vegetable life forms are very well known for their ability to adapt, reshape and regrow themselves. ergo vegetable/humanoid/alien thing could be asked to be bi/straight/gay/transexual/human/asari/hanar/ or whatever fringe thing you like. it would be to mass effect what was fisto the pleasure bot was to fallout.
what if you could romance a vegetable/alien humanoid thing

You want plant people I guess it would be interesting. Destroy meatbags in the name of mother tree.

In b4 the lock!
why should it be locked? plant people are a common sci-fi thing precisely because they're so very diverse so a lot of things can be done with them. anything from mind control, to to shape shifting, cloning, healing, poisoning, you name it and the plant person speciies can probably do it. plant person LI makes perfect sense.

I'm up for this. Even better if the character and dialogue is written by Stephenie Meyer

I remember proposing something similar in a tread about how to have a monogendered male race, to counterpart the Asari. It would be quite interesting having an antrophomorphic plant race, with or without romance un there.

Wha....? I don't even. Okay I'll try to explain. Plants do not possess self initiated locomotion. Animals do. It is the fundamental distinction between the groups. If it's humanoid, it's a biped. If it's a biped it can move away from its current position of its on volition. If it can do that, it's an animal.
Such movement requires energy on a scale photosynthesis cannot support. The reaction is not fast enough and does not yield enough energy. It is why the closest example of locomotion in plant life are predatory plants like fly traps. Digesting the insects provides a surplus of energy that allows for rare bursts of rapid movement.
In other words, for the tree people to move like we do, they would need to be voraciously predatory. Far more so than animals. Leaf lady isn't gonna screw you. She's gonna eat you. And not in the fun way.
