What's the deal with Bioware's new IP?

I hope it's ok to put this thread on the ME:A forum, but the off topic forum looks locked/dead.

I've been wondering this for a while now. I first heard about this new IP after ME3 and that Casey Hudson was working on it. Eventually we hear about this game called Shadow Realms (which looked lame honestly), but then apparently there was another IP they're working on, and then Casey Hudson left, then Shadow Realms got canned, but apparently they're still working on something new. However is it something they started after Shadow Realms or is the same one they've been working on for a few years now? I just don't know what's going on anymore.

I'm really hoping to hear something about this thing sometime in the next couple of years. Bioware could really use a new IP. Not counting their MMO, it's just been Dragon Age and Mass Effect for the past 8 years, and Mass Effect feels like it's just continuing because it's familiar and profitable. I'm still waiting for a brand new world for Bioware to take us in.

No idea. There's nothing to talk about and no place to talk about it.

They haven't said a word about it, but it is apparently still in the works. David Gaider was shifted over to the new IP after DA:I released.

There is a Secret IP Twitter thread in the DA:I Non-spoiler forum.

The only thing we know about it is in a tweet they said it is contemporary, which means "belonging to or occurring in the present". So chances are like how Dragon Age is inspired from the past and Mass Effect the far future, the new IP will be inspired by more modern times.

We'll probably learn more after Mass Effect: Andromeda comes out. We know there are many people working on it right now. Chances are it will come out between Mass Effect: Andromeda and the next Dragon Age game.

I was actually really curious about Shadow Realms. In the four minutes of game-play I watched, it looked somewhat interesting to me. The girl with the knifes reminded me of the Rogue from Dragon Age. I would have also liked to see the romance options. When I found out it was cancelled, my first thought was, Aw that looked interesting, too. Especially sense half of the game would have taken place on modern Earth.

Where did you read that? I don't think that would really make sense, because have zero info on what this new game would even be. If there's no announcement, then there's technically nothing to officially cancel. I mean, unless BioWare is closing up its doors or just deciding that it's going to live on Dragon Age, Mass Effect and Star Wars forever, it has to make something new one of these days.

Gonna guess they're mistaking it with Shadow Realms.

Unless I'm mistaken, the game was basically a co-op multiplayer that was apparently going to be released in an episodic format. Not sure how well that sort of thing would even work. Episodic games don't strike me the type to really gel with the whole multiplayer model. Anyway, I doubt there would be any serious companion interaction, let alone romance.

Just out of curiosity, what makes you think it is next up on the agenda?

I was under the impression that Andromeda will be the next game to release, followed by the new IP, since they've teased Andromeda more and have given it its own subforum. I don't follow Twitter, so I'm wondering if I missed a dev statement somewhere that the new IP was their next release.

I think you need to read what Hanako said again? You two have the exact same theory. Mass Effect Andromeda -> New IP -> next Dragon Age. :)

It's likely a shooter.  BioWare had a job posting for a gameplay designer with experience in first or third-person shooters with cover mechanics, and the job was at their Edmonton location.

With ME now being made in Montreal, that has to be for the Secret IP.

Which makes me both excited and concerned.

A shooter-type game taking place in contemporary times, with Bioware-style companions? It'll either be glorious or "well. . .the gameplay might be good. . ." for me.

EDIT: Also there is a job posting for writers in Edmonton as well, which I've been eying for awhile now. . .

I don't know anything either, but i'm curious.

If the game takes place in modern times, then i'm not sure if i'm interested. I could be, since it's bioware, but I know that if the new IP came from any other developer, it wouldn't interest me in the slightest.

A cyberpunk setting? Competing again with CD Projekt? I've played my fair share of cyberpunk pen'n'paper and I guess I'd dig it.

Still kept tightly under wraps and likely still in preproduction, assuming EA does what it did with DA:I and give em a proper dev cycle a new IP RPG is probably at least 3 to 4 years out now,  seeing as how tresspasser was said to be the last DA:I DLC. We probably wont see a word about it in any official capacity for at least half that time.

After the amount of bitching on this forum, I sincerely hope it is a transgender dating sim.

                                                                                                    <<<<<<<<<<()>>>>>>>>>>

And so we have the last "hole" from DA:I plugged in.

Trespasser DLC is part of the DA:I game that was cut out to milk the players for more money(IMO). No wonder many players posted their discontent with Corypheus  as a poor villain.

This new IP is indeed tightly wrapped... If the story does take place in modern times,  it's a game I'm unlikely to get.

David Gaider mentioned on Twitter he was about to start reviewing submissions, a task I expect he approaches with both trepidation and glee.

CDPR have Mike Pondsmith on-board though... competing directly with that would be a big ask IMO.

No, it's apparently a contempoary setting, not the future.

Really? I mean we always went on making and adding own stuff custom rules but we used that basic setting and ruleset and we always had a blast. Nice to hear - I'll start saving for a Kerenzikov booster right away!

It's actually not very far from contemporary.
