That's why Solas is so cranky.
Also suspicious. Not enough buggery going around, the Veil needs to be torn down.
When i am sitting infront of my computer and playing the newest content, or just replaying old content and i see something new or figure out something. Well at that moment i do think i am an expert. And then i log onto the forum, or youtube and i am just another average player trying to understand the world of Thedas. I am very interested in the lore though. I always read the codex, the books, comics, got both The World of Thedas volumes. So a fan yes, not an expert.
I love Dragon Age lore, but I'm no expert.
no

At one time yes, but DA:I took all the things we thought were true, and told us we were wrong, it was Solas, always Solas and nothing but Solas. Except for the part where it will it all turn out to be Mythal behind everything.
Absolutely not!
I have read almost every single codex entry across the three games, but I have never read the books, and as I understand it, there is a lot of information in those books.

Well, to be considered an expert at something a person needs to have spent at least 10,000 hours on said thing. So...yeah I guess so.

No u don't only weirdos believe that.
I wasn't serious.
I'm pretty knowledgeable but tend to tune out a bit at the more abstract, arcane, mystical and speculative stuff. Though I've got a bit more interested in that sort of thing lately because its become more directly relevant to the actual story in the game.
Being knowledgeable about the lore doesn't include knowing every odd theory fans come up with, no matter how many are convinced of their correctness. I've read a few whose evidence I consider about equal to the Maker's, and anyway fan theories are not part of the lore. It means knowledge of the facts as presented in the games and the books.I'm pretty knowledgeable but tend to tune out a bit at the more abstract, arcane, mystical and speculative stuff. When there were fewer source materials, like the stolen throne + the calling + Dragon Age Origins, i could consider myself to be well acquainted with the setting.
However as more games have been released, codex entries have been rewritten or added (I couldn´t bare reading the same DAO codex entry only slightly tweaked in DA2). So my interest for reading codex entries ingame is actually quite low, unless they are something new i have interest in.
New published materials like comics and the 2 world of thedas source-books makes all the background even harder to nail down. You would need every single one of those in order to have all the details.
I´m going to use an example i am familiar with - Grand Duke Gaspard de Chalons. In DAI you get to interact with him with the inquisitor, but you don´t really get to know him - at most you get some idea of what his political agenda is. You need to read the masked empire to get a better picture of him, but even that is incomplete if you don´t play the game and see some scenarios: how he reacts being chosen emperor, or how he reacts being sentenced to death. In WoT 2 there is a cool bit about Gaspard´s past that adds depth to his backstory with Celene before the game starts, so you need to read that if you want more details.
So in order to get to know the duke the information is all over the place. Same thing with Loghain or Maric. In comparison you can get to know Alistair or Morrigan very well by just playing DAO, pretty much every character trait is represented in the game.
I thought I was reasonably well informed...or at least good at finding answers...until it came to a particular scenario that I can't seem to solve confidently.
If anyone wants to help, I posted it in a different section of the forum. Here's a link.
Thanks!

Gods no, no where near. I'm a fan, who has seen a few things, but knows what I think I know is only a smmmaaalll piece of the puzzle and there is likely a ton of stuff I missed. That's fine, as a player, I think I know enough to play a well informed denizen of Thedas, without knowing much of the hidden lore, the stuff people piece together from snippets here and there. I'm happy with that level of knowledge
Short Answer? Ancient Elves did it
Everything can be explained with elves
