Bioware, you made this fantastic world with an interesting setting, a diverse set of cultures and a colorful array of people. So why am I always some noble punk who grew up near ferelden if I'm a human?

Stop with the ferelden noble boner. I want to be something else.

I challenge you in the next game to provide us with an interesting human choice rather than a bland tasteless noble. Something like an Avaar warrior, a former Tevinter slave or a street urchin from Antiva.

Hawke wasn't a noble, he became a noble, but he was born a peasant. DAO you were the next best thing to royalty (1 of only 2 families with the title Teryn), DAI you actually grew up in the Freemarches.

I agree though that there should be an option to be a low caste human. I would absolutely love if they brought back Origin Stories, far and away the greatest innovation for rpgs in a long time, I've been sad they abandoned them ever since.

Wasn't your mom heir to some noble crap in the kirkwall, which is why you went back there after the blight? And then you figured out Gamlen gambled away your ancestral home and it was so hearbreaking and bla bla bla. Still noble blood.

Also in pretty much all cases you grew up near ferelden or directly next to it. Ostwick is a stone's throw from Highever. That's why I said "grew up near ferelden"

You correct about Mama Hawke.

But in my mind being a noble is being raised as a noble, to me blood means nothing (I personally find it rediculous Engalnd still has a Monarchy at all, plus their 'House of Nobles' is ridiculous). But since Mama Hawke was disowned when she ran away technically neither her nor her children are nobles until you file that petition with the Viscount.

I do agree that we should move away from the south though, 3 games down there already, I want to see some Nevarra, Rivain, or Seheron.

Human is the only race that can be a high-and-mighty fancy noble unless the game is set in Orzammar. If they were going to have a human peasant/slave/street urchin as a choice instead, why have that as a human at all? An elf would be better for that role.

I hate playing as elves. 1. Character model. 2. General cultural disposition. There is this racial undertone that brings up uncomfortable memories for me.

Just because the game takes place in human society doesn't mean we always have to inhabit some lofty higher echelon of it when we play humans. Humans are so much more than a ferelden/free marches noble bloodline we've seen time and time again.

The cultural disposition of humans in Thedas is to be the top of the heap, the dominant species, the privileged, or even the oppressors, that's something you can only play in DA as a human unless the game is set in Orzammar and you play as a dwarf noble. Taking away the human noble would mean that no one would get to play that kind of character. I do think any future human origins should be from a different country though, maybe Antiva or Nevarra.

I hate playing as humans, but you can only be a noble if you're a human so it gives me an incentive to play them occasionally.

What is the problem of being an human noble?

How a poor inquisitor was in the council?

If I'm playin' master race human I don't want to resemble an elf in any way, shape or form. So no poor humans.

That's impossible for any tevinter human background. It's too interesting not to do for the location. Imagine a place where a mage is a noble or the script being flipped were instead being born with out magic get you looked down as being a noble.

please continue doing noble human. It is the only background that has nobility (beyond the dwarf, who personally am not a big fan).

As for the fact that all are of areas close to fareldan is probably because of the accents.

being from fareldan, or approximate area, means using british and American accent (something non-human races use).

This, pretty much. The whole point is that, as a human, you are never truly at the bottom of the totem pole. You're a human living in poverty, struggling to find work and feed your family? Any elf or casteless dwarf in those same circumstances has it worse. People dig the idea of playing the underdog, but they don't want to give up playing the "best" race in order to do it. Loool

I do think certain non-noble human backgrounds would be very interesting, however. I love the Avvar. If we could be one of those I might actually bother playing a human for once.

Interesting how everyone is running around saying either: 'Take away the human noble, give me a commer!' or 'Forget the commoner, I want a noble!'. DAO offered both for Dwarves and (in some sense considering the mage origin) humans. What I want more than any other feature is the playable origin stories (or at the very least selectable origins for each race with some noticeable differences for each).

Give me both noble and common human!

Replace "best" with "just so happens to be my personal favorite and easiest for me to feel comfortable stepping into the shoes of" and you are not wrong in my case, yes.

Agreed, very much agreed.  Humans are boring to play for me in RPG's already, constantly making them nobles is even more so.  Only way your gonna get me to play a human is to make it interesting.

We are apparently going to Tevinter next the only truely interesting people there are the nobility... who are also all mages, many of which are also blood mages.

Give me an Avvar character over a noble human one any day of the week and I might actually play a human in the next game.  There are other options for human besides noble and commoner.  I also liked the idea of a Tevinter slave.  Or maybe a former Crow from Antiva.

We haven't been to Tevinter yet, so our perspectives on which sorts of Tevinters are interesting are as skewed as any any Southerner's. We're all Southerner's, seeing things through tinted glasses. I am confident the North has interesting people in every walk of life and I am damn near positive the writers will do their damnedest to ensure we see that.

Tell that my all human canon playthrough. No really, tell Queen Couland she's boring. She's a Consort, yes, but it's very fun double-playing Anora and preventing her from touching the throne. And playing as a Cousland in awakening is epic! Trevelyan isn't as fun as Cousland, but it's still fun though

Well he did put 'They are boring FOR ME..' and 'Only way your gonna get ME to play...' so I'd say his opinions pretty valid, he isn't saying humans are boring, he is saying humans are boring to him.

Personally my first runs are usually as a human, but they I do a bunch of every different kind later.

Yeah. I know. But I was deeply sasifted by double-crossing Anora and then marrying Alistair, taking her throne form her in a glorious blaze... And plus the Cousland PC has pretty epic parents. I mean, Eleanor was a privateteer! Dats amazing, don't you think?
