Between all 3 games, if you could choose 1 character to be a DA4 squadmate (NPC or previous squadmate) who would you like it to be?

Cass or Dorian

Merill because of her VA Eve Myles, Isabela because she's a riot, Sera because she just keeps getting better and the Mabari from DAO because he was awesome

I'd say Josephine, but she can't be a companion since she is a noncombatant.

I'd say Nate, but it wouldn't make much sense for him to be there (that, and my Aedan is very possessive and wouldn't being willing to share him).

 

So, uh, Shale, I guess! Can't think of anyone else I'd like back more who would also make sense being present. Though, I don't know if she'd still be there ten years later; plus, she can be dead in some people's games --unless that would just get retconned like everything else does.

 

Unless this isn't limited to previous companions, in which case, I'd just go with Caladrius because I adore him. Problem is, he could be dead, too.

I don't like returning squad mates at all when there is a new protagonist. The player has a history with Varric for example but the protagonist doesn't and it just doesn't make sense imo.

Oh, really? That's great to hear! I'd thought that since the player has the chance to fight her at the Anvil, she'd be "dead" just like Leliana--and others--could have been.

 

I wouldn't even object to getting her old dwarf self as a companion, especially since it'd give that little quest of hers a conclusion and make for a truly refreshing return of a character. If she was her old golem self, it might just be exactly as it was in DAO. I prefer returning characters to change, as long as it's written well (for instance, I think Leliana's "change" was really poorly done, and Varric's "I have only one best friend; everyone else is just a coworker to me"--in the base game--wasn't too pleasant, either.)

This it's just awkward and makes me wish we were playing the protag they were friends with.

Scout Harding for new/old squadmate! I would definitely make a dwarven character if she was a romance option for males. Who else will the Inquisition send to track down Solas and any new allies they might need? 

 

Otherwise I would be interested in Tallis from Mark of the Assassin DLC in DA2 - yay Felicia Day! Given Bioware's ability to get a legitimately questionable allied force (Cerberus in ME2) and turn them into another horde of cliched villains (Cerberus in ME3) I would bet good money that Tallis will be Tal-Vashoth and the Qunari utterly unsympathetic within 15 minutes of starting the next game (sorry Stenashock).
