For RP'ing sake.... I want to design a rogue-ish dude. I don't see him having a tree trunk neck and a buzz cut.
Please don't force all of our males to be roid ragey.
The option to adjust neck thickness is right their in te character creator, just saying.

That's great if you want to create a muscleman who has a neck like a goose.
I don't imagine we'll get much in the way of body customization.
That being said I personally thought MaleShep was in a good happy medium place for this kind of thing. I'm not about to call him 'average' like one guy in the DAI forums did a while back; he's definitely very fit. But I also wouldn't call him huge, either. Not too huge for me to consider him a "roguish" type if you wanted to play him that way. He's not Vega.
But then, I'm a professional wrestling fan, so my standards may be skewed a bit.

Yes please, we need more body types! Seriously, why did they give Joker, whose bones would probably snap if he tried heavy workouts, the same body as Shepard and other soldiers?
Personally, I'd love the option to pick a few different body types. From a more slender guy, to an in-between option (maleShep), to a true beefcake (Vega). Same for female options.

Well it is official, from what I want, from I see other people want....only way to shut down all of our demanding threads down is to give us this kind of CC...
I wouldn't mind playing a slender/lean/lanky MFer, it's what I've always RP'd that given the option.
I agree. The only male I made had such a baby-face and it looked like you could play the drums on his chest and back and he would sound like a hollow barrel.
Or at least, make the game more compatible for mods. People were able to change entire body types on TES... how come other games can't do that?
I don't think the chances of Bioware doing it are high, but it would be really cool to have a range for character body types.
For female character designs as well, I'd love the option choosing anything between sylph like, or voluptuous, or a little brawny.
Honestly it's less a concern for me in the ME setting than it is in the DA setting.
In Dragon Age, I want my warrior to look bigger and stronger than my rogue or my mage, and I wand my rogue to look more agile than my mage or my warrior. I don't want my mage to look like they could swing a massive, two handed axe around with the same ease that my warrior can.
It grates on me.
In Mass Effect, though... I don't know. Maybe it was just because Shepard was military and I expect a certain level of PT out of a marine, but it didn't bother me that an adept, engineer, or infiltrator looked just as built as a soldier.
Which isn't to say all marines have the same build; there are plenty who are more slender and compact than Shepard, but I guess I was just more forgiving in them only wanting to use the one body type.
It'd be nice to be able to modify body.
I'm curious what stick figure world people live in where Shepard is a beefcake. It's not the asking for more slender builds that got me it's the describing him like he was a muscle man.
He's fit but not big. Kind of like a guy who you know kicks ass for a living. I'd actually place him on the slender side of a special forces soldier. My sample side isn't huge but the majority of the ones I've seen are much more muscled than Shepard.
That being said as a pathfinder the options for more slender builds could work setting wise.

Athletic and toned should be the lowest it should go, being physically active makes it very hard to be a beanpole, you could argue look at long distance runners, but if i put a 60 lbs ruck on them most of them would not get very far. You are covered in armour and supplies and weapons, all this stuff means you have to have some muscle.
Agreed. Male Shepard in ME was uncomfortably skinny. It wasn't until ME3 that he finally started to look suitably fit, in my opinion. It was a relief. FemShep definitely could've used a more athletic design. Her skinny little arms didn't look like they could throw a decent punch, let alone lug around all that gear or handle some of those weapons. I used to chuckle and think to myself, "It must be that heavy muscle weave".
Yeah, I'm serious. The model in the first game was weird. It was a strangely skinny, long-necked thing that looked completely different in armor. He was okay in armor. I'm speaking specifically of his unarmored model we got to see while aboard Normandy. The "skinny" bit wasn't a general skinniness, but an issue with ill proportions. His arms looked good, but his chest and back were non-existent. It was weird. Not sure if serious.
I don't find him uncomfortably skinny. He's just far from being a beef cake or muscle head.
The cake is a lie anyway, even a beefy one.

Things improved with each game.
Shepard made sense since he was a soldier. (Vice versa, Shepard didn't make sense since SHE was a soldier.)
Maybe as the Pathfinder we'll have more of an option for what body type to have. As an elf-lover, you can guess what my preferred body type is. But generally speaking I can work with what I'm given. I played Mr. Beefcake Hawke and loved him.
