The wikia has very little info on them and I wondered if anyone knew if there had been a mention in any media or by any of devs? They are described as a 'primitive, but sapient' race who are now fully assimilated into the Qun. Now, does this mean they are a full blown separate species* in the sense that dwarves, elves, humans and qunari are? Or does it mean that they are a race in the way that Rivaini, Ferelden, and Orelsians are 'races'?

Its quite possible that it doesn't really matter because we're never going to actually meet one, but if we are heading North for the next game then they might well pop up.

* I could well be using the term species wrong in a scientific sense - but given its a fantasy setting I'm not sure exactly what term is best :)

Separate race is what I think. I picture a race looking very ape like, because they are native to the jungles there.

Since we're going north, they might pop up.  They were only ever mentioned in an interview with David Gaider, IIRC, so who knows?

They are beings that must appear in the next game.

"The Fex" is a wrong answer in the Quizquisition.

Otherwise, they don't exist.

Nobody really knows because there are hardly any direct references to them. It is also something I have wondered about for several years now. Bioware may decide they aren't important and drop them or they may decide to tie them into their story later on. I personally like to think they are the scaled ones mentioned in DAI Codexes and look like those reptilian creatures you occasionally see as ancient paintings on stones or walls in DAI. I'm probably wrong but.......Sorry I can't find that pic at the moment.

Words always come from somewhere. In this case, it's Latin. Fex is a Latin suffix meaning 'maker', hence 'panis' bread, 'panifex' bread maker or baker.

Though it's also an alternative form of 'faex', which literally means a piece of s***.

We don't even know if the Fex exist anymore.

I think David gaider talked about it one time during a game convention or something , maybe shortly after DA2.

Another race living in the north.

But we haven't heard anything since then , so it was probably an idea ending up in a trashcan.

As far as I know, this is the only information that has been released on the Fex, from a 2010 PAX interview with David Gaider.

In this video (seems to be broken) from PAX Prime in 2010, starting at 6:15 David answers a question about sentient races in Thedas (transcribed for convenience)...

Question: Are there more sentient races in the Dragon Age universe than the ones we know about?

Answer: Uh yes! Yes, there are. For instance, there is a race that was native to Par Vollen when the Qunari arrived that we have not shown yet. They're called the Fex, F-E-X, and uh, you don't see them outside of Par Vollen very much. But yeah, there definitely are, and maybe there's even some beyond Thedas [mischievous look]!

Although no mention of them has ever been made again. With the natives of par-Vollen being human

David posted about the fex once. I think they're animals of some sort (they're not a humanoid species IIRC).

I'm sure it's still on the forums somewhere.

They might be those lizard-men we see paintings of in Emerald Graves and who might be the Scaled Ones that are mentioned by  the ancient Dwarves and very well be part of the werid conspiracy between lizard man vs moon people

This is what I'm betting on. Lizardmen.

Though for real, if they start burning down barns in the middle of conversations with NPCs they gon get sat down.
