She can construct red lyrium weapons that have NO ill effects on the users. How? How does this work? I suppose there's precedent with Sandal turning Varric's shard into a rune in DA2... but that was a rune. Dagna made a longsword from pure red lyrium. Makes no sense.

And while I'm on the subject, how are they going to clean up the red lyrium throughout Thedas? A shard the size of a marble is enough to drive someone mad (and levitate books and draw demons). And now there are tons upon tons all throughout the continent. It's a good story device, but my god did they make it dangerous in DA2. Perhaps too dangerous given the amount laying around in DAI. How do you even dispose of that stuff?

Dagna did not make any long swords out of Lyrium.

It is quite the paradox. Red Lyrium on its own is dangerous, capable of driving even dwarves mad and causing all kinds of freaky stuff to happen. Yet even in Dragon Age 2, where we really did see the worst stuff it could do, Sandal was able to create a very powerful rune that affected no one in a bad way.

So, this means that if Knight-Commander Meredith had bothered to find a decent runesmith to incorporate the idol into her blade then she would not have gone completely insane. They never did say who made the blade "Certainty" probably because the smith died of embarrassment at making such an ugly weapon. Dagna never made a sword out of Red Lyrium, just as leaguer said.

As for the Red Lyrium everywhere, it is pretty bad. It is partly affected by the Blight and it seems to feed on living creatures. Still, the only areas it has been found are largely under Inquisition control. And if Dagna was helping out then the Inquisition could conceivably have mounted a successful disposal effort. This helps explain why the Inquisition was able to go 2 whole years without the Exalted council popping up.

Good question. You can hear a Tranquil and a dwarf puzzling over that same quandary in Suledin Keep.

The Red Lyrium Reapers Weapon Pack DLC contains a longsword, dagger, and staff made from red lyrium. The weapon descriptions say they were made by Dagna.

Plot armor is why. It doesn't make any sense, but neither does the lack of day-night cycles. Just roll with it.

Oh, that's what all the cheese is for! Only cheese can save Thedas from red lyrium. Or maybe it's shard hunting and bear extinction.

After you take the fortress in Emprise Du Lyon, you can hear two NPC's in the background talking about how they can't get all of the tiny shards of red lyrium outof the ground and it'll just go on infecting worms and stuff and spreading.

She's just that good a smith.
