Now I would be fine with makeing former NPCs companions since we have not had a chance to get to know them as well as you do a full companion.

My inquisitor did not know Varric when they met.
But you the player knew him. And you got to learn all about him again.

What we learnt from Varric was new. There might have been some overlap, but everything else was new. And there was a lot there. So long as BioWare can do that with companions, I'll be happy taking them along again.

Sorry but it's going to happen. This is like asking for brand new characters for each book of a series.
Just no that anyone you can romance or kill can't be back on any teams.

What the player knows and the PC knows are two different things
That being said I don't except returning companions as companions this time around, major NPCs possibly

Wholeheartedly agree. Bioware has a penchant for screwing up returning party members, anyway and I wouldn't want to see my favorite characters get warped into someone different.

Only Cole can come back out of the dai team.

No they don't. Just because you don't like how Anders turned out does not mean it's a screw up.

That doesn't stop characters like Dorian from becoming a major NPC especially after Trespasser

A majority of them really couldn't come back as companions, a lot of them if the Trespasser DLC is indication of where things are headed, are busy doing things that the Inquisitor really has to handle themselves. About the only ones who can be much help or could return would be Sera, Bull, Cassandra (maybe) and that's about it. The rest are off being leaders or embracing a steady life.

I'm sorry, but the Leliana I knew to know and love in Origins was not the same Leliana I met in Inquisition.
Character development happens and they become different people who are interesting to interact with all over again. I'd personally love to see a Divine Victoria cameo to see how they've changed things in the South.

I personally liked him and saw nothing with the character! Technically, he was new as he was Vengence!!! lol

I love him... in a platonic way. He reminds me of my roommate in attitude and kinda sexuality

Amen to this thread.
I like the majority of the DAI companions, but I have no desire to see any of them in my party again. If they want to show up for a cameo, so long as it's appropriate and makes sense, that's fine. Hell, if Bioware makes any of them major NPC's, that's fine.
I don't want any of them in my party, period, end of discussion.

Couldn't care less about Anders and I actually thought his change was fine.

I did not say he could not. I'm just saying who could be part of the next teams.
Everyone from dao is out outside of origin side character who can't die.
Out of the daa characters only Anders, Orghrin, Justice and Nathan.
Then their's the witch hunt characters who could just come back as major npc.
Everyone but side characters from DA2 are now out except for Talis.
So that's 5 people at the least.

I don't have an issue with him ether. It's most people who says be ruin characters by bring them back onto another team use him as an example.

If we're going to Tevinter, Fenris being there is a pretty safe bet to be honest. Dorian too, though Dorian might be more of a Leliana type of character than an actual companion.
On the topic of Varric, it was pretty obvious he was going to be a part of DA:I even in DA2 cause... you know, he was there and the game starts after the events. Yeah, he could have just left but too many people were in love with the chest hair. ![]()
But since we going, presumably, to a whole new land of Tevinter where none of the games took place in we will most likely have a completely new cast of companions, apart from Fenrish which I think is a strong possibility.

I'm still baffled that it was Hawke in the Fade instead of Warden Carver/Bethany.

I think it's safe to say that Bull's out, due to that Trespasser possible ending (unless, of course, they ignore it). Dorian will likely be in DA4, since it's in Tevinter (he'd better), and there's always Cullen, who's been in all the games (but, then again, Trespasser showed us one possible way in which that will never happen).
Personally I loved having Varric around for the last 2 games and I'm hoping to see more of him in the future.

The Leliana I actively despised in Origins was nothing like the Leliana I met in Inquisition. It was a huge surprise, but I found myself liking her in Inquisition. She was more real and less of an obvious writers' pet. I was pleased.
Something tells me that she may finally be leaving the series, and from a purely selfish point of view, the timing couldn't be better. I'm in a good place with her. I like parting on good terms, and Inquisition allows me to do that.
I'm really, really hoping that they're done with Morrigan. I used to love her, but I've seen too much of her, and the luster is wearing off. Please, let this be her last appearance. I'd like to retain some good memories of the character.
As for Anders, I loved him in Awakening. He was totally different in DA2, but the changes made sense to me, and I loved him just as much there. But I was totally OK with him and my Hawke going off on their crusade to save the mages, so I'm perfectly fine with leaving that there.
I don't think I'll ever tire of Varric. If he shows up again, I'll welcome him back with open arms. But I'm at peace with our relationship. If we never meet him again, I'm perfectly alright with the knowledge that he's off doing his own thing in Kirkwall.
In other words, the only character where I feel that there's any unresolved business is Solas, and I'm pretty sure we're going to see him again... although probably not as an ally.

I've run out of likes, but I agree with this. I'm happy for previous companions to have cameos, or even fairly important NPC roles (I'm sure Dorian will). But I don't want someone who was a previous companion as a companion to someone else. It felt so awkward with Varric, because I got the distinct impression throughout DAI that he wanted Hawke and the Inquisitor wasn't it. He belonged in Kirkwall with that story, and didn't really have a place in DAI.
Leliana was better, since she had a clear role in the game, and wasn't with you all the time as a companion. Even so, it feels weird to work so closely with someone as a different character, especially when your character is so in the dark about them. It made me really sad when the Inquisitor says "I hear you were a bard, do you have any stories?" and she goes "Go to the library if you want stories." It's part of her character development, sure, but she never reaches a point where she's that open with you. It's weird to have someone in your inner circle and yet not feel close to them at all.
Anders was a little different, since his connection to Hawke is a lot stronger than with the Warden. I think if they did pick a previous companion, a dlc one is a better choice. But the events of DA2 (and his dynamic with Hawke), often colour my perceptions when I go back to play Awakening.
