Wouldn't it be cool if we could customize our ships, give it a fresh paint-job and choose from a variety of engines, shields, etc. or would you say that it would take away too much from the character / focused experience of the game?

im not sure our ship will have any role in the game except traveling from point a to b. but i wouldn't mind.

Not too opposed to customisation, but i wouldnt expect anything like engine customisations or the like unless its actually going to be of use. Im more hoping internal stuff like maybe changing whats hanging in our cabin, moving stuff about. Dont like where the couch is? Fine, move it! Dont like it at all? Throw it out the airlock! ![]()
I doubt this'll happen but if we do get to move stuff about i'd hate it if it was 'point and click'. I think it'd be awesome if we want to move something, that its at least a little realistic. Oh you wanna move the table? No problem *grabs table and moves it about the room* . Wanna move that heavy bed? *Calls a crew member for assistance* and then you can use the keyboard keys (Or controller buttons for the console players) to move about with the item your moving.
Now a paint job... that would be interesting ![]()

I doubt they will make it a space game where the ship has the same utility and imporantance as in space sims like star Citizen or Elite, where it's the main focus. It will be more like a mobile base for talking to your NPC crew. and transition you from Point A to B upon the click of a button.
I welcome extended content and customisation however. I'm not as concerned about the paintjob though, for poor colonists and refugees paintjobs seems like an unnecessary luxury.

I demand to have option to color my ship in pink and have 'Fabulous' name on it!

I don't really need to have ship customization.. but I guess it wouldn't be negative thing to have. Customization of Skyhold in DAI was quite nice so I guess ship customization can be as well, at least if we can customize interior as well.

I could see some interior customization similar to what we could do with Skyhold. I just hope that when our PC is on the ship, he's not wearing beige pajamas.

Yeah, Skyhold-esque cosmetic customisation would be nice. It's absence wouldn't be a deal breaker by any means, but it would definitely be a feature I would appreciate.

they said the Normandy was going to be customizable in that way, but it wouldn't have benefitted from the quality of pre-rendered scenes, like the dog fight in the galactic core.

I wouldn't be surprised if during the game there are options to upgrade a few things to the ship. Upgrade the weapons, armor and shields like the SR2. Maybe upgrade the thrusters so the ship travels faster or at least get out of trouble faster than getting into trouble. Maybe customize the cabin.

Why would anyone say nay to that?

Well, Bioware has expressed a lot of interest in making our new Mako customizable, so maybe our new ship will be too. I would be all for it.

Why would anyone say nay to that?
I might.
There won't be any space combat, so any customization of the ship would likely just be cosmetic. As such it would be a nice extra, but not a necessity. It might not be worth the investment in resources if the trade off was something being cut.
I'm for it only so long as Bioware's got the time and money to implement it without cutting corners elsewhere.

Fair enough, for me it would depend on wich compromises would have to be made (if any). Although I think it's almost a given that we will atleast get the option to customize our ship cosmetically after skyhold.

I mean, if it's fairly simple like skyhold or me2 upgrades then I wouldn't say no. But I don't want a huge list of crap like with the Jackdaw(AC4), particularly since it presumably won't be used for much other then getting around.

I see your Shepard and raise you a Normandy

On topic: If it fits into the game, why not. However, I'd suggest something simple, where we can customize some textures and maybe add some stuff in predetermined ares (similar to the apartment in Citadel). I wouldn't want the devs to spend too much time on that and rather focus on more important stuff in the game.

I'm for a customizable interior, at least in the PC's quarters - if I have to live here, then dammit I want to at least be able to change the drapes.
It'd be really neat if we were able to customize the interior to the point of changing the layout, though that's probably too much to ask for.

And since the ship is, supposedly, our motherbase, no basebuilding either.

Why not?
If you upgrade the accuracy of the weapons and your radar, maybe an orbital strike to clean the way?
If you upgrade your habitation quarter size, having some allied mobs on the map?
If you install an cyber-dock, having some robots on your side?
More seriously, if the game aim on exploration, you can have an HUGE place for improvements to explore hostile landscape : High pressure hull, underwater capacities, turrets to keep away the hostile fauna...
Basically, the SciFy litterature give a lot of advices of what is possible to do with a spaceship to explore unknow and probably very hostile places.

To be honest, I'll just be ecstatic if we get to use the airlock again and not teleport onto a station.
