Care to elaborate?  Do you mean the new toggles don't function well but the old upgrades work as well as they did before?  Or are you referring to the increased number of spirit resistant enemies?

I would think the alternate "heal" toggle for WoH is great in any setting.

Ah sorry, i meant templar doesn't hold well in terms of damage. Infact with the new toggles i would say if anyone wants to do damage as a warrior then it has to be reaver as the new toggles really solved a lot of the issues. Pair it with the new and improved battlemaster and it is amazing.

Btw a lot of new elites with the trials have high spirit resistance, i ran into a despair demon escaping haven and the mark of rift didnt even dent it due to its insane spirit resistance. The mark ticked for 85 damage when it crit.

Actually I would say due to the new Battlemaster tree, until they fix combat roll, Reaver took an indirect nerf. Anytime you can be rolling, you should be rolling, because of the insane modifier attached to it. Indirectly that's affected the Reaver's damage output relative to other classes, who can now do comparable damage rolling around and bring more to the table in utility and aoe.

I would roll (heh) champion and templar over Reaver any day of the week now. TTD and Wrathpurge might be niches, but Dragon Rage has been usurped by combat roll.

If you abuse the roll then yes, but then the class does not matter at all with the roll.

Abuse?

Idk man. That's an artificial restriction. Are you abusing Dragon Rage when you use it over and over? Same thing. It's no more abuse than using any other good ability on cooldown.

For templars there are situations where wrath purging is preferable to combat rolling. As good as the ability now is, it doesn't really compare to hitting every non elite for their entire health bar, causing them to explode for a % of that killing blow and killing everything else.

Largely the same for champions, because of TTD.

It's just Reaver that took a nerf due to the fact that they were largely focused around single target dps. The other classes got comparable, non specialization restricted tools for doing constant physical damage.

Never did I stop and consider using Mighty Offence Tonic during my Templar Run. That is incredibly great damage with Wrath+Spell.

Are you guys saying I should skip 2H tree except the two must passives?

I'd say there's 4 must have passives in that tree, but yeah -- the abilities are pretty garbo comparied to others.

I'm going to max out Templar Spec and then some Battlemaster for horn if valor. Next will be war cry/taunt follow by unlocking some 2h passives and war horn. How does this sound?

I'm still using Pommel Strike (for quick Stun, then combo) and Whirlwind, for CC and detonator. Whirlwind/Vortex is kind of like a mobile, short or no cooldown Pull of the Abyss.

While I'm not 100% sure this happened, I think Vortex pulled enemies out of an active Pull of the Abyss, which would be bad.

I haven't tried Grappling Chain/Chains for Days yet. It would be interesting to measure which has precedence over which.

Still use Mighty Blow. with the new toggle it is amazing in control. and also since you need Shield Breaker you have to put one point on it anyway.

Flow, Shield, and Clear a Path

Clear a path is useless as well.

Except for Focus. Rally is better than Counterstrike or Rampage, for the rest of the party. But everyone drops focus or takes MotR anyway, so nevermind.

The topic is about a Templar and ONLY a Templar. Clearly, I was referring to whether I should go the SnS route, or a 2H build that stacks Attack over crit.

What does Champion have to do with whether the OP should Weapon and Shield or Two-Handed?

BD gives constructive feedback at times; however he also has a tendency to post troll comments. Anyways, I'm still wondering how a 2H Templar plays. Do I make a build around crits? Stack attack? What seems to be the most viable build?

I think you should build your party around your main character and what you want that character to do. As you're going to be controlling that character most of the time, you will probably want characters that compliment your PC.

But I think 2h Templar works great in a party.

I would go Solas - Sera/Cole - Blackwall - PC. Solas to group enemies together with Pull of the Abyss, which you can then Wrathpurge. Sera / Cole to help you on bosses. Blackwall to tank and for To The Death on bosses. I would go dagger on your rogue (upgraded Toxic Cloud for elusivity), Ice and Fire on Solas, and super Tank on blackwall.

I would go attack until you get decent crit materials, then go crit and upgrade mighty offense.

He specifically asked if 2h Templar crit was best. I apologize for reading his question and answering what I felt was best for a party.  But I can guarantee I'm done here. Honest constructive responses was not welcome.  Nor do I appreciate the OP resorting to calling me a troll.

Why not say, "Is crit best for a Templar?"  Or "should I go 2H crit to help a party?"  Why even bring up the topic of templar.  I never would have brought up champ except it was the OP himself who decided to bring up whether a "2h crit templar" was best for a party.  Which I do not think it is.

How a Templar plays:  Charging Bull, Wrath of Heaven, Spell Purge, repeat

That's 90% of the 2H Templar.  You can build around crit or blessed blades.  Sort of depends on what you want to do to lower your cooldowns.  Lots of options.  No "best" viable build, that I'm aware of, due to the massive changes from trespasser toggles.  I recommend you try one out and give us your own build.
