it is common sense that Voli can be a great help to a team (objectives, debuffing, etc.)

 

 

but "people keep saying" that damage-dealing-wise the voli usually don't keep up with the teammates.

 

It is understandable since they are lacking good weapon passives and if you (for example) compare the Volus Adept to other Adepts such as the Asari Adept,  you see that things like Warp/Throw etc. are just missing.

 

 

I recently played the protector though,  and the DPS was not soo bad (because of ammo- fire explosions and heavier weapons, thanks to the Orbs).  I'd recommend the Raider for more close-range punch or the lighter Wraith for more accuracy and better cooldown.

For gold-PUGS it even was enough for a permanent first rank.

 

 

What do you think and which strategies/Kits would you recommend for those who want to deal the highest possible DPS,   aside from healing ?

On my merc, protector, and engineer, I only put rank 3 or 4 in shield boost. Since I play using the gates mostly, and using shield boost mainly for objectives or teamwork.
This way I can max out passives, improving deeps. But these voli always score well for me. In fact, they often score better than I think they should for the skill and performance I exhibit.

While my adept is pretty much never used anymore since it was built for plat Rio box of shame tactics. Eww. The shame THE SHAME!

You spec the volus, like whatevha man.....and then you put on the reegar with ir4.  And presto, max dps volus ensured!

Spec him for maximum shield boost restoration to kill Swarmers.

As previous posters said, the engineer aka the double debuffer is OK in terms of DPS, despite mediocre passives. Of course, as other voluses, he needs a strong gun to shine.

Well on the sentinel, the vanguard and the adept I feel the only way to give them high dps is the reegar. And they get pretty amazing thanks to their survivability.

The engineer has in my opinion more liberty for his DPS. For instance an acolyte-inendiary ammo coupled with a high dps weapon vs armor is quite good. You will oneshot both shielded and unshielded mooks with the acolyte-mine combo and for the bosses you have a nice 45% debuff that you can enjoy with any gun you like ( I prefer the csmg or the wraith).

Engineer probably can get the highest burst damage, Protector with Reegar and IA probably has the most consistent over a wider range of situations.

 

For the Engineer you will need a better gun than the CSMG to get max DPS.

I use the CSMG on the engineer, the particle rifle on the mercenary, the Piranha on the cannonball.  I haven't played the adept in over a year, but have used the arc pistol on it.  I tend to cheese it with fire ammo.

Off-Topic: I believe in English the plural of Latin words is made by following the native English rules, whereas in German (and probably the other Romance languages) it follows the Latin conjugation (for example bonus->bonuses in English and Bonus->Boni in German).

 

On-Topic: Volus suck so hard there is only one possible build for high DPS - Shield boost spam + Incendiary double extra cheese Reegar. And now I'm going to wash the bad taste off my mouth...
