Personally,I wish more can be done for these weapons. I thought of this as some fan made mods for the game. The new lightsaber weapons simply discharge the elemental effects from the base game. The exception was the chromatic greatsword, which is kinda like the knight enchanter spirit blade. For the other swords, i wish there were actual blades popping out like the Chromatic Greatsword and the knight enchanter spirit blade.
Still, its nice to know that lightsabers for non mages have been confirmed to exist.
Anyway, what are your thoughts?
Edit: quick question, can you change the color of the chromatic Greatsword from boring white via the schematic version?

I like that it has two offensive slots.

Well they did say that we would do the equivalent of founding the jedi order, now they're finally delivering on that in a small way? lol

Where is the Chromatic Greatsword?
I can't look on game related sites (other than this one) at work....

I'm not so keen on the warrior weapons, either thematically or from a gameplay point of view. They seem a bit too magical for non-mages, and they interact poorly with the resistance system.

The Blade of Tidarion provides an interesting alternative for mages, that seems to be fairly balanced too. Honestly, I wonder if in future games such an option couldn't be made available earlier, to offer mages a similar choice to other classes

Is there just 1 Mage weapon?

Yeah... I have it, but it was pretty weak considering how unique it was... I gave it to Vive as I believe she is perfect for it.... my Infused Lyrium one is a lot better tho....
Edit: what are the other two weapons for? what class?

1) After you finish the wicked eyes and wicked hearts mission, there will be a war table mission called "investigate elven ruins" . The ruins will be accessible in the Emerald graves map all the way on the top right side of the map.
2 )Finish the quest attached to that ruin (called the knights tomb)
3) After finishing the quest, another war table mission will appear called "bestowed mourning halla"
4) you should get the chromatic sword

I know there are two one handed longswords that function like elemental sabers. The hilts however are the same but the "elemental blade" varies. Not sure of the details since i never got them myself.

Well, at the very least, the electric blades did motivate me to equip my favorite sword sulevin blade with lightning. Dosent look too bad actually, The electricity effects in general may be as close i can get to a good looking ligtsaber. (Didnt like the chromatic greatsword however)

They're not that weak if you have the full (I think) +40% attack and +20 magic on them. Plus, you can equip them with elemental runes, unlike the staves. Also, they're AOE, unlike the other mage weapons, which makes them useful for large crowds.

Blade of Tidarion is nice because it allows for a melee mage play-style. Having 36 Offense slots also means it can deal respectable damage with it's AOE auto attacks.
Chromatic Greatsword is one of, if not the best 2hand weapon in the game thanks to it's special passive ability.
Rime is the worst of them.
