I wonder what the popular opinion on it would be had Bioware not boo boo'd on it's recoil. This is a video by a BSNer who shows what was meant for it.

 

That was not really what was intended since IIRC he just switched the values of recoil and zoomrecoil.

 

What actually happened was they multiplied the Mattock recoil value by 1.5 and left zoomrecoil alone.  It made the fact that the gun recoils more in cover than zoomed out of cover more apparent, although the Mattock actually has this behavior as well, but hidden with fade.

I can't really think of any AR except the Saber where the scope would make sense, but then again I prefer the thermal scope on the Saber for some wall hax. The normal AR scope is kind of strange.

 

I actually tried that a few times, and surprisingly - I liked it.

I don't remember that, but many of the variables for the Harrier seemed to be directly copied from the Mattock.

:? uhhh... pls tell me you're joking.  The Harrier is hands down, without question, indisputably, and by far the best all-around AR in the game.  period.  Oh and btw, if you're not using the harrier with extended barrel, extended mag, and AP ammo (need the double hits), you're doing it wrong.  My first ever gold speedrun attempt was with this weapon as a newb, and I still almost hit sub-20.

 

Nicely put! The dps is good so you dont need any damage mods. You dont need scope either cause you are gona fight up close. That leaves you with extra ammo which is good.

Well, the extended barrel is the damage barrel, but you're right that you probably don't need it, you could take a scope or stability instead if you really wanted to (but you really don't need those either, so why not take damage).  The key, IMO, is the AP ammo and the extended mag.  It allows you to 1-clip an Atlas that's down to armor (each shot fired through the canopy will register two hits due to AP IV), and reliably take out groups of three or four mooks in a single clip (need a few headshots tho).  If you use another ammo type, you'll be pigeon-holed into taking an AP mod, which will cost you the damage barrel, will do reduced damage on wall/cover hax, and will NOT yield double hits against eligible boss units (e.g. Atlas, Scion, Brute etc).

I reserve it for kits where I'll be visiting ammo boxes anyway for grenades.  So the Batsol with HVB and fire ammo for cheese, and the Demolisher with extended barrel and AP ammo.

My BatSent also uses it, with a CSMG sidearm. I also use it on the Demolisher because of Supply Pylon. And that's it, I just can't justify it anywhere else. I'm not even entirely happy with it on those classes, but if I didn't use it there, I wouldn't use it anywhere, and then what is the point of having it?

 

Well to be honest i find this gun boring to play with, but i respectfully disagree. It's also good with destroyer soldier, human soldier because of the damage buff. It's also good with marksman and hunter mode characters. Batarians specced for spare ammo with thermal clip pack gear (or barrage upgrade), and then i almost never run out of ammo. All you need is thermal clip gear. That gives +30% extra ammo. Maybe a stab mod but on PC its not really hard to handle its recoil. Plus theres the boring TGI or other turian characters. They also rock with the harrier. Actually with thermal clip gear and maybe a stab mod almost every character is good with it. if you have no problem running to ammo boxes, any character is good with it. or vice versa, the gun is good with any character. The only drawback the gun has for me is its low reserve ammo, nothing else you can't handle on a pc.

 

But as i said, i don't like the gun, not because of the damage output but more because i find it boring to play with.

For platinum (solos especially) it's needed, especially on maps like Dagger. You can go with extended barrel and piercing mod, but I believe extended mag and extended barrel with AP IV is the optimal set-up for the Harrier.

It's not that the Harrier's default mag size is problematic, but what else would you equip, if you don't take the extended mag (16 additional rounds on a 20  rounds clip is a huge improvment, by the way) ? I assume that EB + piercing mod, EB + Omni Blade or EB + ULM are good options with some builds, but in most cases mag size + extended barrel + AP rounds is the way to go.

Well piercing mod + extended barrel + warp ammo does more damage against barriers, armor and health on any kit, and same gun setup with incendiary does even more damage vs armor. But it's true that the gain is not huge. I'll give the extended mag a try neverheless.

My guess would be that if you're taking scope, you're going EM & Scope. I really can't see it any other way. EM is huge on the Harrier. And extra accuracy helps with wasted ammo. So huge and accurate is the name of the game.

It does more damage per shot, but it does WAY less damage per second. Do the math, you'll be surprised at just how stupidly high is the dps gain by using extended mag. On any weapon, pretty much.
