I thought Shepard (male Shep) anyway, was built as he was (happy medium) because the Alliance have a standard gene therapy programme on enlisting. Actually, if the Alliance does indeed have genetherapy (Wiki says Marsgene provides it) then it makes even more sense that body types would be similar across the board for the majority who sign up or get enlisted early?

But that said, I agree with a lot of what is said here. FemShep needs to be more muscular and MenShep needs more options, I was happy with Sheploo as Infiltrator as he was just 'about right'.

I just want an option to adjust the height of my character. I'm 6'1"/185cm, and while that is not that tall I'm usually taller than 99% of the people I see on the streets (no kidding, it seems everyone is short were I live) and I've gotten used to everyone else being small :P , so I kind of like it when my characters are tall. It's not like it bothers me if my character is the same height as everyone else, but I won't mind if they let us adjust the height. If they also trow in some decent beards and hairstyles I'll be happy.

Really, that's your takeaway?  That the people using the term 'beefcake' (a term that has existed for 40+ years in the entertainment industry to describe large muscular men) want to eat those men?  That's a first for BSN, I have to say.......

No. I don't really think that anyone is going to eat anyone, at least not in this way... I simply find the term creepy and rather disgusting.

The fact that something is over 40 years old does not make it any less creepy, usually more.

I am also amused by the double standards when it comes to the objectification of males Vs. females.

There should be double standards.

Because they're different.

That could be taken both ways.

Biological restrictions aside, inequality is not really a good thing.

You mean like the fact that the term "cheesecake" actually does exist and it's from that term that "beefcake" actually arose?  Because both terms have existed for many years and both are still used today.

Firstly, I wouldn't call it inequalities, just differences. Differences between the different genders.

But second, inequality is a wonderful thing if the alternative is mutual failing and frustration. Which is just about always is.

Oh don't get me started on that woman's pencil arms. But here I go, anyway. She didn't have *any* muscle on those little sticks. It was uncomfortable to look at. Drove me nuts. Women who lug heavy crap around will build up muscle in their arms.

***Think "Vasquez" from Aliens***

giphy.gif

Couldn't agree more, lol. I'm really hoping for body customization this time around. I would have loved for my femSheps to look like Vasquez.

Also, I didn't exactly find maleShep to be a "beefcake", but rather average built for a military type (I personally would have liked to play as a "tank of a man" like Vega through my m/Shep playthrough). Here's to hoping for Andromeda!

If we are going to be human-only, I see no reason why they couldn't at least have body options like say SWTOR does.

Each gender could have three options: Lithe, Default, Amazonian/Beefcake

YES

Never heard the term "cheesecake", I used it as an example for a term that would probably be denounced as "objectification" if it was applied

to a certain desirable female body type.

I don't see your point regarding how long it existed (I'm not even going to bother checking it myself), since when do ancient or expressions are a good thing? I mean, most terms to describe gays from 40 years ago are probably considered derogatory today.

But hey, if you like the word and it floats your boat, by all means continue to salivate over "beefcakes". Bon appetit.

I'm not offended by the word, just finding it weird and creepy. (Maybe because english is not my first language.)

You are being vague, purposefully I imagine.

In theory you would be correct to some degree, the only question remaining is what specifically are you talking about?

No one wants "mutual failing and frustration", but this is hardly a universal rule that occures in every case.

Equality for me means that if you find something that you like and are good at, you can do it regardless of gender.

This is hardly a cause for "mutual failing and frustration".

In any case, this was not what I wrote about.

I wrote about double standards on what is considered offensive (like "objectification") depending on which is the gender in question.

It's just that double standards usually don't go with moral high ground.

Well, blame my male brain then. I sexually objectify males from time to time. ;)

Does the mouth movement sync well with the dialogue lines?

I know that's been an issue in the past - whatever animation engine they used to make mouths move (like in roaming party banter) needed a lot of tweaking for close-up cutscenes.

I never noticed it being bad? I played the entire game with the really zoomed in close option, and never noticed anything bad as far as syncing. But now you're making me wonder

James was a beefcake. Shepard was... muscular? I mean he's a soldier it would be weird if he wasn't. But! I too would like to see to be more lean and wiry.

All for body more options. In fact the more customisation the better. If we do have to have a set body type though I actually quite liked Shep (both genders), something of a happy medium for me.

Yikes! I hope I didn't wreck it for you - now you might be bugged by something you didn't notice before.

Good of you to respond.

If it turns out that it doesn't sync very well, that might be a reason why Bioware didn't include that capability in the first place. People have higher standards for anything included in the game itself than for mods.

I agree that it'd be nice to have a height-slider, too. If Dragon Age: Inquisition was able to give us 4-foot-10 dwarves and 7-foot qunari, I'm hoping it's not too difficult to let us create a character that falls within normal human height ranges

I would like some degree of physical customisation, although I can understand how that would be difficult and time-consuming to implement as every clothing and armor variation would have to fit every possible combination.

But I would love to play a female character with more muscle, just as I'm sure many people would enjoy playing as a leaner male.

I'm trying to wrap my head around your complaint. Are you upset that feminists aren't in this thread objecting to the term 'beefcake' or do you think the original post was written by a feminist? If the latter is the problem, I don't think the OP is a feminist. I could be wrong though.

If your problem is that feminists aren't storming the thread to denounce the objectification of men, I'll just briefly point out that objectification of women is a much bigger problem for women than men. I don't really feel like getting into all the reasons why as this issue has been debated over and over on these forums. If you are really interested, you can look up the reasons. There's also the issue that men demanding women put their 'issues' above their own is a selfish demand on our time. I'd have no problem with what you've said if you hadn't used a valid point, beefcake being potentially problematic, to attack feminists for a double standard that doesn't exist.

And for those that may care, 'beefcake' could be seen in the same problematic light as using food to describe characteristics of minorities.

If they gave the PC Vega's body type it would probably be my first time not playing a male PC in ME.  I couldn't stand looking at Vega. He had muscles on his freaking neck. No thanks. ME3 Shep was just about right. Muscular without looking like he can't go a day without power lifting. He looked down right awesome in the Inferno armor.

Adding body types to the CC would be awesome though.

Cheesecake refers to the style of 40s/50s pin-up girl paintings and photography. So yeah, it's basically by definition objectification (whether that's actually bad is debatable, but let's not). As far as your point goes though people are labeling a male build and discussing that, which happens all the time here. People complain about female Shepard's scrawny arms and that male elves are made of twigs.

I do hope BW will pay more attention to visual consistency between outfits. Look at the picture and tell me if Shepard's arms make any sense.
