Fans have wanted Bioware to tackle a contemporary style RPG for a long time. It'd be refreshing and I think they'd be a good team for that setting.

After the release of Mass Effect Andromeda, 2017 maybe we'll start to hear from that, perhaps at E3 2016 some info beyond this...

Contemporary could also be set in the 18th and 19th century.

Perhaps a steam-punk setting?

How about a spy game? BioWares version of Alpha Protocol?

I love the idea, but my first thought is that Bioware would have to approach gameplay mechanics in a completely new way for them. So far, I don't think stealth has ever been a strong suit of theirs.

I'd love to see them take a crack at an early 20th century/late 19th century setting

Hmmm, before the ME series, people were sceptical because they never tried a shooter mechanic in their RPGs. Might have taken them 2 games to optimize it but I'd say they got really good at it by now. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

This is true. Far be it from me to discourage innovation.

I'd like to see Bioware, do a pirate or an old west RPG.

Now I want a full-on 20s rpg, with flappers and Art Deco everything, gangsters with their Tommy guns, and lots of ridiculous, Baccano shenanigans.

I can't read this threads title without it being in his voice now.  Thanks.

I'd love to see BioWare try and tackle a contemporary setting, perhaps the aforementioned superhero/superpowers RPG idea or a modern 'spy' RPG in the same vein as Alpha Protocol. Both done with the usual BioWare flare of character customisation and a strong supporting cast of party members and support characters.

It's written by Gaider, so that knocks the likelihood of it being good down a few pegs right off the bat.

Am I the only who thinks the new IP is modern day themed?

I believe it will be more of an 18th-19th century setting.

But that's just my own speculation.

No, given how much Shadow Realms was pushed before the plug was pulled, I think it'd be reasonable that the creative leads would want to keep the setting. However, BioWare don't have a history of successfully playing outside of old fantasy and sci-fi. I wouldn't be surprised if Shadow Realm's failure might have discouraged them slightly.

Now that you mention it, I wouldn't mind a Victorian setting at all.

No, I do as well. A superhero modern, though.

Can't say that I'm interested in a superhero RPG but if anybody could get me to enjoy that genre it would be Bioware. I guess I just associate comic books and superheroes with a lot of tropes that I dislike.

I've said this in several other threads, but I'm really hoping for urban fantasy. I'd like a universe that's a bit lighter. Whatever we get, I'm really happy that
David Gaider is on this project. He's an excellent writer and I love what he did with DA.

Not a big superhero fan, either. I would be OK with giving a BioWarian interpretation a shot, though, yeah.

A single player adaptation of the Funcom/EA "The Secret World" could be very interesting. At least the idea if not the setting.

A cyberpunk setting? Competing again with CD Projekt? I've played my fair share of cyberpunk pen'n'paper and I guess I'd dig it.

Yeah, like the Witcher and DA comparison wasn't bad enough already. It's funny how the developers are on friendly terms and congratulate each other, and yet the fans can't stop dogging and comparison the games constantly, even when the game mechanics, gameplay, RPG experience are totally different. The only thing they have in common is the medieval setting.

I thought Shadow Realms was officially cancelled after poor pre-reviews/receptions at some game expo? it sounded like the people who played it found it kind of hum-drum and boring over all, the gimmick of "playing the big bad" against other players was also kind of meh it seems, as it sounded a lot like Evolution. I could be mistaken though, but a game thats almost entirely focused around a multiplayer aspect Triple A or not just doesn't seem all that interesting to the intended sci/fantasy crowd.

I don't think Shadow Realms was even in a playable state, let alone in a state to be played and reviewed by critics. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a BioWare Austin dev say that it was VERY early in development and was announced way before it should have been and was already on shaky ground when it was announced.

Why not an espionage action RPG? Alpha Protocol was almost good and I would like to see BioWare take that torch and run with it.
