I've been working on bringing support for xbox controllers to windows versions of ME3 in MP. I've got a beta available that has most things implemented with some bugs you can avoid for the most part as long as you host.

To install this mod you need Mod Manager: http://me3tweaks.com/tools/modmanager
Additionally you'll need the mod: http://me3tweaks.com.../showcase?id=16

Extract the mod into the mods/ directory of mod manager.

First Time Setup:

Versions:

0.4 - Adds xbox textures to UI

0.5x - Makes UI work off host

BUGS:

  • Entering settings menu and changing anything will crash the game. Seems to be related to turning "useconsolecontrols" and keybinds. Not sure how to fix this. SP variant also has this issue. Without enabling console control variable I am unsure how you will be able to deal with this.
  • Can't rotate character in appearance menu off host.

I have to somehow get a hold of the Xbox 360 version of this game so I can extract the HUD for MP from it.

Right now all of the MP menu interfaces work with some bugs we will be working out. The actual match doesn't work because the interface is missing from the PC version.

I don't need the discs, I need the ISOs. Essentially a ripped version. Sounds piratey but its the only way to get the .XXX files (.pcc). I don't have an Xbox so its not like getting them actually does anything for me. And EA knows how much money they made on me from the DLC in this game.

Specifically I need the MP ISO. That's disc 2 right?

Another thing. Some time back when I was gaming on PS3, I used an adapter so that I could use the Xbox 360 controller on the PS3. This adapter has some negative feedback but I didn't experience ANY issues with it. I literally just synced it to the 360 controller and popped the adapter on my PS3 and voila! I was playing ME3 on PS3 with the Xbox 360 controller. There were no issues at all, it worked perfectly and it was seamless. 

 

I know what you are creating is different but the reason I bring it up is that it may be a good reference since, I could be wrong, the company that created this may have public files on how they did this or coded this, etc. Figured it would be helpful. 

 

If your solution works like this adapter, you won't find any issues from Xbox console gamers as it works the same as if they were on the console.

Controllers work fine on ME3 (well, Xbox ones asaik), but there is no interface support. This will essentially make it so console users can still enjoy master race but be use their controllers.

 

Biggest issues I have isolated are:

  • Getting MP HUD (don't know how we will get it from xbox yet since we don't have a working convreter for .xxx files)
  • Handling text input (we have to edit disassembly of swf files which is terribly tedious)

On MP is there a power wheel on Xbox? Or just the buttons?

If so we may have a working MP HUD already. Consumables screen is being a pain in the ass (where is it loading from biowar)

But otherwise we have most done. Character appearance breaks it cause there is no keyboard. On Xbox it opens a system menu and returns text. On PC there is no such thing. And for some reason ABXY are mapped to their actual PC keys.

Yes. LB Y and RB are powers. LT is scope & RT is fire/charge.

Well auto aim is on. We can make it able to be turned off. I've used both Controller and PC controls and its wildly harder to aim IMO on a Controller. Also can't run and turn. Maybe camera.

Due to the complexity of this mod it will have to be only a Mod Manager mod since we can't add a DLC.

Thats just how it was defaulted. It's a simple Coalesced setting so we can turn it off. It's going to take some ingenuity to make this work with ModMaker mods.

Finally have a use for patch1 though so thanks biovar. Most settings we have are literally from the Xbox Coalesced.bin file. Yes console users. You have a Coalesced.win file. And lots of .XXX files

If you're an Xbox user and want to help if you can make a (good) video showing all interfaces, how buttons work, and stuff that'd be great. Like rotate char in appearance, use all parts of HUD (and what makes them do that), to purchasing packs, pretty much anything interface related to MP that would be really handy. All I find are gameplay vids and they waste lots of time.

Like for example, does the challenges window have L scrollbar like the store does? Small stuff like that we need to know.

So PC has auto-aim *ahem* "feature" installed too? Thought every PC gamer said this wasn't true and one of the true perks of playing ME3mp on PC...

It has auto aim but its off. I turned it on once and it was annoying as hell. But that's because a mouse is much more precise than a Controller in terms of fine aim.

The setting is not available in the UI, its a Coalesced edit. It's like buseautoaim or something.

Okay so on Xbox, how is voice chat handled. Is it automatic? Push to talk? Voice detection? BioInput does not seem to define a chat key like PC.

It happens automatically.  It detects if you have a headset plugged into your controller, and lights up the speaker icon accordingly.  If you are in a private party chat, the speaker is still lit up, but you have to go into xbox menu and select ingame chat for anyone to hear you ingame.  All Xbox chat is voice detection, there is no push to talk button

Lets get one things straight. Auto aim does not help anyone. Ever. Quite the opposite in fact. It's the bane of console ME3mp gaming worldwide. Someone at BioWare messed up royaly by not giving us the option to turn it off. Surprised many on these forum haven't complained to BioWare about it to fix this in a patch.

Don't worry terminator, I am looking into making a setting to turn that on or off. No guarantees.

 

Good news though, I just found the MP HUD. Had to look in the frame code rather than the startup code... and I found this trinket:

timerText.timerTextPulse.timerTextMC.timerText.text = "4:20!";

This might explain some flying krogans and terrible talon merc code.

 

After looking into the code I think I can optimize the MP interface a bit for PC. Maybe I will make a TV mode (so its like xbox) and a monitor mode (where its smaller, like pcs buttons). I just played a round with a controller, and I died on wave 1 bronze. Cause I'm a real scrub with a controller. Without auto aim I missed almost every sniper shot.

 

I am trying to find a button combo that will work well for voice chat, since on PC it can use a button. It can be a combo of buttons or just one. I don't know of any. Maybe the stick click?
