Not even Harding? HERESY.

Harding was not a companion.

Totally agree OP. Varric is a perfect example, in DA2 we got to know him organically and he was connected to the story and to Hawke. In DA:I he's this sudden cameo with no connection and the writers rely on the fact that the player already knows and likes him so he doesn't get much development and isn't connected to the plot (unfortunately neither are most of the other companions :( )

The only companion not connected to the plot is Vivienne. She has absolutely no bearing on anything. You'd think she'd a smash at the Winter Palace... NOPE.

Even Iron Bull has more bearing, given the threat that the Qun poses.

That's my main issue with DA games in general. The events have no real impact on the people. There is a soul crushing moment and 5 minutes later you're making jokes. It's been the same in every game.

And yes, I'm aware "gallows humour" is a very common coping mechanism in real life, the soldiers in the trenches of WW1 were cracking jokes too about body parts etc, but it still feels so poorly done that it's not the same, the story and events have 0 impact on anyone.

Soul crushing is based on perspective. Added everyone has way to deal with seeing something horrible. Exmaple: Hawke can see some horrible thing in da2 but he/she can still make joke after but once it become personal like the death of their Mom than they get totally depressed.

Agreed. It always leads to retcons or side stepping something that happened in previous games to get them into the game. Not a fan of returning companions one bit.

It's just with Oghren only now.

I'm sorry, but the Leliana I knew to know and love in Origins was not the same Leliana I met in Inquisition.

Character development happens and they become different people who are interesting to interact with all over again. I'd personally love to see a Divine Victoria cameo to see how they've changed things in the South.

The Leliana I knew from DAO is a roguish woman who latched onto the Chntrys teachings and along with making up story to feel worthy along with reveling in being back in the dangerous life, don't let the cute cheery side of her fool you. She's always been ruthless. Put 10 years of being a spymaster and left hand of the Divine plus a massive crisis of fate and losing a loved one (possibly two) will change a person.

And by this I mean anyone who could join you in battle in previous games. It just seems such a waist to me to spend time and resources developing a relationship and getting to know someone we already know.

Now I would be fine with makeing former NPCs companions since we have not had a chance to get to know them as well as you do a full companion.

I disagree. One of my favourite things in Mass Effect was being able to develop Shepard's relationship with squadmates over 2 or 3 games, and simply getting to know them better. Just because we've played a game with a companion doesn't mean we've seen all they have to offer, so I like recurring companions along with new ones.

It doesn't really matter much in the end though, because I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if we got more than 1 returning companion in DA4, as that's been the trend in DA. I would also like to see other NPCs become companions.

Firstly, your gendering is wrong and don't ever say someone should be prosecuted for having an opinion. Seriously, that's messed up.

Secondly, how does everyone in the South know about Solas's plans? How do we even know that DA4's main plot is going to revolve completely around the story of Solas? All we know is it will be set in Tevinter. We don't know who the protagonist will be or what the plot will be. So I can't see why all the South suddenly need to be wandering up North. They've got problems of their own and a lot of the characters just are not relevant anymore.

Also, purchasing something does not entitle you to be completely catered for.

But I was only trying to point out that BioWare shouldnt do what you ask them for because you wont like it anyways. Which is totaly agreeing  with every thing yousay, I dont understand you xD

Anyways there is only a few returning characters and I stay strong with my opinion they are changed and interesting and if one or two of them arent what u like, great thats why there are 10 others cahracters, I also dont like them all. But this way we are all satisfied. It is a balance and I dont understand what do you moan about, it its not goingn to change because the other half of fanbase will be unhappy.

Since Tevinter is the new location and the Qunari war will be a main theme, there is a good chance we'll see Dorian, Fenris and Sten again. I wouldn't like to see them as companions either. Dorian may be the exception.

And Scout Harding is a companion in DA4. It's like obligatory since DAI ended.

I tend to dislike the idea of having the same teammate in more than 1 game, especially in consecutive games.  If Leliana and/or Morrigan had been an actual teammate in DAI, that would've at least been better because we'd gone a game in-between having them on the team, and of course Bethany would've been cool because she was only a teammate for the first part of DA2.  I definitely like having the old teammates around as NPCs, absolutely want to keep Leliana and Morrigan coming back in at least some small way each episode, same with Flemeth, and maybe even Varric.  I mostly want all new people as teammates for DA4, naturally like everyone else I want Harding on the team, and it'd be nice to have Dagna on the team too of course.  Other than them, I really can't think of any other NPCs I care to have on the team next go-round.  Mother Giselle was pretty cool but I don't think she's a fighter (unless of course, she's secretly a mage, in which case sign her up for the team!) .  Mostly, I just want fresh new, cool and interesting characters as teammates (and stop with the 2-1 male-female ratio, let's turn that the other way around next time) .

I'm not against returning characters.  Dorian for example makes a lot of sense, being a magister in the probable setting of the next game, but not as a companion.  I'm not against side characters returning as companions though, like Lace.  I'd love to see her character expanded.

I'd still like the majority of the companions to be entirely new though.

I'd love to have Dorian back as a companion for me he was one of the more amusing companions, he always had something witty and smart assy to say about everything. I have a feeling though that other magister he teamed up with will become a companion.

Rubbish!

Characters develop over time, grow, evolve. Bring back as many DAO/DA2 characters as possible, with updated visuals, new looks and ADDED story/character.

New characters are great but if you really want to get to know one, then you have to give them time to flower.

I don't want returning companions because the writers never pick the ones I like. I'm tired of Leliana and Morrigan too. Ugh.

If they want to bring Cole and Solas back as party members to fight the evanuris though I won't object. <3

Also I dont understand why Corryphus returns as an enemy since we already killed him in the DA2. I think it would be stupid if they did the same with Solas returning as an enemy ;/

No returning enemies please.

Remember at the end of Legacy right after you killed Corypheus where Janeka/Larius was acting strange, like they were posessed? It's because they were posessed...by Corypheus. DA:I explains that he can transfer his essence like the Archdemon can and can be reborn in warden (or darkspawn?) bodies.

I don't mid returning characters as temporary companions for quests. For me it worked in the Mass Effect series as you played the same protagonist but when the DA series has a new protagonist, I think every companion should be new. Also for the fact some players might not like certain characters returning especially ones that are clearly writer's pets.  <_<

You get to ask Varric 2 questions.  Tell me about red lyrium, tell me about Hawke.  My inquisitors could care less about Hawke.  Varric was poorly written fan service.  Nothing more.  I don't even use him after I no longer have to and don't want him back in DA4.

I'd rather have new companions, too (unless the returning companions were some of my all-time favorites... although there's always the risk that the character development takes a turn I don't like). I really like the whole "promoting minor characters to companions in the next installment" thing, though. I had such a crush on Cass in DA2 and I was overjoyed to have her as a companion in Inquisition.

Like time relevancy in games matter.
