Alright so, I've been using even ground on my current playthrough. I'm like halfway...ish? Finished the winter palace, haven't done grey wardens. Thing is, I'm already level 19. Feels like I'm leveling way too fast.

So my question is this: would it be better to use both even ground and take it slow? Like if I turned them on at the beginning, would I still make it to level 20 - 22 in time for jaws?

That's a good question.  I have been leery of 'Take it Slow' purely because of JoH DLC.

Well even ground will make sure you level faster due to mobs being your level +. The beauty of this is even if you hit 27 you will get to face level 27 enemies. So my advice do not worry about it and enjoy playing.

It does balance out pretty well.  To get the achievements I started a new run with all of the trials turned on.  I was level 23 when I started JoH, having cleared out all of the non-DLC content accessible before the Arbor Wilds.

But i don't want to level faster. Leveling is fun. Sitting at the cap is boring. So I'd like to hit the cap as late as possible. But if the base game only gets me to like 18 or whatever I'm gonna have problems going into jaws.

Elite enemies and critters give boatloads of xp. Heavily reccommend turning on take it slow if you like to do all the content in most of the areas, as you'll level extremely quickly otherwise.

I think there is also a mod out there that cuts your xp gained by 30% but I'm not sure if it works with trespasser.

Agree - Even Ground without Take it Slow makes you level waaay too fast, imo.

H... how? Do you do all the sidequests?

I don't think you'd be too low a level even with take it slow on. I'm 19 on my current playthrough, have had take it slow on since skyhold, did most sidequest but left a bunch of rifts, and still have emerald graves, hissing wastes, emprise and arbor wilds left to do. Main thing i notice, is it balances out the codexes. If you click on every one and turn in creature research, it'll level you pretty fast.

Ya....?

If its on the map I gotta do it. Those be the rules. It's not like I'm doing side stuff first though. Trying to keep a balance between side and main.

Is this your first playthrough then? I could at least somewhat understand it then.

I couldn't even complete a single map in any playthrough. You don't even get great music to accompany you and your companions rarely talk. It's all just silent wandering with random battles (apart from the main/important side quests).

But this seems to be the type of questing you enjoy, and that's cool. Don't let me take away the fun you have.

Oh don't worry, It's compulsion that keeps me going. Not necessarily fun...

(After my 57th zone out/zone in to Hissing Wastes, ride mount, fight spiders, trying to get the Superior Prowler Armor with Short List in Canyon Market ...) TRUE THAT!

I don't know what the hell people are talking about when they say they don't hear any music. The soundtrack isn't always going, mind you, but I often get music specific to certain areas. The music on the Storm Coast is particularly sad.

But yeah, I would use Even Ground and Take it Slow in concert. It's too easy to overlevel in the base game; I imagine it would be even worse with Even Ground.

Oh, I had not thought of that. It will certainly help with my efforts to get one of these supposed "Special Deliveries".

Isn't the armor regularly sold in the Jaws of Hakkon shop superior to the vanilla short list stuff? Not counting the upgrades of course. Speaking of, unless you really wanted to max out a tank's armor rating why would you even try so hard to get such armor?

A) You need the NoForgiveness quote for context
B) Obviously, I did this before any DLC came out, including the Black Emporium, I had to farm my Great Bear Hide the hard way -- thank the Maker for the Golden Nug

CHEESE FOR THE STONE THRONE, SCRATCHES FOR THE NUG GOD.

(understand, that I had not actually completed a game up until Trespasser's release when I make the post below)

You'll be fine in time for Jaws, But it is Hard DLC no doubt. It made me rethink my Knight Enchanter Build and made me seriously consider reloading back to Skyhold (18 levels earlier) so I could go Rift Mage instead. Thankfully -- I didn't have to do that after I figured out my current build, but you get the point.

You have to do a lot more content, not all of it, but most, to reach the level milestones, but you can still over level the content even with those two Trials enabled. I'm 27, and I've just gotten to What Pride Wrought with only Jaws of Hakkon in my pocket as far as DLC.
