In DAO i pretty much loved all the characters.

DA 2 had not all but fenris, merril or isabela were very good.

DAI from my party characters i liked only dorian, others were meh.

I liked the advisors even cullen despite not liking him in previous dragon age games.

So can we have more companions in dai.

Shale that was added in dlc, was one of the best companions, in the whole game.

Mass Effect 3 also have the same problem. ME II have tons of new characters that were interesting Samara, Legion, Grunt, Jack and the most badass character of in all ME universe ( except Shepard of course ) Zaeed Massani.

Vega very cool beginning and he didn't say a nearly anything then.

Ashley, cool she is back and then i cannot use her because she is in  a freaking hospital.

EDI, i have enough of her voice after playing ME II and watching battlestar galactica.

I do not like the idea of reusing old characters as party characters. I liked when they return as quest helper/changers like jack or zaeed. Reusing them in kinda lame in my opinion.

Garius in all 3 games, he is very cool character but i would like to have someone new.

Tali also in all 3 games, no idea why frankly.

Javik is the one character i liked and he is a dlc party member WTF.

So enough of rambling.

Can we have more interesting, interesting characters ?

Thanks,

Sew

I think they endeavour to make all their characters interesting.

There's no way to make a character universally liked, however. I mean, you don't like Tali, but I think she's pretty swell.

The number of companions we've had in all three DA games has been more or less the same every time. Origins had 9/10, DA2 had 8, DAI had 9. The issue of you not liking every companion we're given in this or that game is a different problem, and not one BioWare can really fix for you - they write a lot of different characters to hit different strokes with each one, and sometimes you'll like them and sometimes you won't. Just putting more followers into the game doesn't guarantee you'll like them.

I do agree about returning companions, though. It didn't work with Oghren, it didn't work with Varric, it only worked with Isabela/Merrill/Anders because they were such minor/underdeveloped characters before... I'd rather we had all new companions every time than wasting a companion slot with returning major characters who already had their story told and have nowhere narratively interesting to go. Promoting a minor character like Harding to companion would be great, repeating Dorian (or any big profile follower) as companion would be overkill again.

I've liked all the companions in every game, so far. To different extents, sure, but there's nobody I dislike.

So I think it's less about needing more companions and more about folks having different tastes.

I do not know if i should agree with you on that or not. You make some good points.

But DAI is the first game, i didn't like most party roster aka do not like the game since game plays like mmo and if i wanted to play an mmo, i would play one and not a single player game.

DA 2 enemies AI sucked and was very generic but overall characters were good so overall i like the game. Despite that anders, what a relief when i could finally kill him. Story telling in DA 2 unique, combat was action packed better then dai.

Where was i, ah here.

BG world was too interesting to bother myself about the companions, BG 2 companions were much better.

DAO best set of companion to this day, i like all of them. Jade empire like all of them. Mass effect and Mass effect 2 like 90% of them.

You see my point, DAI is the first bioware game, i really do not like my companions and conversations with companions is what makes a good bioware game.

I do see your point, but the thing is, liking companions is always subjective, and it's not really BioWare's fault that you didn't click with this team, this time. You say DAO had the best set of companions to this day - I say not really, I didn't love half the companions in DAO that much. For me, the strongest DA companion ensemble so far was DA2. A third person may come into the thread and say, no, DAI had their favorite set of companions. See, we all have different tastes in what we like or expect out of our companions in each game, and none of us is more right than the other, we just... have different tastes. There's no real "best" group of companions, I believe, only the group you liked the most, the one I liked better, the one this other player prefers, etc.

My point is more that there's no objective way that BioWare can fix the fact that you didn't like the companions in this game. Raising the number of NPCs we get doesn't really help - they could put put like 30 followers to choose from into one game, and you might still end up not liking many of them. ME2 gave us a ton of followers, and I only really liked a handful of them. It happens, there will be games where you'll love every companion and games where you'll like only a few. There's no pleasing everyone. The only thing BioWare can do is keep writing various different and interesting characters, and the onus of whether we'll  like them or not is on what each of us likes to see in a companion, not in the number of followers we have.

This post said it best, I think:

it's less about needing more companions and more about folks having different tastes.

They can't please everyone you know. You could find the silver lining and think that there were at least a few companions that you did like.

I'm in that third group. I didn't care much for the companions in DA:O besides just.."yeah, they're ok". Didn't care much for the companions from DA2 AT ALL besides Varric and Aveline. DA:I had a large group of companions and I loved them all. Even Solas who I hate. Love to hate.

It is all subjective.

I don't think Inquisition's characters were lacking in diversity, I think I just hated a lot more of them then I did in the other games. DA2 may have had a weak story, but the characters were fantastic. Inquisition had many different folks, but Dorian was a walking cliche, Sera was annoying, Vivienne grated on me the more I kept her in the party, Blackwall was forgettable, and Iron Bull's talking dialogue really got on my nerves at times. In Origins, the only characters I disliked were Shale and Sten.

BioWARE should really focus on bringing rich and diverse characters, rather then forcing morality plays, like they did with Dorian and Krem.

I don't think it is possible to like all the characters you are presented with; otherwise that would make them too bland.   I never really appreciated Oghren and so was rather disappointed when he was forced on me in Awakening.   It wasn't that I actively disliked him; just didn't warm to the stereotypical drunken, vulgar dwarf.   Yet other people loved him and that is fine because real life is like that.   I think the worst thing you can say about a character is that they provoke no reaction at all.

It probably helps me that I really do role play my characters and method act to get me into their character.   Origins was great for this because they already gave you a background that you could immerse yourself in before setting off on your adventures.   I played my Dalish Warden differently from my mage Circle Warden and then my City elf Warden, yet they were all elves, and responded to other characters in varying ways.   I initially meant to make my city elf very antagonistic towards humans but in the end even she couldn't find it in herself to be mean to Alistair because it felt like kicking a puppy.    Then I played a human noble and suddenly I found myself adopting a whole different approach, particularly where Loghain was concerned.

Hawke was somewhat limiting because I found there were only so many variations I could make to his/her character.   However, I was still able to react differently to the companions.   First Hawke didn't really connect with Isabella, so she ran off with the tome and left us to the consequences.   Next Hawke got on a lot better, so she came back.   Personally I tired a bit of her constant sexual innuendo but I could live with it.

DAI has been pretty much the same as Origins.    First run my female elf mage couldn't stand Vivienne and barely tolerated Sera.    However, I got into a different zone with my subsequent PCs and as a result got on with them much better and personally started to like them as well.

I do agree about Varric being a bit redundant though.    I liked him in DA2 but preferred using Sera as my ranged expert when I wasn't one myself.    I already knew his character and he really did seem to be there purely to introduce new people to the game and DA2 characters, although we did finally get to meet Bianca.    Nevertheless I wouldn't object to say Dorian being brought back in DA4 simply because it is likely going to be set in Tevinter.   Thus I would imagine he could play a much more significant role simply because it is his home patch, whilst at the same time providing the link to DAI.    However, I wouldn't necessarily want him as a companion, more an advisor/mentor, leaving all the companion slots open to explore totally new characters.
