In mass effect 1 is it possible to pass on the romance in me1 and start in me2 instead?

Yeah, of course, just be careful not to get 'ninjamanced' by Liara. If she shows interest you have to turn her down pretty strictly for the romance not to stick if I remember correctly.

The reson i'm asking is I'm about to go through mass effect 1 to start the romance in mass effect 2 with Thane ! every time I try Liara traps me lol.
