That was the trilogy. Shepard was a space marine and Spectre, mostly sent on specific assignments where lines had already been drawn between friendlies, hostiles, neutrals.

New galaxy, new protag, different goals. Do you really think they should go in guns-a-blazing when they enter new worlds and meet new species?

I see this as a perfect opportunity to introduce some codex about approaching unknown life forms for the first time. Learning how to communicate with them, figuring out which ones are animals (that might be domesticated) and which function at a level to be treated as people, etc. I can certainly a need to capture specimens for study, so I see loads of opportunities for nonlethal means of defense here.

Yah, but then we'd spend half of the game trying to talk to something that'll never talk to us.  Talk about over-inflating a game.  Being told is one thing, doing it is quite another.

Hmm... what I would like BioWare to take from Metal Gear Solid.  I want them to make the game they want to make and not include Flavour of the Month mechanics that some other game has that people think is good or popular, for not everyone feels that way and I personally rather BioWare focus on what they are good at.

but they aren't doing this. The combat from ME2 & ME3 is a Gears of War clone but somehow worse than Gears of War. Bio should have a combat system that caters to what's in their game. You have classes that have powers, that should be using stealth, vehicles and so on and so forth. This is what they should be trying to make.

I'm not quite sure how you arrived at that conclusion. It depends on how it all is done, does it not?

Well, yah.   But if they drop us in a world like they did with DA:I and said, "Hey, we're not sure what you talk to and which things are animals, but here's how you figure out which is which!" I think I would've quit the game right there and then.

In other words, it would've added a meta-game, an un-fun one at that, on top of a game.

The one and only important thing from this Metal Gear that has a place in the ME world is the Mother Base. Building a colony, finding materials, hiring experts, having our own R/D center... All about that was in one of my older message long before the first leaks about MEA. We are in space dammit, why can't we help a colony to rise!

I want Fulton balloons that can actually lift an elcor just to hear the elcor's reaction. I'd probably Fulton a volus or two as well, and maybe a vorcha...and probably a krogan (except I'd run away before the krogan had a chance to kill me for it).

Ahem, more seriously, I did like building up Mother Base and the base defense mission I just did last night. There's also some storytelling stuff that I liked (putting aside the various eccentricities and quirks of MGS), and I generally found the side quests and main quests fun because there are often multiple ways to go about accomplishing your goals instead of one set path.

Well if the creators are inspire by the mechanics of MGSV I wouldn't bat an eye if they took one of the game's mechanics and expand on it, but I don't want them to become world of warcraft where they steal other mmo's ideas. I want Mass Effect be a good Mass Effect... But I wouldn't say no to a Star Wars Republic Commando game using the Fox Engine using similar mechanics of Phantom Pain but a Squad base. It's a good fit since Kal Skirata is basically making his own little army of refugee of clone deserters and renegade Jedi. Make Drew write it. Love his Darth Bane novels. That is about Anti Jedi you can get other than Traviss Anti-Jedi rhetoric. Don't know any other good Mandalorian writers. It's just such a shame Hideo Kojima spend so much time on that engine it's getting shafted after one game.
