Whirlwind/Vortex of Steel bug, slingshotting away?

I'll start a Whirlwind/Vortex and instead of the targets being pulled towards me, I end up being slingshotted away from them. It seems to happen on uneven ground and/or if the target is less than waist height on my IQ (a Qunari, so that might have something to do with it too.) For example, it happened with the room full of spiders in the Forbidden Oasis, both outside and inside. A couple of times, a spider would be sucked in and I'd end up on top of it and would then shoot away.
I don't go very far, but it's far enough to disrupt To the Death, which gripes me to no end.

Happens sometimes, with spiders for me and only noticed this on them. Still a damn good skill.

Since we're talking about Whirlwind, does anyone know why that ability even after all the patches still sometimes fails to continue spinning? It's supremely irritating when I position my 2-hander perfectly amid a bunch of enemies only to have it fizzle out unceremoniously? It's quite a nuisance.

You have to hold the key to sustain it and any interruptions will end the spinning.

Yeah, I know. It still fails to continue on occasion.

Perhaps your PC is too out dated and lags. The combat system mistakes the lag as you letting go of the button. Hence it stops.
Interestingly enough, sometimes my finger is tired and I let go of the button completely, and then press it with another button. Most of the time spin-to-win continues.
BTW, PapaCharlie9, is the vortex upgrade providing an acceptable alternative to using warcry? Nothing wrong with Warcry (+200% armor is nothing to sneeze at) but only 8 slots available.

I find the skill provides tremendous control, that is the beauty of it. If you start your spin by getting behind the enemies you can essentially lock them down.

Early signs are positive. I'll want to spend more time on it to see if the lack of Taunt is a problem in the long run, but so far I'm not missing War Cry. I've only tried high level characters so far, though. Nothing before Skyhold.BTW, PapaCharlie9, is the vortex upgrade providing an acceptable alternative to using warcry? Charging Bull, on the other hand, I'm keeping. Combat Roll was just not a sufficient replacement.

Same. My method is to keep tapping the key, not hold it down.

Hmmm, this is the only thing that makes sense to me. I have an older rig, playing on low settings, though I don't remember experiencing any noticeable lag.

Good to know as I'm winding up my Champion build again. I don't think I ever suggested combat roll could take the place of charging bull. In fact, I'm a firm believer in both. It's not always easy to keep enemies in range, especially with them giant jumping around.

I'm using Whirlwind with Vortex on my twohander-Champion-tank. Combined with http://dragonage.wik...m/wiki/EdgewiseI normally have everything taunted on the battlefield without Warcry or Challenge. Walking Fortress as ability and masterwork on the armor help enormously to keep Whirlwind up and collect all the enemies.
And it's one of few twohand swords that don't look like crap. Hi @ Chromatic Greatsword.
OT: I noticed the slingshotting only on uneven ground from time to time.
