This thread really proves that at least some demographic of BW games only cares about romances. The plot, story, combat, etc., all secondary, just make sure we have a dozen different romances with multiple sexualities. I suppose everyone has their priorities...
Should BioWare not reveal characters sexual orientation before release?

To twist this around a bit, should I then play first anxiously wondering who I'm going to romance and wondering if anyone is into my character? I think that sounds more of shallow playthrough for me.
That's how relationships work in real life.
It's OK to plan a story, but I think that it should be done after a first playthrough. Going in with spoilers ruins the surprise and the verisimilitude of relationships.
Ultimately, I could live without knowing who they are beforehand provided that I know that I'll have two options. I don't need to know specifically who the two options are. But, I don't see the big deal in releasing the information prior. If people don't want to know, they can just avoid spoilers. Frankly, if there was even a single piece of information that I didn't want spoiled, I'd go on a total BSN and other gamer site embargo a few months prior to release. Just to be safe.
The difference here is that BioWare makes sexuality quite apparent, and somewhat part of its marketing campaign.
I got to ME3 completely unspoiled while still frequenting the BSN, reddit, and major game news sites. However, I was entirely aware of everyone's sexual orientation before release.

I would love to learn some back story and perhaps more about the outset of the mission, It wouldn't spoil too much. But the Deep in-story stuff that you figure out as you play. I would like to wait until I've played it through at least once. Then I might check what else I might have missed. For later playthroughs.

In all honesty does it really matter,it is not like people wander around wearing labels like "Gay" or "likes cake" pinned to their chests.Talk to someone and find out about them you lazy buggers.

First of all, there's nothing in this thread to suggest that any demographic "only cares about romances". It's clear that some demographics (unsurprisingly those who have been neglected in the past) are more concerned about it than others. But, why do you care, though? Who cares why other people are excited about the game?

Yeah, I can see how it's harder and harder to avoid spoilers given the recent marketing strategies. Hell, Sera's sexuality was revealed on a episode of Heroes of Cosplay last year. I wouldn't even have known to avoid that show if I were in a spoiler blackout.

I care because this romance obsession could have negative consequences for other aspects of the game, combat, plot, story, etc. Not that my caring has any bearing here. I am a minority here as I think combat and story are more important than romances. I personally wish all romances were gone, which I know will not happen.

That'd just ruin my first playthrough, trying to figure something like that out would make game hard to enjoy. There is also high change romance would fail in the end and whole thing would be waste of time.
This just doesn't simply go with the style I like to play my games. I don't like going in blind in the game and especially in the romances. Some might like that, but for them it's maybe best to stay out being spoiled entirely so not read anything about the game or be very careful about it.

Not sure what the worry is. Combat and story is still a priority for BioWare too. No matter how often threads pop up, the actual content in the game is still just some bonus stuff that literally counts for a few minutes out of hours of playtime.

This is the reality. Romance content has a strong vocal fanbase. But no one is asking for the games to become dating sims. Better romance content is improved story content, after all. And combat isn't the opposite of romance. You can care about both types of content. It's not a zero sum game.

That's fine, but as a game designer, I like to see games (and designers) that are brave enough to evoke emotions and simulate situations that aren't completely ideal for the player (like wasted a investment in a relationship). I don't think any artistic medium is at their best without pushing the consumer to the edge or outside of their comfort zone. If you're not challenged, you're not learning, and identifying and pursuing meaningful relationships is a challenge.

It's video game. With main character that isn't you.
I like games that have nice story including characters and plot twists. I like to be challenged (in reasonable manner) by combat and characters. I like to learn from the story. Failing in playthrough, because romance content is not learning experience for me. It's called wasting time. It's not learning nor challenge, "meaningful relationship" is challenge perhaps in dating sims, but I like my challenges elsewhere.

I haven't read previous responses but TBH it doesn't matter to me one way or another. If I try to romance someone and they go for it, great! If not then I'll find someone else to romance. It's not really a big deal.

No. It is a separate verb but it means the same thing.

Whinge: complain persistently and in a peevish or irritating way.

Why a fear for affirmative action?
I think it is a better idea that those more phobic members of the community to imagine you starting out as one specific orientation (that you do not share, or, again, got a phobic relationship to) and that being the only option for relationship, or romance, in the game. I bet that would cause some drama in your precious anti-sjw neurons.
However, about being open about orientation does it not seem too unrealistic. Humans do often share what kind of preferences they got before they end up in a relationship. So it wouldn't be so wrong that npcs are clear in this regard.

I know a way they could avoid this issue entirely.
Ok, I will bite.
How?
And please don´t waste my time and tell me "No romances".
It´s evening, I´m bored and you are usually pretty entertaining.
