldier? In that case, sure, they're very similar.

I will admit to Lancer having more recoil. However, the bullet spread is almost identical. Lancer has higher base damage, CSMG has armor mod. CSMG is lighter. Lancer suits hybrid characters (TSent, SE, Carnage KroGuard, QME, VEng, BF3Soldier, etc), CSMG suits pure casters (Paladin, ColDept, etc) who don't require heavy Shield damage from Acolyte/Talon (HSent, most adepts, etc).
The CSMG is a cheesy gun that has no character at all. I use it but I like a little bronco in my character's hands more because it's more believable to dish out damage. Actually the recoil isn't that bad. I guess it's the overall feedback of the gun. Thank you, sound department.
Lancer gripe?
I hardly know 'er!
No, I have no idea when I'm going to stop, but it does go in phases, so eventually I will stop torturing all of you...

The min zoom aim errors are identical, but the max zoom aim error of the CSMG is 1.5 which is higher than the Lancer's 1.0. Accuracy scales from min to max depending on firing time, and CSMG is overall less accurate than the Lancer for anything more than the smallest of bursts. This is why the following was performed.

People are hung up on equivocating accuracy and stability, and in some cases people did not understand how the accuracy variables interacted.
Recoil and recoil yaw are both predictable whereas accuracy is not. And in any case, CSMG has higher frequency recoil yaw.
Outside of a complete inability to combat recoil, I would challenge anybody to demonstrate that their on target DPS is actually higher with CSMG than Lancer for anything that isn't pure armor.

Its great on the TGI. As anyone tried this?
Harrier TGI gets more 'nades.

I love the Lancer.
Topscored many times with the QFI+Lancer combo. As a personal preference I use stability dampener to solve the recoil and then a magazine upgrade giving me a 102 round magazine (unless increased with the Destroyer). Great gun. Possibly my favourite. ![]()
You'd hate it for the same reason you hate the acolyte
lol. tbh I've had a change of heart / paradigm shift somewhat recently. Basically, I now use the same weapons and gear on any character I play: Reegar / Acolyte / AC5 = RAAC master race!!! It is complete and utter domination. I've been testing on U/U/P and have been hard pressed to NOT come in sub-25, regardless of teammates, and with about a 90% mission success rate (it is not impervious to wave 10 devices on glacier, or geth / condor).
