Hey everyone,

First of all, as far as I can see there hasn't been a topic about this one yet so I wagered it was safe to make a seperate topic about it.

What I actually noticed tonight after starting a solo Nightmare run (faced Venatori) was that I could no longer evade the gladiator's shield charge, at least not without the help of an ability. I haven't really been active in the MP department lately after the most recent patch release, but I was very certain I could do this before. Personally I consider the gladiator the most annoying unit to encounter, so when I had just started MP a couple of months back I closely studied their behaviour and eventually concocted a simple but wonderful plan to deal with them:

1. let them charge

2. run away until the charge is over

3. force them to swing their sword

4. and strike them as they're swinging their sword (they're vulnerable to attacks this way)

I suspect the new patch changed their charge speed in a way that it gives them an extra speed buff just when they're about to finish their charge, making it impossible to outrun it.

So my question is: has anyone else noticed this too? Is there another way (WITHOUT the help of spell abilities) to deal with these pests? I mean, right now my fight with a gladiator goes like this:

1. I get charged and knocked down

2. As I try to get up the gladiator successfully lands a hit on me, knocking me down yet again (in rare situations I DO manage to evade this by regaining control over my character just in the nick of time and run away)

3. As I recover from the second knockdown the gladiator has already set in motion his second charge, knocking me down for a third time

This just went on and on and on until at some point I just gave up and went afk as I heard the kettle was boiling.

I have peace with every unit in this game but right now the gladiator is my only true nemesis I'd rather not face.

-Blocks and Slash

-Dive Roll

-Anything stun or knockdown

I think bioware wants everyone to have knockdown mitigation now

Working as intended.

The trick is to be far enough away from them when they start charging, so you can still outrun them. Some abilities can also stop the charge (Charging Bull and Devour for example) and there were times when I din't get knocked down while spamming Dragon Rage on charging Gladiators, even though it didn't interrupt them. I believe there are certain points in ability animations where you can't get knocked out of it, thereby granting you brief knockdown immunity.

Once you get into a cycle of being knocked down, especially if there is two of them you are in trouble.  (That is if you are playing a class that has no way to block their shield attacks.)

I really enjoy the moments when I get myself out of position dealing with 1 at first, then theres 2 and even 3 on me. I try to avoid  but every now and again it happens. Abuse ensues untill I can manage to catch them after they strike. Hilarious when it happens.

Frost and Fear is helpful agains them as well.

Or use abilities/weapons that detonate enemies on kill (like Bitter Axe) and kill them close to the shield guys, saves a lot of time and trouble and crawling on the ground :D

Creature movement speed is 0.400 on NM/HB and 0.250 on Peril

(140% and 125% respectively)

Thanks for your responses guys.

I suppose I'll go do some experimenting with those skills that will at least interrupt the knock down. Worst case scenario I'll need to sacrifice a skill for say combat roll. I don't like it, but it's better to be alive than being a burden to the group.

And knowing my experience with RNG... that amulet will never drop for me.

RNG hates most of us :D

But combat roll is very nice not only for your case. Use it to flank enemies or attack them from behind. Recovery from anything :)
